Literally the only video you need to get into the basics of music theory!! Everything I've seen so far has either been super long and/or didn't have the quality to explain something in a simple way that a rookie can actually understand.

Incredible stuff. Please make this a series. I’ve been learning theory for months and have encountered all of this in one form or another but have seen enough to know you really know how to tie it together. Would love to see what you would cover on theory next.

As much as I despise having to write it out and read music on manuscript, I love this stuff. One thing I’ve always wanted to learn is a good way for my short stubby hands to be able to play the keys. I played the trumpet during some of my adolescent years but as I got older, I gravitated towards producing. Unfortunately, I can’t play piano but I constantly use what I learned in music theory from my senior year of high school to craft my work.

I play the guitar ( an acoustic guitar has cool tamber) it's a combination of mixing/borrowing/inserting chords from different scales. Example from the Key of C MAJOR/A min...as a GUIDE. I say that becuase Im going to play notes/chords outside of C MAJOR. The MAJOR scale dosnt create all the different SOUNDS...its just a GUIDE or REFERENCE point. It's not BASIC...but it's not difficult. C Harmonic MAJOR = Ionian b6 ( or Ab) C Maj7 F min G7 into C Major Ion b6....D dor b5...E phry b4.....F lyd b3....G mix b2.....aeo b1.....loc bb7 It's NOT that hard...Mode terms simply are INTERVAL identifications. You're better off learning therr INTERVALS. Rather than calling them WEIRD names. So get the BASIC DOWN... You're just going to shift a note ( most of time) Sometimes 2 notes... Lyd = Ionian #4...or a MAJOR scale with a raised 4th or #4. such as lyd #6....lyd #2, #6 lyd b2, b7...ect There just MODES from different scales....that's all. It's not easy to do on the KEYBOARD. (Easier on the fretboard) but if you COMPREHEND it. You can do simple counting from the ROOT note of a chord if you wish to build/stack chords using various modes I could do this E7/G..or G7 add b9 into A min chord C Maj F min G Maj add b9/13 A min. I could had played E7/G# ( A harmonic min) G# dim into A min but I didnt. That's typical Then play D min add9...then simply play different BASS notes below that chord with my mix finger..It'll create a sad sound D min add 9/Eb D min add9 D min add9/Bb G min F min E7 into A min A min Eb min G7 into C MAJOR I also know you can play MAJOR. min. DOMINANT or dim chords every b3 intervals... In stead of A min........C min.....Eb min Gb min I just inserted the Eb min to get A min Eb min G7 into C MAJOR....( back to the TONIC of C MAJOR) Then D Maj B min7 E7 into A min The D Maj B min7 E7 are all possible chords from A melodic min D Lydb7 B dor b2 E mix b6 A dor maj7 = A melodic min ( F#, G# notes) I used all 12 notes....
@NatharamaGaming
@NatharamaGaming 2 жыл бұрын
In general if you pick chords from a minor scale it will have a sadder and more dark sound to it, good for emotional songs.
@oneeyemonster3262
@oneeyemonster3262 2 жыл бұрын
I''ll explain in C MAJOR/Amin...for reference so you use a KEYBOARD as a GUIDE. KEYS are just PITCH..All the circle of 5th dose is HELP some people keep track of the MAJOR scale in 12 different PITCH/KEYS. For formula is Mixolydian, maj7 = IONIAN or Ionian b7 = Mixolydian. The 5 BLACK notes on the KEYBOARD...counting from C MAJOR b2........b3........b5.........b6........b7 Db Eb Gb Eb Bb ARE ALL POSSIBLE neopolitian 6 or N6 chords These are the MODES I use as a GUIDE. If I want to construct a chord and INSERT them Lyd #6...Lyd #2, #6 Lyd #5, #6 or Ion #6 In a nutshell ANY TYPE of CHORDS It's just a SHORT CUT..if you havnt learn the different scales/modes yet. You can PUSH DOWN from C MAJOR towards C min b6 = Harmonic MAJOR b3 = melodic min b3, b6 = Harmonic min b3, b6, b7 = NATURAL min Those notes are also the SECOND ARPEGGIO of the 1, 4, 5 chords REVERSE the PROCESS... PUSH UP from A min towards A MAJOR b3, b6, b7 A min D min E min b3, b6 A min Dmin/dim E7 b3 A min D7 E7 b6 A MAJ D min E7 in a nutshell alter the 1,4,5 chords back and forth from MAJ or min ( visa versa) b3, #4 = A lyd b3 or melodic min #4 A min B7 into E Maj7 ( E Harmonic MAJOR) E mix b6 is the V mode of melodic min mix b6, maj7 = E Harmonic MAJOR Another SHORT CUT... 2, 4, b6, 7 CHORD DEGREE are all possible FULL diminished. whether you count from C Harmonic MAJOR or C Harmonic min AND/or...........................A Harmonic min or A Harmonic MAJOR They overlap in different KEYS Eb harmonic MAJOR or Eb harmonic min F, Ab, B, D Gb Harmonic MAJOR or F# Harmonic min G#, B, D, F Another SHORT Full diminished W/H ( you can stack MAJ, min, DOMINANT, dim every b3 intervals too... VAMP/SUBSTITUTE is over the G7 or V chord. G7......Bb.........Db.......E7 Most people will see the Bb and Db as N6 chords... Some people see them TRITONE SUBSTITUTIONS But I already showed you how to insert those chords example You could A min Bb7 into Eb min Gb Maj G7 into C MAJOR or A min Bb7 into Eb maj7 or Eb min then E7 into A min I can list other scale like this aeo maj7 dor maj7 phry maj7 mix maj7 loc maj7 These are just modes from different scales Aeo b2 aeo #4 aeo b5 Dor b2 dor #4 dor #4 Simply...raise b7 into maj7 Harmonic min...............melodic min Harmonic min b2..........melodic min b2 Harmonic min #4..........melodic min #4 Harmonic min b5..........melodic min b5 Harmonic min b2, b5 melodic min b2, b5 It'll basically give you every possible 7 notes VARIATION scale/modes People from different part of the world have different TERMS for them..that is all. There's other scales..with only 6 notes...or 5 notes. or scales with 8 notes...such as full diminished W/H or H/W

Music theory is not really necessary if your only drawing in midi because you can hear what's wrong and fix it, music theory is essential for playing a keyboard or piano however.

Oops. Need to correct something in your video. An accidental is a note that's not in the key of the song. It doesn't describe black notes on the piano. White notes can be accidentals too, like F natural in the key of G. Black notes are simply known as sharps or flats.

@1:35-.-Why can't I just find a video that teaches music free without using the musical alphabet? What can't people just teach music theory with a chromatic naming system? Screw it, I'm just learning the dodekah system.

Great video but I believe that the 99% of the beginners that try to make music have problem with combining more than 1 instrument to their music. I guess chords can be "the second instrument" but its difficult to have them play an alternative melody. Since there are no videos on this (having more than one instruments accompanying the melody), I guess someone has to be a real musician or composer to do it. ( *I dont mean a second instrument to play exactly the same notes...I mean, like in real songs, instruments that play accompanying "melodies")

@@savesta6127 Thanks for the tips guys!! But since in FL Studio you can have all the scales highlighted and play in the correct scale easily...you agree that all videos for beginners should be about harmony right? When I say Im a beginner, I dont mean Im hopeless , I can make a 1990s DOOM style music that has just the chords + 1 melody and it sounds very good..but thats it. If I try to add something additional it becomes worse instead of better. And all the "Music Theory for beginner videos" in You Tube talk about how to make chords.
