Lisa, This the best tutorial on chucking I've seen. The steps of carefully watching, feeling, closing eyes, slow down strums make so much sense! So perfect! I love the song choice!

I'm so glad! I have a private student in that age category and she is learning so fast, and doing a lot of old songs. Wagon Wheel is one of her favorite songs - which is covered in part 2 of this lesson on chucking.

Very good Lisa! I can't wait for the sequel "Son of Chuck". The way I strum I find it very easy to Chuck. I actually have my pointer finger hanging out in mid air. I hold the tips of my thumb and my middle finger together as if I was holding a pick. Down strums I used my middle finger and the up strokes with my thumb. I then am able to chuck with either the down or up strum. PS . Did you want your location posted? I see it at the bottom left of the video. I don't think I've ever seen that on anybody's video before.
@TheUkuleleFool4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Henry - Yes, I did want my location posted. Who knows what will come of it. Everybody back home knows I am stuck here waiting for my passport so I can get back home.

Yippee. I am now at the point of more often than not hitting the chuck. In fact, I would say 80% of the time I am there. The only concern I have is that it doesn't seem to be as loudly as you achieve. Next time we have a jam (early June I think when I am back in the UK), I shall choose a song to lead where I can do the chuck and ask you if I am loud enough (and probably even if I am doing it right!)?
@TheUkuleleFool2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a good plan. I know that it took me awhile to get the chuck to sound good and loud all the time. Cathy just shared an a-ha moment from the Build Me Up Buttercup lesson - When you chuck the more fingernails you have scraping the strings, the louder it sounds.
@debgent43504 жыл бұрын
interesting. You don't seem to be twisting or turning your wrist when you strum or chuck? you are keeping your wrist/arm straight and moving from the elbow? I usually strum by twisting/turning by my wrist? which is the correct way to strum - your wrist doing the work or your elbow with a straight arm?
@TheUkuleleFool4 жыл бұрын
I don't twist my wrist. With any repetitive motion it is best to rely on big muscles. The entire forearm is used. Elbow with a straight arm is the the way to strum that is going to get you the most bang for the buck. The only time my wrist gets involved is in a tremolo strum.

I totally get that. It takes persistence. I remember when I learned to chuck and I spent weeks just getting it to sound right most of the time. Get your favorite beverage, sit down and watch something dumb on TV and just chuck away for 20-30 minutes to get it engrained into your muscles.
