I don't know man, the most recent hatred was just straight up ill-informed and inaccurate. I have evidence of their correspondence and it was petty and vitriolic. Claiming I staged the whole video series which is quite pathetic. I don't have time to do that shit, and frankly, why would I care? I don't know any parties involved and have no incentive to do anything dishonest. These people are religious brand-zealots and I don't think I'll ever understand the messed up psychology behind such a phenomenon. I threw the gauntlet down to one local nutcase who claimed I faked it all or was dishonest. I asked him to bring in his amp and I'll have a look and publicly acknowledge if the sample I had was different and in what ways. Then he resorted to ad-hominem attacks and convoluted justification for what I documented. Such people are a waste of breath, mate. Let them waste their money and let us laugh at them ad-infinitum.

Thunderbird Signs is my chassis shop. It's a sign shop so if they can make metal boxes in the shapes of every letter in the alphabet all the numbers from 0 to 9, signs, symbols and punctuation, they can make me a chassis in almost any shape or dimension too.

Holy Actual, That is a standard deluxe size PT, but it uses low grade core steel, like M400. To get a decent deluxe PT with that stack size on 50Hz supply it has to be M6 steel. So either the wire on that is really thin to run the lams properly and way too thin for 2 6L6's or they are running the lams so hard that its close to saturating and would cause failure. idiotic.

This is sad. The 5E3 circuit is a perfect creation from the genius minds of Leo and Company. Sure, there are a few things that can be done to bring it into the modern world. Better grounding. That's about it. Maybe a NFB switch. More than those, and the tone of the original creation suffers. Here's what is perplexing to me: this Lazy J guy knows something about amp circuits. He knows about reverb and tremolo circuits -- not easy stuff. Why would he throw it all into a box-too-small with a cheap chassis and obviously inadequate power tranny? What makes it worse: the guy has the knowledge and skills to do it right, but instead turns out this POS. I love the Tweed Deluxe, and have built dozens. I consider this Lazy J amp a personal affront -- me and Leo, standing shoulder to shoulder and looking pissed off. If a customer wants reverb and trem, build a different amp or build a stand-alone reverb/trem unit (like Leo already did!). Plenty of modern builders integrate tweed and brown-panel principles with reverb and tremolo, and do it successfully with designs based on good craftsmanship that last the test of time, respecting Leo's vision and bringing it into the modern world. Look at the Milkman Creamer for one example. Cathode bias 6v6 push-pull, reverb, and tremolo. It can be ordered with VVR. A nice compact combo amp with great styling and a maintainable circuit, for less than half the money of this thing. There are others. Ok I'm done venting now. Thanks Brad for the exposé. This vid made me subscribe.

I bet those cows that this whole amp is a TAD 5E3 kit with miscellaneous TAD ala cart parts to fill in the rest of the heap. Disgraceful and outright fraudulent if true. Moooooo
@BradsGuitarGarage
@BradsGuitarGarage 8 ай бұрын
It does look like a TAD chassis, right down to the laser cut details in the internal corners. I use the CE Distribution ones as they have a standby switch instead of ground. And the writing on the control panel is laser-etched so it doesn't wear off like the silk-screened TAD ones. Silk screening a polished chrome surface always seemed kinda silly to me.
@goodun2974
@goodun2974 8 ай бұрын
@@BradsGuitarGarage over time,, Silkscreening on Chrome often becomes almost allergic to many cleaners especially Windex or anything with ammonia. Windex will remove silk screening from old McIntosh hifi gear almost instantaneously. For anything old with silk screening we often use Never dull which is a cottony mineral-wool wedding impregnated with some kind of light petroleum stuff. We haven't seen it damage anything yet and it's really good for polishing chrome, brass and so on.

@@mnemonik61 , yes, and the oily film gets wiped off with a soft rag or microfiber cloth. Anyway, I subscribe to the Hipocratic Oath when it comes to cleaning vintage electronics: First, do no harm! Well, the craftsmanship on this $8000 amp is awful. I understand that it’s a normal price for an hand built boutique amplifier but this looks like a modified generic Chinese tube amp kit that is built by a sloppy beginner. And on top of that, it looks like the mods are overloading the power transformer. The addition of the cooling fan is the proof that they saw the problem but chose the most moronic way to try to solve it. In fact is that didn’t solve the problem, it just delayed the resulting failure. So we have to question the competency of the people who designed this amp.
