I love how you tell us what you mix for your first flesh tone, please tell us what ratio you color mix for the rest of your colors on future videos. It's really this part that gets me anyway, but I'm sure a lot of us beginners struggle in that area, and there isn't any good way of teaching it, but you give us a good starting point with that first mix.

I try and provide the rough mixtures, however as im sure you know it varies and has to be tweaked. I will eventually do some basic color mixing videos. Thanks for coming by!

Very cool..... I'm definitely a novice with the airbrush. What types of paper/other media do you use for projects that are not practice?
@TheAIRspace4 жыл бұрын
Well, aside from some doodling and a little warm up im not sure I really "practice" much anymore. well other than all of it is practice. Media I paint on currently. Terraslate, yupo, aluminum composite panels, canvas, gesso board, clayboard, photo paper and posterboard on some tutorial projects, not for customers really but they still display really nicely. Occasionally wood, motorcycles, helmets steel panels.. and yeah a lot!

Hi from the UK! I've finally worked up the courage to attempt to follow your eye tutorial but I think I've fallen at the first hurdle, I'm painting on paper but I can't scratch/erase the highlights in. How would i add the highlights when painting on paper? Thanks Dave
@TheAIRspace3 жыл бұрын
Hi Park. There might be a long explanation .. First if I knew I were not going to allow for erasing I would begin my skin using techniques like found in this video HERE kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hsmIjMaEyde3fHk.html As for in the iris and whites you can use white paint over the dark layer to put in some texture. And come back with some colors over the top. In the whites of the eye the blueshift may not even be a factor at all. You can correct for blueshift with very carefully applied thin layers of orange transparent paint of course. All of these techniques will depend on your skill level and what you feel comfortable with. I may just quickly paint up one using other techniques. in the next little bit :)
@parklanecartman21653 жыл бұрын
@@TheAIRspace thanks for the reply, it was very helpful. I now know about blueshift! I think I'm going to abandon my first attempt and start again. I read in some of the other comments about 'poster board' but it must be called something else in the UK as I can't find any online, I've ordered something called Bristol paper which is supposed to be OK for scratching and erasing. Thanks for making these tutorials, they are very easy to follow.

@@parklanecartman2165 Bristol Board and poster board are not the same. Depending They have plate smooth bristol. Which is OK. In the UK I THINK you can get the Schoellershammer 4g illustration board. Which we cannot get in the USA for several years. Which i'm told is really very good. As for poster board. It is simply the cheap papers they use for kids projects and making signs for yard sales and stuff. It is certainly not an archival high quality art surface. But it is definitely a step above the cheapest copy papers and such. I have several followers and friends in the UK maybe i can persuade them to help you find material sources :)

What kind of paint do you use for Photo realistic work?
@TheAIRspace3 жыл бұрын
hi red. I use createx illustration paints the most. however that is because I also paint on metal canvas and papers. I also use golden high flows and a few others. depending on size of painting as well as surface. any quality airbrush paint can achieve photorealism, it all comes down to your ability to match colors and desire to fuss over the details! if you haven’t seen them look at my color mixing videos. there is a playlist on color mixing. and that is the biggest game changer getting very accurate colors. ironically this one was done transparently with a bit of winging it. thank you!
@joecole36624 жыл бұрын
Do u use transparent or opaque for the base skin tone
@TheAIRspace4 жыл бұрын
Both depending on what im working on or my general mood. But opaques are much easier to control skin tones with :)

Thank you for this! But can you airbrush white on dark colors to make them lighter? Or is it like watercolor, where you cannot paint white over the colors
@TheAIRspace4 жыл бұрын
Well yes, however the answer is much more complicated than that. Airbrushing lighter colors over darker colors usually will result in a blueshift. Which looks absolutely horrible. There are workarounds for the issue. However best practice when working with color is working light to dark when at all possible. There is a whole other long lesson in all that and much more than I can explain here. I do have a couple videos dealing with it to some degree and someday Ill have to do a long drawn out video on just those issues alone.

what paper or card is best to practice on please
@TheAIRspace4 жыл бұрын
Depends on which technique. However shiny poster board is dirt cheap and not too bad to practice scratching and erasing techniques. I early on bought a huge ream of paper from an art store, and used that a lot. But I also did t shirt type art and such. Any practice will get you used to the muscle memory control movements, but the other techniques I’d say try poster board first, before moving on to more expensive things.
