Yes on the news ( -paper). Thanks to you also now Lyrics training, an app I did not know before. Memrise is soooo boring atm, will pick it up again maybe. Quizlet is confusing me a bit. TV is not for me. Drops. That's it. Still hoping to find some daily Internet channel that might show some news in Portugues instead of just reading it.

I love the presentation, suggesting 6 habits/ tactics to learn Portuguese. I enjoyed watching Top Gun Maverick with Portuguese dubbing and subtitles. I also watch The Chosen with Portuguese subtitles. There's a great app called Radio Garden that offers radio stations all over the Earth, so I listen to Lisboa stations at times. My #1 learning technique is to write a few new words on my hand every day; so I'm bound to read them over & over again throughout the day. I also take a minute to make a sentence with each one of them.

Nice, be careful of writing on your hand tho!! I remember being told at school it can be dangerous if the ink seeps into your skin! Maybe that is just something we tell kids to stop them doing it... I don't know!

May I add a few tips. Portuguese is about the 11th or so languages I've learnt to some degree, leaving out various other ones I've dabbled in very slightly. 1. Watch or listen to the Sunday services. Antenna 1 radio 8am. 10.30am on RTP TV. 2. Be careful about speaking too quickly (yes, quickly) and also 3. Cutting off many syllables. Native speakers often ask you to repeat or fail to understand. This is because "slow processing" as well as types of "dyslexia" and other specific learning and processing differences are extremely common in all populations, including those which make it difficult or impossible for some people to distinguish between some sounds. As well as difficulties in eliminating multiple and/or background noises. Altogether 40+% of the population! 5. When saying numbers, say two numbers, pause, then the next two, pause, etc. This excellent Portuguese habit is why it is far easier for people like me and many others with learning differences to hear and say numbers in Portuguese than in other languages. Many people can only absorb two numbers at a time!

Excellent tips. I need to revisit the listening and reading part as I've become a little irregular with those. I add another method for remembering and that's my trusted yellow post it notes. Slap them onto the objects in a given room and you'll see the name flash across your eyes everytime you enter or leave that room. Not only does it help with visual memory of the object itself while remembering the word but repeated sighting of it helps reinforce and hammer home the Portuguese word. Now I no longer get confused between "forno" and "fogão" because I know exactly what they look like 😊

I'm going to follow your videos, as l love Portugal. I'm Scottish but live in England. I felt the Portuguese in away is similar pronunciation to some words in Scotland, as like there Portuguese, Scottish language roll their 'r'. I have been going to Portugal since 2009. I'm hoping to retire there. I adore Portugal. I try to speak Portuguese as much as possible.

I spend about an hour on Mango Languages every day. Then I listen to KZfaq videos with people speaking Portuguese. I try to listen to lots of different speakers. I find some I can understand almost completely e.g. Jackie from the KZfaq channel, "Ask Jackie." And some I don't understand at all, e.g Taty Ferreira from the KZfaq channel, "Acidez Femina." "Olga do Brasil" is a Russian woman who speaks Porguese at a frightening pace. And I use Forvo.com to compare European and Brazilian pronunciations. We have a news programme on television in Toronto in Portuguese so I listen to that. I try to write KZfaq comments in Portuguese. I love it when someone writes back in Portuguese.

I‘m at a really beginner level, so I guess News reading would be frustrating. But I try to watch one video a day, currently still mixing Portuguese and English (like your learning videos 😃). Both foreign languages for me, but English feels much more home. And I try to use Drops once a day and write down new words and try to speak them, even it feels a bit silly in front of the computer. 😉 Maybe I should try more to watch videos just in Portuguese to loose the „fear“ of not understanding something at all.

Sometimes I try to read or listen even if I don't understand. It lets me kind of "cheat" in-between practices. Basically, my goal is to not aim for accuracy but to simply just expose myself to the language. Hearing the cadence of speech, the inflections, and most importantly the pronunciations is my only goal. When reading, I read aloud, even if I don't know what the words mean. What I find is, even though I am not advanced enough to comprehend most of the content, I'm learning sentence structure, building context clues, and developing a rhythm that native speakers talk and write with. If you ever watch an American cartoon called "King of the Hill", there is a character named Peggy that comically speaks Spanish (as a second language) in a very robotic way, as if she was directly mimicking an audio lesson or an instructor talking very slowly. Oftentimes, the Spanish speaking characters in the show are a bit confused at why her Spanish sounds so unnatural. I'm trying to avoid that haha Hope this helps.

Can you please do something on "language interference" and "interlanguage" or "interlingua" as they call it in Coimbra University classes of Portuguese for Foreigners. For some of us Portuguese is far from our first foreign language (Italian, French, Greek, some Spanish and smattering of other languages (such as German and Russian). Every Professor here has identified an Italian interlingua problem in my case. You can DM me on twitter: @adrianwhyatt. I insist on speaking to them in Portuguese even when they speak in English.
