5 ай бұрынIn this video, I will demonstrate troubleshooting techniques on field coils in my T1 Reading Steam Locomotive and my MPC Amtrak Alco. I will replace a field coil from a donor motor in the later part of this video to show some simple techniques to gain access to the field coil to drill / tapping the motor studs for reassembly.

Outstanding educational video Ed. You took on a project that not many of us actually would even tackle. To top it off, you took on the challenge of rewinding the field coil, and it came out perfect! Most of us would rather discard something like this and look to replace it. Yes it takes time, but can be done. You have to look at it mentally as another fun project, get inspired, and just go ahead and try to do it!! Great job my friend. Tom

Thanks Tom, I wanted to challenge myself further with motors. I hope people will want to attempt this repair because how many spare motors are left that are able to run. Agreed you have to see this as a fun project rewinding anything can be discouraging. Thanks for watching.

Thanks Frank. I got the Supco M500 megger from Amazon, it was just under $100. If you're looking for something a bit budget worthy, there's the Digital Insulation Resistance Tester model BM500A. Check it out, I'm sure it does the same function as mine just digital.

Have you ever rewound an American Flyer S Gauge reverse unit coil? They can be a problem on a steam engine.
