Of all the How to Deadlift videos this is the one that has helped me the most. Yesterday was the first time I really felt a correct deadlift form. The cues that helped me achieve that were shins perpendicular (I always sort of skwaated the weight up because I thought I had long legs and short torso). And also pulling the slack off using the lats instead of forcing a back angle. Loving this channel, it'd be great if you guys brought Alan Thrall from Untamed Strength!

Ok. So one is I noticed is when George leeman came in the supertraining gym and was teaching his perspective on deadlift, I clearly remmeber that he said Mike to sit back and then start the movement. Therefore what I think is do what works best for you and learn how your leverages works. (Y)

are you supposed to keep your scapula retracted on the deadlift?
@perman07
@perman07 8 жыл бұрын
+Chips I'd say there's something between retraction and letting your shoulders slump. I personally try to get my hands as low as possible before I get down and grab the bar. That seems to get your shoulders into sort of a pocket where they don't slouch too much.
@perman07
@perman07 8 жыл бұрын
***** I agree with everything you wrote and I'm not sure why you wrote it to me (had nothing to do with the specifics of my post). Letting your shoulders slump completely forward affects your upper back posture and may lead to upper back rounding. Now some people seek that cause it works for them, but I don't think it should be universal advice. All I was saying was, there's a compromise between total scapular retraction and shoulder slump. If you stand up straight with your hands hanging down as far as you can, that's a strong natural isometric position, only thing that's required for the deadlift from there is moving your hips and knees rotating your arms upwards. But whatever, people can do what they want, this is a minor technical issue. The distance you get closer to the bar by letting your shoulders slump completely is not much. I personally feel I round too much by not setting my shoulders along the sides.
