I’m 35 and so I’m a bit late to start ice skating and it’s so helpful for me to have some videos that give such easy to follow drills. Also I’m in Australia so we don’t have that many coaches and your explanations and structure is really making it easier for me to build confidence. Thanks a million!! You make gliding backwards after your two footed turn look easy. I lose speed after my turn, because my edges need working on.

1:08 Hugging the circle is a cute way to learn the arm position. I forget sometimes, so this helps! :)

Oh yay! You are doing basics levels videos! I am in adult basic 5. The frustrating part for me is my left side is so much weaker than my right side. For example, i can do 3 turns counter-clockwise and backward cross overs counter-clockwise, but barely or not at all going clockwise. Tips to strengthen and gain flexibility for our weaker side would be great! Another thing i struggle with is the two foot turns clockwise. I have to slow down to a stop to turn. Counterclockwise is easy though.ugh...🤦‍♀️

One foot slaloms (or powerpulls - depending where you’re from) and really emphasis correct technique.... 👍🏼👍🏼⛸⛸

Just curious, why do you teach high free leg extensions for begginer skaters when typically they don't have enough core control, flexibility, balance to hold their leg that high/long until more advanced skills have been mastered? Just curious

How is forward slalom in Basic 3 different from Curves in Basic 2? I just watched your Basic 2 video, and the bonus skill (Curve) in there look quite similar. Thank you in advance!

Amazing video! For the forward pivot is the foot (that isn’t moving) on the blade or is it the spiky bit at the end in the ice?

When I do the moving forward 2 foot turn I end up kind of doing a swizzle instead. What am I doing wrong?

I am fixing to take learn to skate lessons and get into figure skating. I am a male 37. Excited to see what happens. Love these videos. I can watch these and play with this stuff in public skate and be ahead of the class in the next lesson and hopefully advance quickly. I am also an equestrian and ride English doing eventing and know how to snow ski, Will any of that make figure skating easier or help me advance quicker than the others that don’t do that? I see it uses the core and most of what riding does but never figure skated.

Hi...first of all thanks for all the great videos they help me a lot~ I'm from Germany, skating isn't as popular here so we barely have coaches and no classes so I have to learn everything on my own. I follow the US figure skating basic skills program so your videos are great:)) I'm currently in high school, after school I'd like to go to the US for a few months or a year and work and learn figure skating properly with a coach. I've been looking at the Learn to Skate USA website but I don't quite get it how I would apply for lessons... For example, do I have to pass some kind of test if I want to apply for example Basic 4 rightaway or do I have to do all other classes before, even though I know those skills already? Do I have to apply for classes at the rink or on the Learn to Skate Website? And I don't know a ton about the different living conditions around the US, so would you recommend any place specifically where I can work and skate for a while? Thanks a lot :))
