3 жыл бұрынYuzuru Hanyu is not just a 2 time Olympic Gold Medalist, he is the embodiment of an inspirational athlete and human being. His real enemy is not any of his rivals, but his own struggle against asthma. In the recent World Figure Skating Championship 2021, he had another asthma attack. Even though he refused to elaborate on that which may sound like he was looking for an excuse, the fans and media understood it.
In this video, we will show you what really is an asthma attack. More than 300 million people around the world suffer from asthma, and around hundreds of thousands of people die from it each year. But why do people get asthma, and how can this disease be deadly?
*Special thanks to the Russian team medics on the scene who treated Hanyu in time. For everyone out there who suffers from asthma, Yuzuru is a great example of how you can overcome it and accomplish amazing things.

During the interview post Worlds 2021, Hanyu was reluctant to associate asthma attack as the cause for his less-than-ideal performance. He only briefly admitted that he had an asthma attack when asked by the reporters. But fans knew it. We know he didn't want to sound like he's looking for an excuse. We just want to make a video to raise awareness about asthma, what is it? and how it had been affecting Hanyu throughout his life, and lastly, to appreciate his beautiful skating in the exhibition which moved us to tears.. Thank you Hanyu for showing us you can achieve great things no matter what situation you are being put in.

My daughter is a skater and also has asthma. She looks up to Yuzuru because if he can skate with asthma and do such amazing things, she feels like she can, too.

I think people always forget about his asthma they always think his perfect and that his very healthy remember that he won the Olympics when he was not even fully healed and was using painkillers considering that he never made his asthma, injuries, and stamina an excuse and was able to be one of the top skaters and the greatest of all time and to be able to compete at the top at his age with the young skaters is amazing and again he doesn't use his age as an excuse that's what makes him amazing even though he already achieved and won every possible awards and medals for a skater he still chose to compete and improve that's why even if he's last or he doesn't get a medal I'll always cheer for him

I can only imagine why it got triggered. He still went on ice, he finished his FS and that nod-smile as he finished the program, is proof of how much of a fighter he is. He earned that medal with all his might. Respect. 🙏

@@Gemini530 idk if you are being sarcastic but I’ve seen you post on a few other comments. We aren’t putting down Nathan just acknowledging how resilient Hanyu is. It’s also not about saying that Nathan on doesn’t deserve his metals, I just want everyone to be scored as fairly as possible. Unfortunately figure skating has been notorious for corrupt judging for years now. I never want to blame the athletes or spread negativity when it’s the judging that needs reform. That being said, I do think Nathan deserved his gold l, he skated very clean and is an amazing skater. I also love Hanyu and hope that he can recover and come back stronger.

It´s amazing what he does... I, like most Koreans, grew up with so much prejudice against Japanese people, because of what our parents and grandparents went through during the war. Not that it was really my own direct story, but many Koreans, especially the older generation, are just conditioned that way. It was sort of ingrained in our DNA growing up, having hesitance towards Japanese people... 😔 I understand that each culture has it´s own challenges, and also it´s very own beauty. Seeing Yuzu skate, and also especially seeing him off rink, I will never ever again forget the beauty that Japanese culture holds. Maybe it´s also not specific about Japanese culture as such, but the humbleness and sincerity with which he holds himself really touch me. I just love so much how this brings people of *all* cultures together, so much happiness, joy, excellence, striving, and also pain, is shared. But it’s more about joy, and fun, and just giving one‘s best, every time, whatever this may look like. And even with his pain, Yuzuru teaches, and learns, at the same time. Yuzu does that. He shares his sincere emotions with us, and that’s the most prescious gift he can give.

My mother, sister, and boyfriend have asthma and they avoid being exhausted as much as possible... And as I look at Yuzuru and how did he even manage to practice, compete, with lots of pressure and of course the risk of getting covid-19 in his surrounding makes me sad and uncomfortable 🥺 Wishing you all the best Yuzu!

Yes we were all so worried about this Worlds mainly because of COVID and he's so vulnerable for that. When we saw him at the FS, we knew something must be wrong.. Can't believe he still managed to pull off that 4 mins of performance like that. Such a fighter he is!

@@FigureSkatingFan Very true! He was breathing pretty heavily and something is off really...his eyes were wavering, not the typical Yuzu that is on a FIGHT MODE. Still, I admired him for not blaming the asthma attack and took the challenge to be a better skater. What a champion.

As a person with asthma, I know the amount of pain when I have to just climb the stairs. Yuzuru is my inspiration to keeping going, seeing him going all out on the ice, having injuries, asthma attacks and all, but still going on as a champion is a really inspiring thing.

