I wasn't sure about watching this video the moment you mentioned that you weren't good at explaining things but you proved me wrong and I'm glad I stayed I learned the most out of your video than any other I've seen.

I've got my own Pokemon TCG mentor to thank for that! He really helped me piece together the structure for this vid. Trying to keep it all in mind for future videos. I'm glad it helped, though! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for this video! I just got pulled into collecting Pokémon cards by one of my coworkers this past Friday, & it’s good to get an idea of how this is played because as you said, if the guides that came in the boxes explained it well, we’d probably have gotten into it sooner XD Looking forward to more videos, hope you have a blessed day! :)

Great video! Just had some quick mechanics questions, what's the deal with retreating? I remembered in one of your other tcg videos you mentioned having a card that removed retreat cost and one that gave damage counters for retreating, but when can you retreat and is there a limit to how many times you can do it either in a turn or per match? Or is it like in the game where you can do it at any point but you would just lose the ability to act on the turn you do it?

Excellent question! One card that allowed this was a stadium "Tower of Waters" that removes 2 energies from the retreat cost of 'Rapid Strike' Pokémon (these Pokémon will have the words "Rapid Strike" on the top right of the card, similar to "Single Strike" and "Fusion Strike". That usually puts the retreat cost down to 0 which means they can retreat for free. Air Balloon is a tool that does the same thing when it's attached to a Pokémon. Fore example, if a Pokémon had 4 energies in their retreat cost and they have Air Balloon attached, they would only need to discard 2 energy cards (or a special energy that provides 2 energy). This method of retreating is called "hard retreating" and you can only do it once per turn. HOWEVER! You can use cards like Switch, Escape Rope, Bird Keeper, etc to do it as often as you have those cards.

... I wanted to get back in to the game but now learning that on top of the cost since old cards aren't viable in play by a number of reasons hearing the changes to some of the rules that seem to punish you for bad luck.... Just, why?

The cost is actually the best of any TCG I've played. You could probably build a full, top-tier deck of secret rare cards for the same cost as a top-tier YGO deck, and 3 for the price of one competitive MTG deck. There is still a cost, yes, but it's also very budget friendly IMO. The standard rotation does require you to keep buying new cards, but if you're a collector you're already doing that regardless. The Expanded and Gym Leader Challenge formats allow older cards to still have uses, though. Depending on how vibrant your local scene is, there should be tournaments for both available. It's also fun to try and build the decks on the TCGO to play remote. Which rules regarding luck were you referring to? I might be able to clear some stuff up.

any plans to check out the fftcg? I figure it would be a no brainer for you given 14 and the game gets better each set!

Gotta find a reliable vendor, but I am interested. No one near me sells it and ordering online has looked really expensive from what I could find.
