Learn How to Hit a Roll Volley | 4.0+ Shot and Drill

The roll volley is a critical shot to have in your bag if you want to be effective at generating some offense at the net, especially at higher pickleball levels. It's one of the more technical shots in the game and is a learned skill. This video gives you a drill to learn the technique and refine the shot.

Hey thanks for the video. What I'm trying to work on its fast and exchanges while getting Top Spin on the ball. So sort of a role Vale but in those quick exchanges. I watch the pros do it and it just amazes me. Hitting the ball back with pace is hard enough but getting English on it while you're doing that is another level

yeah, the pros are impressive. In that case, find a wall you can hit against and hit 50 forehands in a row with that roll volley form and do your best to keep everything tight. Then do it on your backhand side and then mix between them.

Thank you for this video. The roll volley is actually something I want to learn. Would you still use the roll if you get a high bounce off a dink in the NVZ, at say knee level or a little above?

Yeah, it's the same technique. You need to be more precise with your target when you attack off the bounce since it's easier for your opponent to see it coming but it's essentially the same shot. You could do this same drill but have your drilling partner bounce it instead of volleying it.

What grip do you use for this? Still continental or eastern on the forehand?

@@pickleballeffect that makes it simpler not to have to change your grip at the NVZ line. I don't but have heard it's easier to generate top spin roll with Eastern.

Your roll volley looks like a flick volley. A flick volley bends the wrist. Other YTers show the roll volley where it's all shoulder movement and the wrist stays locked.