地元では大きな地震が2月と3月に再び起きて、一回目はリンクが閉鎖。出発前の地震で新幹線が動かないで飛行機に間に合わず。ルート変更してどうにかこの大会に着いてのを知っています。 そんななか、喘息の持病を抱えながらコロナ対策に注意を払い。 本当に発作が起きるのも当然でしょう。 そんな中最後まで日本の3枠のために試合を諦めないで下さりありがとうございます。

And some people were still complaining that he didn't get gold. Its not his fault, he fought so hard and did AMAZING. He deserves every bit of praise for getting a bronze. Gold, silver, bronze, or no medal at all - YUZU STAYS THE GOAT. No matter what he accomplishes next in life, he's done so much for the skating world, more than any skater ever could. He single handedly revived the sport

I have asthma and used to dance. There were a couple times I had an attack on stage and managed to finish the routine. It's hard to describe the engulfing feeling of panic that overtakes you.

Yup stay healthy --> The no. 1 priority. The placement in the competition really doesn't matter much to us. Just wish he can skate the way he wants it and achieve the goals he set for himself

I was an athlete, a long distance runner and yes, I am asthmathic too. Actually being active helped the asthmathic to improve their condition. I was told by my doctor before that it is good to be active and he said that it can help increase the lung capacity. And for Yuzuru to be on the top level of figure skating with his asthmatic self is such a beautiful sight. That shows how much his hardwork is paid off despite the disease. It is indeed hurt and painful especially when we caught fever or cold. It makes it harder to breath, mostly at night. Ribs felt like ripped apart. And I am so amazed that Yuzuru is doimg so well. I was an athlete during my schooldays and it does help me improve my condition. It's been years I got my last attack and I do not wish it to attack me anytime soon. I would seriously hate it.😂

Yes! When we saw him stepped on the ice on the day of FS, we were immediately worried because everyone could see his condition was not good. His face looked pale.. When he was skating, we were just glad he finished the entire program and managed to give a smile. Such a strong character he is

Every time I find out something about this exceptional human being, there's always more to admire! He's inspirational in his whole being. I've got what my doctor says is "twitchy airways" so I use a puffer as needed, too. I was a competitive gymnast and later a dancer, so I understand about the energy output needed. That Yuzu continually competes and we all pray he doesn't have an asthmatic attack, shows what a force of Nature he is! It's easy to forget that he has asthma, watching his perfection on ice, but also his absolutely delightful spirit with those around. He said in an interview on CBC that he was "born to skate." I hope he continues to joyfully breathe in his life's purpose.

Юдзуру,даже падая и ошибаясь,ты лучший, самый прекрасный фигурист,мне иногда кажется,что победа Юдзуру не главное,а главное фигурное катание,как творчество.

@@9afina ,пусть Чен станет двукратным Олимпийским чемпионом и докатает до 26 лет,как Юдзуру,на таком же техническом уровне,как сейчас.А Юдзуру мог бы уйти,но кайфует от катания,от тренировок.

Полностью согласен. Победа или поражение зависит от выступления фигуристов в этот день и судей. Но прикосновение к нашему сердцу требует целой жизни работы. И Ханю сделал это 💓

My asthma got diagnosed when I was 6 and I respect him so much for never blaming asthma for any mistakes or performances that are maybe not ideal. I get attacks very rarely nowadays but I'll never forget how painful and panic inducing they can be and sometimes when they do happen again I actually think about Yuzuru and my respect for him just grows stronger. He actually helped me a lot with starting to do cardio exercises again, which I avoided for a very long time because half the time they triggered asthma attacks. But seeing him skate despite the condition and his asthma actually getting better motivated me and showed me that hey, having asthma doesn't mean I can't be good at sports. I got better medication now and can run a 10k without problems most of the time and he really helped me get there.

As a person with acute asthma, I really hate to see haters attack his conditions gasped for air as he finished his SP and FS, seems like he didn't have any energy because of his ages. Damn I can't even talking while walking....

Полностью с вами согласна-он величайший фигурист! Его катание на льду не просто спортивное выступление-это искусство, высочайшего класса,а сам он живое воплощение грации и изящества,он создан для фигурного катания.Для меня Юдзуру,не считая Дениса Тена,любимейший фигурист!

