This song has truly blessed me. I lost my wonderful father June 4th, 1990. It's hard to believe 32 years have so quickly slipped by. I have needed him in those years because of difficult trials. I sometimes go to his graveside and speak as if he can hear me. It's there I tell him my sorrows. However, I am thankful for Jesus Christ, my good Shepherd, who will lead me the rest of my journey. Until we meet again dad, on that glorious shore, I love you.

I created a video of my father's life with this song as background and showed it at his memorial. Not a dry eye in the room. This song is priceless. And I miss him... my old man.

I had the Irish Tenors recording of this played at my dad's Wake Service just before the Rosary. There wasn't a dry eye at the service. I later played it for my oldest Step-son on the 1st Father's Day after I married his mother and Toasted both of our Dads. What a gr8 bonding for us.

To all "The Old Men" who were always there for us when we were growing up and needed the guidance of one who loved us enough to say "NO" when it was needed and to encourage us to strive further when our youth and inexperience made us want to give up. THANK YOU for being there for us, You are sadly missed and irreplaceable.

My Da went into hospital for what i think is the end. I live 3000 miles away and can't get into the hospital anyway because of Covid. Him and I were always extremely close and I will cherish the memories and the kindness and support he showed me when he passes. I hope to get home before the end just to say goodbye one last time.

For all here who didn't have their father present as they grew up. It is and was not easy. I share peace with you all. Have solace and thanks for precisely knowing why you came to this world. As this is clear. You are here to be pure love. You know the pain of absense and you are here to show everyone in your life what it means to love and be loved. The highest honour in this world. It is in your power to now chose if you will carry out this ask of you in this lifetime. Many who come to this realm find it hard to understand their purpose and feel lost. You all do not have this challenge. I send sincerest blessings to you all.

Just lost my father. My dad was more than a father. He was my best friend. This song reaches my soul. As a fellow Scotsman, John McDermott sings this great song with true compassion. I miss my dad but am thankful for his love and giving spirit. Thanks for being a dad who "made me what I am".

I listen to this song in memory of my beloved father,John Fitzsimmons, who entered into eternal rest four years ago. He never gave up on me, even in the years when I strayed from all he taught me. I miss our conversations, and his calming presence in these troubled days. I love you, Dad,and God willing I will see you again for all eternity one day.

One of my favorite songs of all time. Reminds me so much of my Dad. If you watch McDermott he must be thinking of his "old Man' too. As he says..."I never will forget him, for he made me what I am". He tears up in this one. He also carrys a cain which I bet is his Dad's. He kisses a ring which I bet is his Dad's too. You can see the emotion from him I feel when I watch him. I miss you Dad...& mother.

Life is so short, Not only should we reach out to our father's but to our mother's, As we live we take things for granted, we become blasé, but then we are jolted when our father or mother are gone. There is no second chances to say what we should, whilst we can. "Yes, I miss my old man and my dear mother.

The tears have all been shed now We've said our last goodbyes His souls been blessed He's laid to rest Andit's now i feel alone He was moer than just a father A teacher my best friend He can still be heard In the tunes we shared When we play them on our own I never will forget him For he made me 'what i am' Though he may be gone Memories linger on And i miss him, the old man As a boy he'd take me walking By mountain field and stream And he showed me things Not known to kings And secret between him and me Like the colours of the pheasant As he rises in the dawn And how to fish and make a wish Beside the holly tree I thought he'd live forever He seemed so big and strong But the minutes fly And the years roll by For a father and a son And suddenly when it happened There was so much left unsaid No second chance To tell him thanks For everything he's done

The song always reminded me, of my Grandfather. He has been gone for so long now... But his memory always endures. Pictures, family albums... & The gifts he left me.... The places he once took me. For example.. On A Trip To see & show me where he once lived, & was Born. Out in the Middle Of Nowhere... Only building foundations were left & there were wild animals. It was less then a ghost town at that point. Even back then. ~RIP Walter Whalen~ *The rest of the grave stones writing is worn off from time* ... I loved you, pop. :`) I always did. I was one of the Paul Bearers at his funeral & read out, a speech dedicated to honor his passing. I wrote it myself. So long ago. Its True. Black & White TV was a new innovation for him. he never understood televisions, im not sure what he would of thought of the internet. He likely would of just went back to work out at sea. Times were very different. This was a man who grew up watching and chasing wild sheep... it is beyond surreal, yet facts. Just, A very ,very long time ago. He somehow survived growing up in a rural area of N.L, A place so isolated, & lacking in medical care... it killed his own sister. Tuberculosis did. After that, his dad *My Great Grandfather*.,.died, A week later, with a hammer in his hand. Putting up a door frame, from rage. and breaking it... Heart-attack. Yet, he & his his sons knew success. But not one branch of descendants; there after.. Weird Double Edged Family Curses.. are real in some generations. ~The end. P.S ~ & I Still miss him, to this very day. it gets somewhat easier with alot of time. eventually. He never trusted schools, yet he learned how to make a living by himself. Other opportunities existed here, back then. Yet he watched his own dad die in front of him & he was as hard as frozen nails. except with me. I remember. He fished on old cold, oceans. he hated land. Thus, he took to sea, from a very young age.

It is said that we leave a piece of ourselves with everyone we've met, The part of me that's with him is happy knowing he's not in pain anymore. The part of me that's still here will miss him until that day when we meet again, and he smirks and gives me a hug, and everything's okay again. Until then I'll miss him whenever something reminds me of him.. Rest In Peace George David Carter. 8/8/1954 - 6/21/2019
