Learn 3 ways for how to add a life line to knitting with Marly Bird. Add a life line to your knitting for added security and for a place that you can rip back to should you find a mistake in your knitting.
These three easy steps for adding a lifeline can be tremendously helpful to any knitter especially beginner knitters and lace knitters.
Marly used a regular worsted weight yarn in a bright color to show the process on camera but she mentions that you should use cotton thread. 🧶Suggest using Cotton Thread without any color for the life line: bit.ly/CrochetThread

Oh man, sweet. I am a beginner working on a circular knit project: A raglan sweater for my teddy bear. I messed up on the increases but the neckline is perfect. I think this will save me from having to do the ribbing on the neck all over again 😁 perfect!

Also the fact that you added the detail that the size of the stitch only matters when it's moving to the new working needle on the right. That's the kind of detail that sometimes teachers forget to add, people know so much, for so long, forgetting how much you didn't know before you knew.

thank you for these important tips. I am a beginner and am teaching myself how to knit brioche and needed a way to keep track of those pesky rows as I move along. I won't have to start all over from the beginning-just to the row before my "oops!" occurred. This is going to be an addition to all my future projects.

Marly, Thank you! I watched this video a few days ago and thought what a great idea using circular needles for a life line. I thought to myself that I needed to remember this. Well today I needed to use your idea. I have been working the back of my 1st sweater and found a a big mistake and couldn’t figure out how to fix it. I use your life line idea and it worked beautifully. I am so happy that I was able to fix my sweater. I have learned so much knitting this with you. My biggest projects prior was a hat, scarf and dishcloths. This project is over the top for me. You’re an awesome teacher! 😊❤️

Hi Marly, thank you for this helpful video! I know two more ways that I want to share. 1. Use interchangeables that have a little hole for the tool that tightens them and pull a fine thread through this hole. It will get pulled through as you go! 2. ADDI sells something called SOS-cords. They have a small gap where you can put a strand of yarn in. Many greetings from Germany!

Excellent tips especially on adding a lifeline several rows below where you are working. Where would you thread your lifeline if it was garter stitches instead of stockinette stitches?
