Today we learn 4 new letters - I, M, K and R.
These videos should be watched in sequential order as they are additive and build on each other.
BEFORE you watch this video, WATCH THE PRIOR VIDEO as a refresher to the previous set of NEW characters.
Continue on with this video for about a week to get the characters memorized and perfect. INSTANT CHARACTER RECOGNITION IS THE KEY!
As mentioned in other videos, if you want to really learn Morse Code, check out CW Ops or Long Island CW Club....
.. but if you dont want to commit and want to take a casual - no commitment approach to learning - this might be a good way to go.
Let me know if these videos help. Im committed to help folks learn Morse Code, so I welcome any feedback.
CW on my friends!

Something I realized last night, regarding watching the screen: I found myself watching him key the letters (rather than just listening). Hmm! So now, I'm listening with the screen minimized on the computer. 🙂

I'm in highschool and I've always been interested in learning morse code. It's the summer and I decided to learn it. Your videos have been the most helpful so far and I'm really grateful that you made this series. There are always gonna be some haters lurking around but know that they don't deserve that you give them any thought.

These videos are excellent, thank you for sharing them. For some reason, I kept confusing the A and the N. But then when you showed the M, I started seeing the N as an M that ends early (just like the written N and M), and now I don't confuse the N and A anymore. Not sure this makes sense to anyone other myself lol.

@k9kj On my 3rd time through this lesson in 30ish hours, and feeling dull because I didn't yet feel ready to move on, I keyed on your encouragement to stay here a week if I needed to and make sure that I had the letters cold and hard before worrying about going to the next level. Would practicing the letters on the paddles help any or would it be best to learn the alphabet & numbers before buying anything?
@k9kj
@k9kj 4 ай бұрын
I think anytime that you can also practice sending will be helpful! Even if you embark on purchasing a paddle that is on the more expensive side, know that you can always get most of your money out of it if you wanted to resell it

Yeah! I'm closing my eyes as I go through the video each time, but if I miss something, then I rewind a tad, open them back up, and check what was keyed (it's much easier, for me, to tell the difference between characters when watching them be keyed).

Suggestions for practicing? Also what paddle you recommend for practicing

At about 4 letters a key, how do I switch between the 9-10 different keys needed quickly enough to have a QSO using the whole alphabet? “The quick brown fox…” sentence would be brutal and cost well over $2k in keys to send. Explain Like I’m Five.

@@k9kj Well, I've got 4 keys for now. A straight key, a bencher, an MFJ, a little piece of crap plastic paddle key that shocked me that it sells for around $60.00, and a tiny paddle that was affixed on top of a pixie qrp rig. It's cute but the rig doesn't work yet. One paddle paddle is silent. Right now I'm just trying to get on the air. My apt. is 100 yrs old so lathe & plaster walls and lots and lots of chicken wire. Indoor antenna is out of the question and there is no yard to put anything up outside. Going to try and build a loop, but I'm old, disabled, and on SS. Uncle Sam thinks at my age I should just sit and watch paint dry until I die. It takes me a couple months to gather the parts together for a project. My goal is to be on the air by January 1st for straight key night. But.... if we get that so called 4th stimulus check, I'll be looking for one of these. They look so cool. have a great weekend coming up. - - . . . . . . - -

I can not understand why you are teaching with a poorly adjusted keyer. Also, why are you giving ten to 20 random characters with no instruction? Wouldn't it be better to spell a word and then tell us what you keyed? After these lessons, you will have lost a follow because you .../..-/-.-./-.-

No. I prefer it the way he is doing it. If you have a pattern, like when doing words, then (especially when rewatching the video) you can build up a memory of what is coming next and not actually learn the characters being sent.
