Well after watching this my thought process definitely is there its more down to practice for me then. I found my original tack i made slightly smaller to "weld" over with my finished bead as such just to try make it look continuous. Once again really appreciate the effort put in to the video

I build hydraulic power units for a living. I’m always welding in fittings to tanks. I like to do 3 tacs , connect them. It’s still tuff for me to make them look really nice but the most important thing is that they are leak proof. Takes a while to get good at these that’s for sure. Cool video buddy

A trick I discovered today to remove mill scale. Soak it in regular household vinegar. Comes right off after a few hours soaking. Beats grinding off hands down!

If you can sit the part on a block of aluminum, the plate won't warp as much

Is there ever a reason to bevel the pipe before welding it to the plate? And in this instance are the legs and the throat of the bead meant to be equal to the thickness of the material? It confuses me because some people told me that "whipping" the gun to far across can cause the weld to lose heat and penetration, you wouldnt mind clarifying a bit? Im an inquiring beginner

I think as long as you dont whip it way back, just a little youll be fine. One way to tell is to cut and etch your welds to see how good it penetrates. Doing this you can experiment instead of taking other peoples words. I know I was told all kinds of things that wasn't right in the beginning lol. Ill link you a video below on how to test your welds and you can experiment and see what works for you. As for the bevel It wouldn't hurt to bevel it to make sure you get enough penetration!!! Would beveling the edge make a difference? Pros or cons.
@ACDesignsGarage

Yes, it helps on penetration. I should of shown it in the video. My rule of thumb is if its 1/8" or thicker I like to bevel . Thanks for watching!!!!

You seem to start with a ton of stick out, do you always do it like this?
@ACDesignsGarage
@ACDesignsGarage 6 ай бұрын
Na the camera angle makes it look like a inch of stick out lol, and I was also trying to keep it up high enough so people could see the puddle while I welded. filming welding is the hardest thing ive tried lol
