right I've had to grind this track on GT7 a ton but this the first time in almost 15 years I've seen it on GT4, really miss that game PD missed the mark on the singleplayer experience in 7

atleast on gt4 you can switch to using the Bspec driver if you feel like you need a break when you got a decent lead. couldn't do that on gt5 since they completly split the Bspec to be its own thing so had to drive all 24 hours yourself

I think at the time people didn’t know how to customize the start times

Nope, it was considerably faster and/or more powerful than all the other cars showed on this video. Only the Sauber had more power than it, but the 787B was still considerably lighter than it and with better aerodynamics. Yes, the 787B was THAT MUCH dominant back then. Which is why it was banned, way too fast.

@@pedinhu18 lol no it wasn't. the rotary engines were out of the rulebook for the next season long before the Le Mans success. The 787B was never the fastest of its time, let alone faster from newer cars like the R8. Its best result other than LM was 5th. You can compare quali times and total laps with the other cars of this video and you'll see it wasn't the fastest

also have to consider that 1. the game came out in 2004, the track in-game most likely doesn't match up with the real life circuit 2. this is most likely not the same track layout as the '91 season 3. he most likely has the car upgraded fully, which means the car is performing better than the real life 787b 4. it's a game, so players don't have to deal with engine failure or needing to drive slightly under the limit to avoid retiring the car

@@harveyknguyen I personally disagree with points 1 and 2. Though the model of the Circuit de la Sarthe isn't laser scanned like it would be today, it is a very close representation of the 2002-05 layout of the track. The layout isn't exactly the same as the 1991 layout, but the changes made between 1991 and 2002 would of made lap times slightly slower (like tenth's slower), with the dunlop chicane made tighter after 1996, not to mention newer additions added after the dunlop chicane which did very little to the overall lap time. When you take this into consideration, and you compare qualification lap times between the cars, the R8 being able to do 3:36 at this particular layout (also only ever out qualified by the bentley), and the 787B reaching a 3:43 the year it won in 1991 on a mildly faster layout of the Circuit de la Sarthe. What does this mean? Simple: this 787B is modified in the game way beyond it's real-world counterpart in ways the other cars in this challenge are not. While the AI is at most 2-3% faster than real life qualifying pace per lap, this car is 12% faster than the actual 787B's maximum pace, pitstop included. Part of this is the real life car's top speed is 338 kmh, while this model goes as high as 370 kmh, which can account for as much as 8-10% when you also consider the faster acceleration model as well. For reference, the Audi R8 that you have to beat for this challenge also historically had a top speed of 338kmh at this circuit. Which is why point your 3rd point is completely right, at least as far as the engine could be concerned. All of this is to say this is still impressive to watch, and deeply satisfying to watch that last pass, but the 787B raced in game is cartoonishly fast.
