Hey Peter! Just wanted to say I have picked Tekken 7 as my first real attempt at a fighting game and found you after deciding I needed to really delve into the details and find what I need to know. I just had a game yesterday with the tall blonde character that has the corckscrew uppercut kick bullshit that sends you FLYING and she just combod me to death repeatedly because even when I blocked it, I didn't know what to do. Now I do and I easily could have won that match. Thanks so much!

💖💖I've never played Tekken until this week, but your videos were insanely helpful!! I watched the first 5 videos in your series and I'm now _consistently beating_ my friend who's been "casually playing for 15 years off and on". On day 1, he was beating me with an 80% to 20% win rate, and i was mashing buttons. By day 3, I was beating every character he played. I'm pretty sure These aren't typical results, but i had to share my noob redemption arc with someone. 😁 PS: I like the Williams sisters.

13:40 to be clear, when you say "harder to block punish", that's not because there's no input buffer in Tekken and that you need to hit your punisher within a 1-frame window perfectly everytime, but simply because the window to react is much narrower.

Really good teacher. He tells us everything. BTW with punishment training I propose in record start with any move mid or high wich has advantage on block or - 3 like Paul's ff+4 and after that death fist. Ff+4, f+3,1 Ff+4 b, 1+4 And rest of the grabs. When grab escape was good enough i changed with ff+4 or even ff+2 b (cancel) and seeable low. Once when I watched on KZfaq some of the games of American and Korean players I felt that i tapped inputs with my eyes when I saw wich arm is closer during grabs. I felt like I had sharingan in my eyes
@PeterYMao
@PeterYMao 2 жыл бұрын
It's always a good idea to mix up what you record for punishment training. Don't forget to practice with just single hitting attacks because sometimes attacks just come out of nowhere.

@@PeterYMao I've experienced that today with armor king grab WR 2+4 because... I don't know it's impossible for player do that from shortest range or it's a matter of manual. Because I couldn't do that grab correctly so I've set it up with single grab. Why bot with set it up grab can do it no matter how close to me is he??

Block Punishment is a super fundamental concept. Anyone who has missed the fundamentals such as block punishment, whiff punishment, understanding all the options of how to get off the ground, frame data on basic attacks in the game I would say is a beginner. Whether players care to admit as much is another matter entirely. However, I'm happy to say that it makes me proud players are looking to learn to play the game properly such as yourself and looking to better yourself every day :) I could wish for no more than players learning ^_^

It's a bit weird,but as im starting to try and learn this thing i am realising you have to mentally see the move WHILE IT's travelling,and wait for it to finish. But while it's travelling you are preparing your input to land just at the frame of impact.It's tricky,because lag of registering your move etc.But i think thats how it works right?
@PeterYMao

Recognition is definitely a huge part of block punishment. You can't punish something you don't know. However, another part of block punishment is trained muscle memory. The more you practice punishing something the easier and easier it will be. Almost second nature to you.

Is there any benefit in holding B for defense?
@PeterYMao
@PeterYMao 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Always hold back if you want to block mids and highs. Certain strings if you don't hold B for defense you will get hit by follow up attacks. You can test this with attacks like Bryan's d+3+4,2. If you hold B you will block the mid, if you don't hold B you will get hit by both attacks.

Hey Ying Yang. I just tested it out for you, and I ran across the same issue initially too. So here's a tip: 1) Make sure to turn on command history in practice mode so you can make sure your inputs are correct. So that you can at least eliminate this as the potential problem. 2) Try inputting the EWGF motion specifically the initial f part of the f,n,d/f,f+2 slightly slower than you might think to punish Feng's iron mountain. 3) If all else fails... try to punish iron mountain late, to the point that it is blocked. And then slowly speed it up little by little until it is registers as a block punish. Hope that helped.
