You are at 10,000 because your videos are interesting and vary between the layout and engine repairs. Also, you have an honesty about mistakes we all can learn from. I really like what you are doing with the scenery too. Keep it up 😊

Glad Mrs OOBill is still on the mend, and mega congratulations on 10k subscribers: quality will out! Loved "party night" at TGLs... Some suggestions for the future, if I may... 1) Narrated running sessions, explaining the background of the consists you choose to run, how you acquired them, what (if any) work you've done on them, and what they mean to you. And more "on board" footage please! 2) Continuation of repair requests. Perhaps to include some "deep dives" into specific topics. 3) "Behind the scenes". How you plan & film your videos. 4) "Top Tens" (of anything) are always a crowd pleaser. 5) Update on the tools and substances you use to maintain & repair locos and rolling stock. Finally, how about "crowdfunding" an ATP scrapping video?? But whatever you do, I'll keep watching.

I think you might need to model a couple of Travelodges to accommodate all your subscribers….The Gnomes Legs won’t cope!! Hats off to your perseverance Bill.

Oh bill what is it with our wives ? Since mine turned 40 she's went down hill ,carpal tunnel both wrists had both operated on together ,the laughs we had trying to dress her well, it's ok taking the stuff off you know what I mean then she had another op a few years later for her gall bladder ,then she fell ill and got sepsis,touch and go for a while thank goodness she came trough that ,but she's off to hospital again in march for a new knee op ,so I do feel for you bill and hope your maid gets fully better very soon. By the way your new layout is coming on a treat and I love your repair vids to ,keep safe guys ....

Hello Bill, wonderful news about your wife, pass on my regards. As to the layout its been an absolute joy following the creation of layout number two. It was so sad to see the old layout being dismantled, it was part of what made the channel good. Seeing this creation come to life has been an educational masterclass. Your skills at repairing and servicing models are second to none as usual. Keep up the good work. 10k subscribers? You deserve a whole lot more. I've been with you from almost the beginning. it's just such a brilliant channel. Thank you. 🎉👍👍👍

The layout is going very well. I love it! How many modellers have said to themselves about their most troublesome model "I wish Id walked away and never bought it"!

It's very photogenic. And the long straight provides some excellent photo ops.

And I thought that it was only my old APT that caused problems! Thanks for the video, it has inspired me to finish my old APT project. I bought a new version (2) APT power car, with the magnetic couplings, which has solved all the power issues. I have also re-wheeled (Peter's Spares) all the bogies and added bearings to all the coaches. Silicon wire picks up power through the front bogie to light all the coaches daisy-chained together. I have added an open second (two front coaches, cut and suck) and a buffet coach (two intermediate coaches, cut and suck with the internal buffet section from a Hornby short mk3). It runs really well, and as a seven set (2 front - Power - 4 back), and I just love the wiggle through my Peco Streamline points ! Dave

Glad to here your wife on well on the mends. My wife just recovered completely from 3 broken ribs & a punctured lung. Sounds like the Gnomes Legs is a good place to hang around. It must of been rocking last month on Robby Burns night. Bill from California

Great progress on the layout Bill. It’s really coming along. Those old APTs… boy oh boy. I have one - the motor is a-ok and everything function a just great til you couple it together and then the wheels on the power car seem to lift and the thing just sits there with its wheels spinning not going anywhere. Mine sits in a cat food box, forlornly watching the new version do circuits.

Ideal scoosh? As little as you can get away with! (Well, that's my approach because it's too expensive to be slapdash!)
@chriswade74704 ай бұрын
The APT, try putting weights in each of the leading driving cars. As far as the interior lighting flickering when they run on track power, that’s something difficult to deal with on DC operation. You could no doubt fit capacitors to help with this. Ideally you connect the lighting circuits in each car to each other so the lights are fed from multiple pickups
@daviddorrell83904 ай бұрын
I thought that too. They are very light. I've had several sets in various states of disrepair in storage for 20 years. The work in these videos will be most helpful in sorting out mine in due course.

With looking after your wife , utube posts , repairing requests and the dogs , it's coming along nicely .

you have the patience of a saint with these models. the layout looks extraordinary. for a cd motor, might i suggest ‘strathpeffer junction’s’ cd motor. it’s very fast, but with some capacitors and whatnot it’ll run fine. bon chance, bill.

I felt a tinge of saddness when you broke up the old layout but your new endeavours have raised the bar, ( no pun intended on the Gnomes Legs).

The Gnomes Legs is a rockin! Well done, this channel should have hit 10K long ago. Excellent work as always!!

As someone who has tried to obtain an APT for a modest price, on multiple occasions, the thought of you giving up on the APT (like that) fills me with horror. Sounds like many others have had issues with the original Hornby APT, so this would seem a ripe time for a dedicated video showing how to sort it once and for all! (Also, you as THE person who fixes model trains have a reputation to maintain!)

Hi, I really liked the old layout but starting a new one was really worth it! Great job. Sometimes a layout's time has come. I had two previous layouts with my dad; a starter layout was expanded and eventually replaced by a more ambitious one. My parents then moved house 20 years ago and we started an entirely new layout which was properly planned from day 1. It's now a wonderful setup which we enjoy improving and running trains on whenever I visit. My loco maintenance skills picked up massively after I discovered your channel, so many thanks for all the guidance! Keep up the good work. 😊

Congrats on reaching 10k subs. When's the big giveaway happening? 🤣 The layout is looking really good now. Glad Mrs Bill is on the mend. I'll have to check out how you made the lift-out section as I'm probably going to have to do something similar for my little layout. That APT seems like an absolute lemon. Don't let it beat you mate, make it work better than new. After all, that's kind of your thing.

Another great video and glad to hear your wife is getting better. Putting the camera on the train really shows the layout in a different perspective and highlights how authentic the scenery is from that angle. Thought for a future video...how about including something on lighting carriages...what has worked for you in the past and any recommendations? Also how you reach those engines and carriages on the shelf above the layout ☺ Hope to see you on Saturday at the SEC.

The old Hornby APT is a bit of an awkward design: its armature is unique! If it’s burns out or otherwise expires… no spares. A CD motor is what I’d wholeheartedly recommend if the armature isn’t doing so well.

The viaduct looks great on the layout. I may have told you I have two APT’s and have experienced similar problems as you describe. I might file away sone of the plastic as you did in an effort to allow the body to rotate as you have done. Also like your idea of the guitar string. Am in California at the moment having withdrawal symptoms but trying to make videos of the Amtrack Surfliner. It has been stopped as a result of landslides of the cliff faces v following heavy rains from El Ninno. Hoping to get to next station south of here to take the ride down to San Diego. Keep watching Cheers

@oobill4 ай бұрын
Ebay. Just search for Hornby APT pantograph
@PeterJewell24 ай бұрын
But be prepared for a shock. The pantograph was packed separately in the train set box, and so is easily lost, and they are also prone to breaking. Fully working original units command a premium, as do APTs that come with a pan!
