This video shows how to quickly and safely remove oxidation from your car or truck. Dead paint usually popular in white and red colors can ruin the look of your car or truck. Wet sanding by hand will bring that finish back to life when followed by a little polishing and wax. By the way... hand sanding may not be faster than machine sanding but is much safer. You have more control over a light sanding block than a 9 pound machine.

Brian, I just want to express my appreciation for all the hard work you put into making these videos. Your knowledge base is absolutely phenomenal and you have no idea just how much you’ve taught me and so many others on your channel. Because of you, I started my own auto detailing business. Anytime I have a question on something I search for one of your videos for clarification and it never disappoints! Thank you for your passion, intelligence, and your drive to always improve and help others!

Thumbs up on the longer videos. I can watch while having coffee, and getting ready for the day... or when I'm relaxing in the evening. Appreciating your efforts. Been checking out Wilson's channel as well, sub'd to him 3 or 4 days ago because I saw the zeal for detailing in him as well. He's going places.

Bring it on my man. Like I told you before, I'm a pro as well, it's just amazes me how much I'm able to keep refining my skill level when I leave my mind open to learning more because I can be set in my ways sometimes. Spreading my polish on the panel with a towel before I start polishing has cut my time, it's SOOO simple but just never crossed my mind until I saw you doing it. Simple rotary hand placement is another new pickup. I'm good with a rotary, but admittedly like to finish with a DA. Working on my rotary finishing skills, again, thanks to you. Never be scared to grow. I'd watch a 20 min. vid by you if ever you drop one. C U on the next one.

awesome video! I had some roughness on my rear bumper cover which is a yellow, I took 3000 grit and wet sanded very lightly and now in spots it looks like the paint is faded where i wet sanded, is there any saving it or off to a paint shop?

Hey there thank you for such precious videos. My gf recently bought a used car that I'm gradually restoring. The roof is white and fill of swirls, car stays and always stayed out. I've given it just a one pass polish with a yellow wool rupes pad and cutting compound but I fell the surface still a bit grabby, and not smooth when I wash it. Should I wet sand it as you did, could it be oxidised?

This would work with a black car with heavy oxidation on the hood roof and trunk?

My Miata's hood is slightly oxidized, do you think I can get away with hand polishing after cutting with wet sandpaper? I don't wanna drop $200-300 for an orbital polisher just yet unless I really need it. As a baseline, I've polished by hand before to get clear coat scratches out. Great video, by the way! I have a question. When you wet sand to remove oxidation. At some point down the road, will the oxidation return? I always thought that oxidation was a sign of clear coat failure, and at that point in which the clear coat starts to fail. To my understanding once the clear coat starts to fail, There is no way to reverse the process. Polishing would only be a temporary fix but the oxidation would return. Is this correct?

Just as info-If that is a Sure bilt 5000 sanding pad you are using, then you should be using the red side.

Are plastic areas like bumpers treated the same? Do you always use a 3" inch pad? At what point do you use a compound instead of polish? And lastly, after polishing, do you which wax do you apply? Do you ever use those quick detail products?
@apexdetail85
@apexdetail85 7 жыл бұрын
I will cover plastic areas later in the series. I just used the 3 inch polisher here to show not much effort is needed to finish after 5000 grit. Compound can be used if the 5000 grit step is skipped. Jumping from 3000 to compound is fine

If you need to wet sand anything with more than 2000 gritt you dont need to wet sand. You can get anything over 2000 gritt done with a good cutting compound and a dual action polisher.

One thing I notice watching a bunch of your videos, you do not stick to the 50% overlap when using the polisher. I assume your argument is as long as you cover the surface, it should be good. What do you have to say about that?
@apexdetail85
@apexdetail85 6 жыл бұрын
Alper Sayar when Iam not rushing through a vid... 25% is all you need ... more is overkill. Time is money doing this for a business compared to being an enthusiast.

Apex Detail, I ended up using 2500, here is my process: 1. Used a paint prep 2. Clayed the area 3.IPA wipe 4. Wet sand solution, car soap and distilled water. 5. Orange cutting pad, with Maguire's Ultimate Compound 4-5 passes 6. Maguire's Ultimate Fast Finish