He has been suffering from asthma since the age of 2. Yet he already developed a strong interest in the figure skating, largely inspired by the Emperor of Ice Pluchenko. And it was his mother, who encouraged him to make his dream come true, by saying that a sportsman with asthma could win the gold in the Olympic game and taking him to the former Japanese speed skater who has asthma yet who won the gold to have his signature on Yuzuru's kindergarden sack. And Yuzuru wanted to make her words to be his mission: winning the gold medal at the Olympic games.

As someone who has asthma, I am truly amazed that he still managed to hang on and compete. He even won a bronze medal. Even though he was not feeling good. I could barely move when I get bad attacks. I really don't know how he did it.

A mind of steel really! Yup one of our editors also has asthma and I had seen how bad it was when there's an asthma attack. And it lasts for hours or sometimes even days.. So we really respect Hanyu a lot. And for you too, please take care 💓💪😀

Amazing is right! I have asthma and perfumes, colognes, etc are the worse triggers. He looked so exhausted sometimes I just wanted to hug him! His attitude is key and he will succeed regardless.

That is why all his achievments are amazing, considering he had to deal all his life with this awful health problem...he really is awsome...such a great model to follow, not only for younger skaters, but for all the kids, in any sport they want to perform.

My respect for yuzuru literally just grew ten fold, that fact that he battled asthma to become figure skating's GOAT is so godamn inspirational! And my oh my that gala, yuzuru's performance made me weep🥺🥺🥺 If I ever have the good fortunes of meeting him I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to hold back my tears❤️❤️❤️

I though asthma people cannot be an athletics so, I quit from handball but watching yuzuru I start to think that I want to be like him. Asthma attack really hurt like your heart being rip of. That's why asthma people scared to dead when it come to sports. But yuzuru is incredible because 1 jump can make you have an asthma attack for me. I really respect him. ♥️ Stay healthy yuzuru.

@@FigureSkatingFan надо было привести в "пример" контрастом симулянтов здоровых "астматиков" норвежск.спортсм по биатлону! Когда вы произностите в спорте МНОГО астматиков! то прям бесит! астматиков не так много...как много симулянтов! и это надо подчеркнуть, что истинные герои астматики имеют приступ ПРЯМ ВО ВРЕМЯ СОРЕВНОВАНИЯ и НЕ получают 1 место!!! А лживые НЕ имеют приступов во время соревнования!!! и получают 1 место! Где хоть у одного норвежца был приступ? и что бы он доказал, что астматик и не смог хорошо "отработать"???!!! не говорите больше МНОГО АСТМАТИКОВ в спорте! это как оскорбление для Юдзуру!!! как вы на один с ним уровень проблем ставите все говно в спорте??!!! этих уголовников!?

Yuzu always fighting against himself, his asthma, his injuries. He is a diamond, what a sporting spirit. He went to the ice and stood upright, without complaint. I had already noticed something different about him, when yuzu entered the ice that day. He was pale and without his flame in his eyes

I am happy there was explaination why Yuzu didnt perform well, so many critics, they didnt know what happen to him but yet still humiliated him. Yuzu you are a warrior, my king of ice, keep going ! ❤❤❤❤❤

@@FigureSkatingFan the american media, some judges and reportes have been on their agenda for the past few days..they always do this to him especially before olympics and now they've also added racism above all of that. I'm on twitter and unfortunately you see everything there..it's not good. It seems almost everybody decided to go against him

We continue to support him and admire his integrity, his unflinching dedication, and his sublime artistry. He is golden, and has proven the greatness of his place in the history of skating. Yup!! Another thing that made us cry was to see him healthy again. A big difference from the day before. Like there's spark again on his face. Now really wish he can rest well at home

Huge respect for him and other athletes with asthma all around the world. You’re truly fighters. Yuzuru is a true inspiration, still keeps going and achieves more even though it’s even more difficult than being an Olympic skater itself is (which is really hard). I really admire his mindset.

Настоящий мужик, геройский парень, самурай! Очень неприятно, что хейтеры прямо аж взахлёб ругают и отправляют на пенсию, но Ханю стойкий парень, кроме того, что огромный талантище! Его выступления хочется пересматривать и любоваться ими, они цепляют за душу!

how did i not know about you until now.....i have asthma too....i loved sports during my high school but my parents refused to let me participate in any of the competition because they thought that it will cause me health complications.....thank you for giving me inspiration....💙💙💙💙

Its really break my heart to see him suffering like this and its more worse when i read a lot of stuff about how he always underscored. How could he withstand all this injustice? People keep asking about his retirement eventhough they know he love to skate and perform. He still on top of the game. Why did people asked this stupid question to him? From now on just skate for yourself, dont think about winning, about your fans, etc.. just do what makes you happy. Just happy to see you skate in every competition
