You're correct! Many are not aware of this practice. They have to keep you going back.

Perhaps the ones ordering them don't understand safe caffeine consumption or even would think that the lemonade they ordered has any or that much caffeine

That’s what I used to think until I realized drinks with 200mg+ caffeine should not be on the market. The levels of caffeine in are excessive. This can happen to anyone. Luckily for me, my medications prohibit me from drinking any caffeine, so I would never buy anything like this.

Sorry to hear that. They usually say people with heart issues shouldn’t drink them. That said, you worded it like the energy drinks caused the pre-existing issue when they did not. While we might look for something else to blame, I don’t think that’s helpful.

No this is different. If should be illegal to be able to serve a seemingly innocent drink like that without a warning. The large have an equivalent of roughly 4 cups of coffee. That’s bad for anyone. Now imagine someone with a heart condition

It's lemonade. You don't expect a lemonade to have really any caffeine in it. To someone with a mental disability they make just see a lemonade and order one or two or more. Or if you're there and you ask "hey can I get a lemonade" and they give you one of those and you have a reaction. That's on them. All you wanted was a lemonade

Unless you live in Australia where they routinely refer to Sprite, 7-Up, etc as “lemonade,” you don’t expect lemonade to be carbonated either. No one thinks they are getting real lemonade from the carbonated soda fountain loaded with bags of flavored syrup. The imagined exception of someone with a mental disability ignores the reality that they can’t be held responsible for that person’s mental disability any more than they could be held responsible for their pre-existing medical condition. That person needs a responsible caretaker. It makes my point. The idea that someone asked for a lemonade is not only made up, it’s outrageously wrong if this was a self-serve fountain anyway like it was the first time. You get zero points for that one. It even presumes that the clerk wouldn’t respond correctly with “we don’t have lemonade but we do have Charged Lemonade. Would you like that instead?” Heck, since we’re both making stuff up at this point the clerk may even advise the person ordering that it is high in caffeine. If they ever do move it behind the counter that may be precisely why so training would go hand in hand with that. Why do we need to imagine some horrible scenario where they are at fault when you have zero reason to think that? A lot of people with this condition were going to die young regardless of whether it happened here or elsewhere. Remember the excited kid who dropped dead when he won a Nintendo Wii at some sporting event over 15 years ago? IIRC, he was running down the steps to claim his prize when his heart just stopped. This is the kind of condition the people dying of caffeinated drinks have. It’s tragic, but hardly something we can blame on Panera. I understand that grieving loved ones would like to have someone to blame but that doesn’t mean we can punish the innocent. It’s just the truth: Panera isn’t responsible.
