Nice job! If you cross-loop them in the last hole twice you don't need any white glue which gives a little stain.
@WillHodges
@WillHodges Жыл бұрын
That’s true, part of the reason for using the white glue was to demonstrate how to secure this type of thread. But you’re right that would also have worked well!

Is there any particular reason you started at the bottom of the handle and not the top? Or does it not matter?

I wonder if this shape of hole is really optimal for this stitch due to the direction of the pull... But then again the stitch won't be under so much pressure to actually tear through 😅

What length thread do you need to cut for this stitch? 4x? 6x?

Depends on several factors but for something like this, go with 4-5x. I’m thinking about doing a video on thread cutting length
@thenande
@thenande 5 ай бұрын
You can calculate it just putting the leather edges together and see the distance from one hole to a hole on the opposite side (add leather thickness too), then multiply that by the total number of holes and add some extra buffer.

@@WillHodges That's exactly what someone conspiring to encourage novice crafters into stabbing themselves with needles would say. Suspicious.

For reals though, if you don't use one you should give it a whirl, they improve accuracy and reduce hand fatigue if you're doing a lot of stitches, plus you'll never slip and accidentally delaminate your own fingernail whilst pushing a needle through.

@susantipsyhealy7655
@susantipsyhealy7655 3 ай бұрын
This is a slightly advanced stitch method, you should be familiar and comfortable with basic stitch techniques before progressing to this method. The Art of Hand Stitching by Al Stohlman is a great book to learn from. It teaches things like needle threading, the science behind hand stitching, thread length, needle choice, the classic saddle stitch and beyond. Hope this helps in your future journey in learning this craft.

You stitch leather with two needles. That’s like asking someone to explain how he cut that leather without explaining it.
