Anyone can learn to play piano (especially rock/pop piano by ear) My husband, John joins me and we take a look at a C major chord and an F major chord and how they fit in the song, "Where The Streets Have No Name" by U2.

Aimee, I’ve been away from your channel for a while, and revisiting your videos is great. This one although many people would say is very obvious, is brilliant in its simplicity and really gives the key to playing more intuitively by ear. Thank you, I hope you and your husband are well in these rather troubled times.

It’s so funny how humbling music is for many very intelligent people... I was in a music appreciation class near London taught by the concert pianist for the symphony...and everyone just needed the “easy credit”... most had near perfect GPA’s ... but you had to learn a couple of songs on a recorder and pretty much everyone failed except some of us musicians... there was a huge outcry and many complaints sent to the Dean lol nobody wanted their GPA tarnished... lol it was one of the easiest college classes I ever took but to non musicians it was “ rocket science”.... you’re lucky he doesn’t play much because you’d be fighting over the piano... teach him the drums... one of the easiest to learn and be able to jam right out the gate... this was more entertaining ....I’m sure he’s very confident away from the keyboard lol

HI Aimee.....I have a question for you. The first tune you are playing are the chords to Walk on the Wild side, which has a fabulous outro solo by the great British jazz saxophonist Ronnie Ross. So the chords seem to be C to F but he seems to be playing a C scale over the C but a Fminor over the F with a flat A. The song seems to remain in a major tonality..that is Cmajor and Fmajor but the solo adds tension to it...well have a listen to it and see what I mean. I'm not sure why it works though...any ideas?

That was great. John killed me! Just found you recently and I wondered if your husband was musical and what he played or did otherwise. It seems he is fairly new to Piano like myself, although I do play Bass. I haven't had time to really look through your entire catalog of videos yet but hope you either have some or can make some vids putting together some beginner - intermediate chords/voicing changes in your Jazz flair that are easy enough to learn so that we Newbies can sit at a Piano at a party and sound like we know what we're doing while playing a little background music until we catch someone's attention! (Or recommend some you have already made) Great work and I look forward to spending more time on your vids. It must be such a pleasure for John to have you filling the house with music. How did you get together if he isn't involved in music like yourself? Cheers!

Hi Aimee, I just got my Roland FP30 piano and are wondering if I chose the right piano for a beginner. The Keys feel quite heavy as they are fully weighted and it got me thinking should I have bought a keyboard like instrument where the keys have less travel and are much lighter?? It sounds a little dull with the built in spkrs but I can change the brilliance and contrast or something like that and can use headphones or a amplifier and there's midi to trigger other instruments too.... I haven't read the manual yet though. Pls can you let me know if I made a good choice with the fully weighted keys and whether I should I put stickers on the keys to remind me of what notes i'm playing. My teacher has said I shouldn't use stickers but to start from scratch using my memory and that I absolutely must learn to read music from scratch also. He gave me a Beatles song book going from easy to hard starting with' A Little Help From My Friends' to Strawberry Fields and 'I Am The Walrus' the harder songs. Any advice would be great:))
@AimeeNolte6 жыл бұрын
I think you made a good purchase. The weighted keys will feel more like a real piano which is a good thing. I’d recommend either using some $99-ish headphones (audiotechnic maybe ) or an external speaker however because a keyboard with a built-in speaker is usually not a good idea. Consider this one: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1378786-REG/avante_avaa12_achromic_series_12_2_way.html?ap=y&c3api=1876%2C91442437562%2C%2C&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8MvWBRC8ARIsAOFSVBUj6OxhBu8l3zUL1wpKAYT5YEvJbSzP4QFeCORv7PKS7Qtmw8iLqiEaAmokEALw_wcB

If you play for 10 or more hours a day... like I do... sitting up straight is no trivial instruction... it determines the life of your back and neck... all the way down to your fingertips.... it’s fun to crouch down real close to the keys for effect from time to time but keep that back straight!!!!

Hi Aimee, greeting from Ireland. I am an adult (40+) who has been learning how to play the piano for the past eight months. I really enjoy it, but as you can image it's a case of 'baby steps and not kangaroo leaps'! Recently, when I asked my piano teacher for something new in piano she introduced me to basic Jazz piano improvisation, which I find amazing but a little confusing. Any suggestions for (adult) beginners like me as how to best learn jazz chords, improvisation etc. Have you any You Tube clips in this area? Thanks, Norma
