التَّاجِرُ وَالصَّائِغُ
The Merchant And The Jeweler
The Merchant And The Jeweler
Once upon a time, there was a wealthy merchant who had a precious gem of high value that he wanted to drill through. So, he hired a skilled jeweler for a hundred dinars a day and took him to his house to drill the gem. Inside his house, there was a harp. Curiously, the merchant asked the jeweler, "Can you play the harp?" The jeweler replied confidently, "Yes, I can."
Then, the merchant asked him to play, so the jeweler took the harp and played a beautiful melody. The merchant was delighted and asked him to continue playing. As the jeweler played on, the merchant was enchanted by the music, moving gently from side to side in delight until the sun set. When the day ended, the jeweler asked for his payment, but the merchant questioned whether he had worked enough to deserve it. The jeweler explained that he had done what was asked of him. Eventually, the merchant paid him the hundred dinars, and the precious gem remained undrilled.
The tale underscores the significance of fairness, honesty, and balance. It urges us to appreciate others' work and talents, even if unrelated to our goals, as it can enrich our lives. Moreover, it stresses the need to stay focused on our objectives, fulfill commitments promptly, and maintain integrity in all dealings.
