I'm going to be taking my 2017 1500 to my local dealership to get warranty work done to replace the broken exhaust bolts. What do you think they will say, your experience of the past 12 plus years as a tech, if I want to do warranty work for them to replace the exhaust bolts, but use aftermarket headers? Follow up question what are the best aftermarket headers to use to avoid the broken bolt issue?

Also a quick tip for working the angle of 90 deg. Put a zip tie on the socket its self. You can still rotate the tight zip tie on the socket to reset your angle for each bolt or nut you torque down

Here is an amazing tip for people installing the camshaft. I haven't seen no one do it before and found out myself. When you have the cam almost all the way in with the bold on it, put the correct size socket on it with an extension bar for extra leverage. You're welcome ;)

I tore down my 5.7 Hemi a year ago because of failed cam and lifter. I scoured youtube looking for a Hemi rebuild video because it was my first time being head deep into an engine. This video is by far more informative than any other video I've seen, In another year or so I will probably be doing a full rebuild on my Hemi and will definitely be using these videos as a resource. Thanks for the information and confidence boost!

Looking forward to the rest of the series. Those rolok discs are really awesome, I never heard of them before until I watched a video you did a while back when you used them. If you want to do a dirt cheap head resurfacing, you can paint the head gasket side of the head with dykem, spray some adhesive on a piece of glass, stick some sandpaper to it, and move the head back and forth until all the dykem is off. No more high/low spots. If you vary where you grab the head, you won't sand in a taper.

Great video series. More info is better. Info on better/upgrade factory parts is quite valuable info. Looking forward to the oil pump tests. I guess younger generations don't realize that the head decks actually need a little bit of surface roughness for the head gasket to bite. There is a spec on surface finish related to heads that are decked at a machine shop.

Hi, I really like your channel, its the best Hemi content on KZfaq I've been able to find. I have a 5.7 with dropped valve seats which I am rebuilding and I have a couple questions I haven't been able to find authoritative answers for. - Do you need to replace the crank bolt when reinstalling? - If I screw something up and need to pull a head before running the motor, but after the head has been torqued, do I need to use a new gasket? Because the gaskets aren't cheap I'm a bit fearful of committing and torquing it down.

Another great video Sky, I clean the head surface the same way and never had a problem, I will caution others though to make sure you clean the area really well afterwards as the disc can leave some fibers. Also make sure they use the fiber disc and not the rubber ones with the fingers as those do have an abrasive in them and will leave it behind.

I think I would up using brake cleaner a nylon disc and some green abrasive pads.And your right,brake clean and those green abrasive pads don't mix to well.I had to blow everything of with compressed air afterwards and go back over it with more brake clean and the another pass with air to ensure that I got rid of all the fibers.

GM literally has service bulletins about using abrasive discs and pads (Bulletin #00-06-012H). First point in this bulletin: "Abrasive pads will produce fine grit that the oil filter will not be able to remove from the oil. THIS GRIT IS ABRASIVE AND HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE INTERNAL ENGINE DAMAGE. Abrasive pads can easily remove enough material to round cylinder head surfaces. This has been known to affect the gasket's ability to seal, especially in the narrow seal areas between the combustion chambers and coolant jackets." This only applies to warranty work of course. On retail or "customer pay" jobs we still use em.

It may be helpful to clarify engine work terminology so here’s my 2 cents worth. 1. ENGINE REPAIR- Fixing only what’s wrong with it and putting it back on the road. This is what a dealership does. 2. ENGINE OVERHAUL- Tearing it down replacing rings, bearings, honing cylinders, grinding valves and re assembling. 3. ENGINE REBUILD- Machine the block, reassembling with new or machined parts to make it as close to a new engine as possible. 4. CUSTOM ENGINE REBUILD- Machine the block and reassemble with high performance parts to gain horsepower and performance. We won’t mention stupid phrases such as REFURBISHED which to me means washed, waxed and rattle canned. (See his previous video on transmission rebuild in a can).

Is it possible to take an engine block from a RAM 5.7 hemi 2009+ and place it in a 2009+ 5.7 hemi car. I know that the oil dipstick tube is on the opposite side on each of the 2 engine blocks also that the Ram's dipstick is at the rear of the block and that on a 5.7 car engine block it is at the front . Do you think there is a solution to this problem? Do we have to use the oil pan of a 5.7 hemi automobile. Are the locations of the motor mounts of the 2 blocks identical? Thank you!
@ReignitedAuto

The long block itself is identical. You will have to block the dipstick hole at the back of the block, and the front one will have to be drilled out, but the oil pans will bolt up just fine and the locations of the motor mounts are the same. 👍

Hello, My name is Ed. I have loved the HEMI engine my hole life. Question is info on a good quality overhaul kit for the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 HEMI. I bought it a few years. It had 137,431 miles on it. Today it has over 230,000 miles and it still runs great. Best thing no MDS or VVT. Yes, I understand it has 230,000 + miles on it and runs good. Buy I don't want to push me luck. So, if you can let me know on a good reliable good price overhaul it possible with an cam upgrade. I got the intake manifold off an old Dodge Charger police car with the HEMI. I'm sorry but I don't have a lot of money to get the best of the best. But I've had this truck for over close to 10 years. Lol it only let me down once when the fuel pump went. Shit I never charged the spark plugs since I had it. I'm just not really to give it up. If you like I can send you some pics of it.

Hey man you could probably answer this for me because I am getting some conflicting answers. I bought a used 5.7 long block out of a 2012 Dodge Durango and wanted to forge and rebuild it for my 2013 Challenger R/T but some people are telling me the block is different because of the refluctor wheel tooth spacing and that the front journal on the crank is longer.
