Hey everyone, a brief rundown of the basic rules for ASOIAF followed by a short battle report between House Baratheon and the Nights Watch! More ASOIAF content will be coming to the channel so I figured a little learn to play video would help people follow along and generate some interest.

This is how you do an intro video. Straight to the point, easy to follow and a demo game explaining key points and notes....with a few self noted mistakes which is really good

@darksidewargaming501 Do them. If they are anything like this, you're going to get a lot of like /views. My biggest issue with intro / learning videos is that they talk through the rules but never show them.... and most people tend to learn / understand better when they see the rules in action. Great news. Oh, one game I would recommend that doesn't get the credit it deserves....Dropfleet Commander. Great game that really doesn't get the credit it should have

I'm surprised multiple people have said this. I was freaking out that I didn't have enough variety of terrain for the game I never realized that everyone pretty much uses 2d stuff only haha.

@@darksidewargaming501 It's my only criticism of the game (and that is not the game's fault). I understand how 3D terrain gets in the way game wise but it does take away from the nice models.
@kaibe5241

@@darksidewargaming501It's standard when you're always having to move them. You can actually have both - I use 2D terrain for the "base", and then put trees/whatever on it, and just remove as needed. Makes for a MUCH prettier game! :)

Great demonstration of the game. Nice paint jobs, table looks like a game of thrones TV show battle site, and good cinematic video is a good way to show off the model range. I like the zoom in on the cards, and explanation of the political zone choices. Are the forrest zones intentionally making the table smaller or are there special units that could skirmish there? Also really like that you name the abilities as it really helps convey that the game design is intentionally and successfully reminiscent of scenes/quotes from the books/movies.

Wow thank you so much for all the feedback ! The forests were intentionally set up to shrink the field just for looks. There are solo units on small unit trays that might be able to get through some trees but there are no skirmishers In game. In regards to models off tray at least.

Game has been a lot funner to play since they updated panic rules from the old and very punishing system. (Melisandre panic teams were oppressive and not fun to lose 2 bricks to panic on round 1) As well as getting rid of the omnipresent Walder Frey that used to cancel all card text. I can recommend the game, and personally enjoy a wide Greyjoy comp.

While the production and quality of the video is beyond amazing... As a tutorial it isn't a good one. It's like you focused on the former rather than the latter. Because this how to play feels like a video for people who have already played the game but are in need of a memory refresher and people who want to follow the game happening in the video without any difficulty, but that's not the case for people who don't know anything as we don't know what's happening. Still... Great video.

When charging, you have to choose between aligned 50% or 100% engage, if 100% cant be achieve then you are forced to go 50%...
@darksidewargaming501
@darksidewargaming501 Жыл бұрын
I think I mentioned alignment when preforming a melee attack. But yeah also applies to charging.
@DaMuszu
@DaMuszu Жыл бұрын
@@darksidewargaming501 But you didn't apply that rule in your gameplay :D Aligning 100% must be done center to center of the tray, if not possible then 50%. Some flanking charges didn't respect that in the video. Like Shadow Tower Spearman charge, or in 16:15 Queen's man should be align 50% and I don't think they have a room for that, since there is a solid rock to the right :) So whole charge would be invalid. Great video overall
@darksidewargaming501
@darksidewargaming501 Жыл бұрын
@@DaMuszu ah I see what you're saying, I think in both instances we determined that the charge was possible with proper aligning after the charge roll was made off camera, and when filming we did a "quick lazy" charge move. Ill make note of that however to be a bit more precise in future videos.

As a DM, I've been considering this, but the base size is larger than 25 mm and that makes it hard to use them on an inch grid! I've considered re-basing some of the minis for wider use, but that might be hard to do without ruining the nice look

Way better than Game of Thrones Seasons 7 and 8. Those were a travesty. This tabletop game does the books and world justice. A Song of Ice and Fire is the only medieval fantasy setting that truly show the brutality and realism of Medieval politics and cruelty.
