Some of the best cap space utilization is around having an elite shut down line (F and D combined). Guys who look forward to doing a "job" on the opposition's top line.

What a great discussion with the Habs season done. Really gets us thinking about the future and the timing. Draft, trade and sign for team culture and being built for the playoffs. Toronto missed on this in their approach by signing talent without considering the mix, the match and the culture. I think this year with limited contract slots and Carey LTIR restrictions, management will likely still be pretty selective in their moves to add to the team.

Sergachev vs Drouin for sure. I don't know about Tkatchuk though. I think Quinn Hughes is such a game breaker. He just had 92 pts as a defenseman, will be considered for Norris for years to come.

Brandon Montour made more sense to go after at the trade deadline in 2021 rather than Merrill or Gustafsson. That ship has sailed, though.

suzuki entered the league in 2019, has 286 reg season points, 23 points in 32 playoff games, during the same period since 2019, tavares has 331 reg season points and 23 playoff points in 35 games, what should tavares be paid for this time?

Patience, sign the young players to decent contracts ,continue the development, once Gally and Price come off the books , then you make a big push with ufa 's.

I agree with Marc-Antoine, Jake is not the correct ufa signing for us this off season. Habs aren't ready to compete for the playoffs so lets wait for a ufa signing for after next season. Jake turns 30 soon so no in Habs timescale to compete and he will cost many $$$$$ and want term.

Players don’t stop being good at 29, contrary to what people seem to believe these days. Suzuki and Caufield will absolutely be relevant in five years. They’re both still one or two years from reaching their peak. They won’t peak for three years and fall off so much they can’t help, say, Lindstrom win.

Imo, The Leafs have mismanaged their cap space and draft capital. These 2 things have heavily restricted what they are able to do in terms of trades and fa signings. The Dubas era was a masterclass in mismanagement.

Would you trade Anderson and Barron for Tavares? Would help Mtl get a real 2nd line next year and maybe try to resign him at a more reasonable contract after next year if needed. Would give a good veteran presence to the offense too and would get rid of Anderson contract. For Tor it would give them a young RD and free some cap room.

I think Tavares trade value (at full contrat price) is much lower than you might think. In fact, most media in Toronto think his contract is untradable.

If you could get Marner out of TO, I think after the other night, you might be able to and have the leafs eat 2-4 mill. If we could find away, he’d be the best bet out of TO. But I don’t think I’d go do it. Crazy thought Caufield, Anderson, 2024 n 25 3rds and a 2025 2nd to Ana for their 2023-24 1st n 2nd

Mariner has 1 year left and we could just sign him as a FA and not give up any thing to get him. So no to your trade proposal.
