Thanks! The pronunciation I use is basically that suggested by Erasmus, the great Renaissance scholar. This was an attempt to pronounce it like it might have been pronounced in classical Greece. It has been taught to generations of students of Greek. However, the 'Koine' Greek of the New Testament was pronounced a bit differently. Recent scholarship has determined quite accurately how Koine Greek was pronounced: see for example kainediatheke.com, and www.biblicallanguagecenter.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Koine-Pronunciation-2012.pdf. (Acknowledgements to Randall Buth.) The pronunciation of modern Greek goes even further on the changes made in koine. I personally still find Erasmus' pronunciation helpful because it reflects the written text more closely with its closer correspondence between letters and sounds.
