I'm pushing 30 and I've never played on an organized team. Everything I know was self taught or taught by friends on the ice growing up at my local rink. These videos are perfect for someone like me. I am just starting to get back into the game after years off the ice and I can already see the difference in how I move and how confident I feel on the ice after just a couple weeks back on the ice. Thank you so much for these videos!!

I played organized hockey as a kid for years but only really learning how to shoot now in my 30s with videos like this. I intuitively knew my coaches didn’t know what they were doing but this is hard evidence. It’s amazing how much of positive impact KZfaq can have on kids if used well.

Agreed. About 10 years ago I realized this when watching some videos about learning how to pitch in baseball. Was never really into baseball but I remember little league and wanting to learn how. Turns out, learning proper techniques and mechanics weren’t just a “natural” ability like the coaches said. They just had zero idea or zero desire to teach it. With vids like these, a lot of people can learn at least the basics of how to be competent in specific skills.

Super helpful - feet pointed TOWARDS the net, we don't skate sideways! I hope I can transfer this to the ice. Just picked up the game at 39 and looking to play for another 30 years if I can!

if you watch him actually shooting at beginning of video, his right skate does a semi c-cut (out to the right at the beginning, finishing pointing left in a soft c shape) and by the time he's released the puck his right toe is pointing left at about a 45 degree angle. It's just the natural "blocking"/"loading up" motion of the front leg like a baseball swing. At the start, yes, they're pointing forward, not sideways.

Can you use the end position as a measurement as to how far into the stick your second hand should grip? Basically doing the move in reverse just to figure out where on the hockey stick your hands go? Or do they move throughout the shot?

Great with a tutorial. Just confused me a bit, that looking at the shots taken in the beginning, the right hand is near the hip after the folllowthrough. And when watching the followthrough part, it is mentioned “we dont want it here” near the hip... but should be up high ??

I once used to be like you, bite the bullet and buy the expensive gear when you can, trust me it’s so worth it. the difference in the feeling and technology from a 60 dollar stick vs a 300 dollar stick is insane, you can really feel the difference in quality when stick handling or shooting

i usually buy the cheap composites for almost always under a 100 bux in freedom dollars. look for stuffs that is old stock/never sold, you can usually get those cheaper.

I with you buddy. I always played with wooden sticks as well. I finally went with the Bauer composite and wow what a difference. Price wasn't awful(not great though) got it for 80$ like the one guy said look for older models you can get for cheaper. Good luck.

Since you made this video, are you still teaching kids to lean on their stick? If so do you really think this is good advice? Stick flex comes from the shot, not from leaning or pressing on it . See some of the analysis that Train 2.0 has done.

I can shorten this up to about 15-20 seconds. Bend your knees and pull the puck back, transfer your weight from back foot to front and follow throw high if you want to shoot high and low if you want to shoot low. Your welcome🏒🥅

Pretty respectable breakdown for 15-20 seconds, but there is a reason that this video isn't that long, and if you do just this, you are missing out on so much power
