this what happens when you don’t give a shit about nostalgia. disney is partly dead inside. it’s showing in everything they do lately from movies to politics to the theme parks. think real deeply for a minute what they actually did. they literally imploded one of the greatest most loved attractions in the history of the f**king world and replaced it with a theme that most people don’t even know and a character that’s really not very known. and we all know why…

Honestly, I really miss how the old Epcot was. Just like Jonas said, it was filled with the promise of “optimism of progress and tomorrow”. No solid Disney IP or characters outside of a few character meet-and-greets, but lots of fun places to actually learn something. Living Seas was better, IMO, as a sealab without Nemo and friends, the interactive exhibits were great. Horizons was an awesome look into the future. Norway was better with Maelstrom, I don’t believe Frozen is a good representation of the country. The Communicore buildings, specifically West (now demolished) always had some neat rotating exhibits and the Wonders of Life pavilion is sorely missed. But what do I know… I guess I’m just old.

Yeah, this is what set EPCOT apartf rom the rest of the parks- edutainment, you were entertained, but you ere also educated and each attraction tried to tell a story and relay a positve message about the world around us

@@jonathanl9663 agreed! I loved World of Motion when it WAS WOM... then it became Test Track, which was cool- more edutainment and aesoem theming- then Test Track vers 2. or 'Tron Track'... big big disappointment

Blows me away that Disney has not saved up some money to add new countries in World Showcase. It ‘s been decades since a new country has been introduced in EPCOT.

Getting rid of the fountain of nations is probably the worst thing they’ve done in Epcot and adding in a Moana walk through that doesn’t fit in the park is a ridiculous waste of money. They should have just added a ride in one of the other world showcase pavilion’s instead. The addition of Ratatouille and the upcoming Test Track refurbishment are positive changes though.

The whole renaming of different sections of Future World is just confusing. World Celebration looks like a bland and boring outdoor mall. I like Connections and Creations, I like the new trees, and I even like the new music (while I still miss the old). But, I'll never forgive them for removing the Fountain of Nations. It was an icon, and just awe-inspiring to see and experience. I feel that if they did their general updates, while also keeping the fountain, they would have had a much better result, and much better feedback from guests.

And then question why they removed the Fountain of Nations . . . Because they don’t believe in Nations, and want to demolish them, and don’t want national sovereignty to exist. Open borders, globalism, and all that.

It’s so poorly executed I didn’t even remember a Walt statue was there till after luminous when I was leaving the park. Moana was a one and done. And they really needed to update imagination and reopen wonders of life before any of this other nonsense. But that’s okay. My Epcot has been dead since 99.

I haven’t been since 21 so I haven’t seen it personally though my family may go in August. It all looks very underwhelming but I’ve been saying the same thing for years. “CLEAN THE FIGMENT RIDE, THAT THING IS GRODY!!!”

When EPCOT opened it was meant to be the showcase for adults to enjoy, a worlds fair that stayed open. Not what Walt wanted because after Walt died so to did the futurism of his vision for the community of tomorrow. My grandfather went there in I believe it was 1984, and he was ecstatic to see engineering innovations, technology that we today take for granted being talked about and demonstrated, and the world showcase aspect for someone that only traveled about during wartime. He loved it. It wasn’t made for children, it was the place adults could enjoy. Today, well all the meat of what used to be in the park is replaced with cheap junk that only holds wallet draining remorse within its walls. Nothing optimistic or innovative, just a cheap carnival ready and willing to drain your life saving for more of the same old junk you see everywhere.

I have memories of the NY World's Fair (1964-65) when I was really little. When it opened, EPCOT reminded me so much of that feeling of learning about new technologies, different cultures, etc. that the world's fair offered. Shame that it all got mucked up with IPs and confused theming.

We went to Epcot in March of 2023. It was the first time and my family had only ever been to Disneyland and California Adventure. We were very confused as to what Epcot was. We were told it was a place where you had lots of different countries in a big loop. It was that but it honestly felt like a place to sample food and buy drinks. It didn’t seem like it was for shopping or going on rides. So, because we weren’t interested in that we ended up ditching the park midday. We did ride the rides that were there but they too didn’t fit the theme. It’s a weird park.

If you know the history, Epcot was originally designed to be a futuristic city designed by Walt himself. The Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow (E.P.C.O.T.). The concept was scrapped after Walt died and it was decided to build it instead as a kind of perpetual “World’s Fair”, where they would have constant exhibits showcasing new technologies and visions for the future. It was meant to be a permanent place for inspiration into future innovations. So many local schools were sent there for field trips. While I went to school in the area I think I visited Epcot almost a dozen times. It was mostly known as an “Edutainment” center, educational entertainment.

I have been there. It is better than the walls that I had grown accustom to, and I can walk more quickly between the different ends of the park, while ignoring the sitting area there now. Quite the 'upgrade'.

I was in Epcot in January, and was underwhelmed by world celebration. I am hoping when communicore Hall,opens and there are festivals it will at least better the feel of it.

The new center of Epcot has NO kinetic energy. It is very disappointing. The new lighting in the ground is not working. Many of the light sticks in the gardens is not working.

In other words, they ruined EPCOT. Why didn’t they just use the communicore building for festivals? They could have done so much INSIDE that space, great place for when it rains, which is often on FL.

I have been very underwhelmed by the changes and agree that they should have left the fountain. I used to like the old Epcot Poll show they had in the old Communicore building (I think where the big gift shop is now).

My personal favorite was the Bill Nie the science guy. It's biggest draw was making learning fun instead of that dreaded books and paper often found in schools.

I have been to the new Epcot a dozen times this year. . . Although not since end of April. The new Epcot section is a shame. While there are some beautiful sections, it seems like such a waste of space and they have put in these work areas with computer plugs, and power ports that have no shade in Florida. While I love to sit and look at the beauty of Epcot, I would certainly never do it in the sun. I actually enjoy the Moana feature as it has an old-school Epcot field however, more than half the time I walk through there are sections that are not working.

They could have created a cool steampunk movie with Dreamfinder/Figment (before they screwed it up). Epcot was magical when I went with my fiancée (now wife) back in the Christmas of 1986. They already started the destruction of Disneyworld when I returned with my kids in the early 2000s (never got to see the original Journey ride). We are a Universal family and haven't been back to Disneyworld since the 2000s.

I’m a local and a fan of old school Epcot. Back when it was a fun and educational place it was my favorite park. Field trip memories for sure. Now meh. I still keep my pass and I’ve yet to do anything Disney this year, but I’m in the other parks about once a week. That says a lot about my opinion of Disney as we were exclusively Disney until a few years ago.

Rick, I thought this was EPCOT. Where's the futuristic city? Where's the robots? Where's the flying cars? This is the Earth 453's EPCOT, Morty. Walt Disney died before it was built. His scumbag brother Roy didn't want the responsibility of running a city, so he turned it into an amusement park. Is that why this world is so primitive, Rick? Yeah, Morty. But look on the bright side. This place is great. It has more alcoholic drinks than any other park. Uncle Rick is going to get hammered now, Morty, so carry me back to the resort when I'm through drinking.
