How to fix a leaky outdoor water faucet fast and easy.
One of the viewers brought this issue to my attention: The big nut is 1+1/8" and the smaller nut is 7/8" but this is just on this manufacturer and yours might be different. You can get away with using pipe-wrenches, adjustable wrenches, vice grips or even the closest metric sizes you can find, as long as they're not too tight.
Thank you for all the kind responses, the thumbs-up and especially for your time. It's truly great to help so many people and help save them money in these crazy, uncertain times.

Thank you for a very helpful video, especially the parts where you zoom in to show detail. My husband is disabled and not able to help with these kinds of repairs. I'm glad to help Shirley. Most common jobs around the house are not physically difficult. It's more about using common sense and having the right tools. This is what's great about KZfaq... video makers are saving a lot of people a lot of money and jobs that might seem difficult are not hard at all. In many cases the professional repair people aren't doing much more than taking advantage of the home-owner's ignorance. Peace

@Shirley Ellison Brown my husband passed away years ago and I’m having to do the little repairs around the house that I can. I can’t afford hiring a plumber for every little thing so KZfaq channels like this I have saved me in many ways. Unfortunately I am disabled myself so doing things that need to have hand strength is very difficult for me. Fortunately using a little leverage is key. So far I got off a stuck hose end from my backyard spigot and now I see the handle is dripping a little. I tightened it up a little bit so when the water is off it doesn’t drip. Although I know I am either going to have to replace the washers or the whole spigot since my house is older than me and that’s old.😂 Please know you’re not alone. I’m without a husband and my only son isn’t close by and has a demanding job with little spare time. So we will learn together the things we can do. God bless you and this gentleman who posted this video so clearly.🙏🏻❤🙏🏻

Tip: If you replace the gland ("top washer"), first use some ~400 grit wet/dry sandpaper to remove corrosion from the stem where it contacts the gland before reassembly.

Thanks John! My faucet was simpler, I only had one nut to deal with. I had done the replacement a long time ago but forgot the procedure, this helped a lot. Only the small one on the back needed replacement. Before heading to the hardware store, I checked my collection of rubber seals and to my delight, an old seal from the kitchen faucet looked identical so I gave it a try and whadaya know? It worked! I like saving a trip. Also before I reassembled the faucett I put a light bit of a product by Permatex called anti seize, it's an aluminum colored muck so I if I need to repair the faucett again it will come apart easier. The replacement seal was marked "OO" These old faucetts needed the seals changed more often but they are relatively easy to do. Think about that before someone talks you into "buy a new one." I have done it plenty of times with the kitchen, shower and outside faucetts. Thanks for the inspiration!

You got it brother. I love helping people and being useful. What you say about the old stuff is 100% right. This is why I love working on old cars. Somewhere around the 1970s companies learned they can make a whole lot more money by building things with a limited life-span.... so if you replace it 4 times in your lifetime... they just quadrupled their profit. It's a sad and pathetic scam. Anyway - peace to you and your family.

Hi, Yeah - the right tools are everything: Especially auto repair and some jobs are simply not possible without some specialty tool you're probably only going to use once or twice in your life. This is where renting the tool comes in handy. The problem with outdoor faucets is: they're in the weather all the time and the weather does an incredable amount of damage with rust, dirt and seizing parts together. Even with the right tools it can turn a 10 minute job into and all-day stress-fest. Thanks for your time.

@@adam1984k It's all basically the same concept, Adam. You have water constantly pushing against the outlet (faucet) 24/7.... Thanks for your kind words, Susan and I'm sorry about your husband. That had to be very hard on you. I'm just doing my part. Most people just need a little kick in the butt and someone in their corner believing in them. The main agenda is to show them it's not as hard as they might think but it takes more than words so it's all about proving it. This is my most popular video and every day I'm astonished by how many people it's reaching. I am honored to help so many people. Peace

Maybe there's someone in the family or a neighbor that can turn the wrenches while you instruct them? Plumbers aren't cheap and many of them (sadly) will bleed you for every nickle they can get. If you find someone with the strength just ask them to watch my video and they should have no problem tackling it for you. Whatever you do... be careful. Peace

Well - that's one good thing in all this mess. I grew up in poverty and could never afford to pay someone else, so it's fix it yourself or do without. In a case like this..., while the water bill is increasing, there's no choice but to fix it and you simply figure out how it works and take it from there. Anyway - thanks for stopping by.

Hi Ronnie.... The best thing I can say about this is: it helped a lot of people at a time when money was tight. At the time I published it there were other videos on KZfaq about this issue but many of them took forever to get to the point. It's a common problem for home-owners and it seems like it would be complicated or difficult. My job was to simply show and prove that it's neither complicated or difficult and they CAN do it for a couple dollars in 15-20 minutes tops.... which saves them roughly $200 per faucet on a plumber. It's all about giving the folks what they came for. Peace

Hi Jim, Thanks... Yeah.... The big 1M. I was going to do a whole video showing people what happens, how much you make, how long it takes, etc... but I never set out to do this.... It just sort of happened and I published it at the right time, the right people saw it and shared it and basically I just got lucky. It was one of the easiest videos I ever created. I'm proud of it but I try to be proud of everything I create Danny Bascivich had a KZfaq channel that never made him a nickle. He was one of the biggest, best road hustlers America ever knew and he was a great video maker and great pool instructor.... so figure that out... I'm glad I was in a position to help so many people and I hope some other people get that opportunity too. Peace
