What a beautiful spot you have there. The lean-to came out really nice and that is one of two ways I want to add to the back of my shop. Depending on the price of wood,(it is now Jan 2021, and lumber prices are through the roof due to COVID-19). I was going to just put on a close-like room to store the dust collection, but now I may just add 6 feet to the entire width of the shop. It's kinda tight so just 6 feet would really help a lot. The corner bracing looks very nice!

You guys did a great job on this build. I'm starting mine this weekend. Your roof is a bit level or flat. I need a good pitch. I was born, raised and live in central New Hampshire. Lots of cold and lots of snow! Town building code says I need a minimum of 22.5 degrees of pitch. I think I got it. But any tips would be welcomed. People think oh, Boston, it's cold and snowy there. I live 109 miles due north of Boston. Coaticook, QB Canada is a 3 hour drive. Boston is 2 hours.

2" X 4"s are not strong enough for a rafters. They should've been 2 X 6 instead. Ask a building inspector before building something like that. If that goes a down in a storm, your insurance won't cover it.
@JohnCruzProductions2 жыл бұрын
You can use either 2×6 or 2×4 rafters for roofs with a 3/12 pitch or greater, but it depends on the overall size of your shed. For roofs that won't experience heavy snow loads, (This is Kentucky) a gable roof can span up to 22' with 2×4 rafters.

@@eldermitchell-swkye2918 after l moved to new house..the person before tried to erect something beside house. They poured cement into those 8" diameter builder's support posts(l think they call them sona tubes)...well, ground has a slight slope and below its clay..they sank into ground and went into different angles. had hell of a time to pull them out(use of car and chains) after removal there was 6" of water at bottom of hole. That's why l'm using the wider 12" flat cement deck blocks and have 2 feet of pipe through the center to minimize the shifting due to flash rain, snow and ice of winter. also wider flat surface disperses load over a greater area(i'e...less load pressure per sq inch). also those blocks will be a big time saver and more economical than buying those sona tubes and bags of cement and mixing and mixing and mixing. just a thought...l'm building mine beside my garage..l'll keep you posted..maybe after a year to follow through on results after weather.

@@stevee7774 For one, too much material taken out of the wood for those bolts. Imagine if you had a 2 X 4 horizontally attached to a vertical post with one nail. If the one nail is 1/4 inch from the top edge of the 2x4 it will fail easily. If the one nail is 2 inches from the top of the board it will not fail as easily. The amount of material above (in this case) the connector (nail, screw, etc) makes a difference. Here they cut out a huge chunk of material for the bolts. The span will remain rigid because of the size of the wood but its strength of attachment to the post has effectively reduced it to the strength of maybe a 2X4 attachment.
