Super Video Nils. Sehr detailliert! Wenn man sieht auf was für Details du achtest wird mir immer wieder klar warum du in LFS in der EPS damals so dominiert hast 👍

I'll add my method but I think it no longer applies (you'll see why): 1. Drive around until you get the flow of the track. 2. Use AI, one car, set to 90 and follow. 3-7. Practice. 8. Use AI 100, 1 car and follow. 9. Profit. --- Learning with the AI was good on some of the original tracks, but on some (newer) tracks, like COTA, they are just too slow. If using this method, you'll see where you can take more speed. You'll reach the point where you can easily beat 100 AI. Then you'll go online and you'll see people lapping 2-4 sec faster. Observe, watch your replays, Practice. But newer ever use AI as a practice for online races. AI is predictable, online is chaos. Drive safely.

My workflow is almost identical, but replace step 2 and 8 with recent Hotlap Videos and try to analyse corner by corner what they are doing differently. It's still a slow process, but gets you much further in terms of laptimes.

@@Str3amCor3 My post was just for learning the track, not how you become fast at it. AI is good in early stages when you don't know the track by heart. By following the AI you see "average" racing line and corners where the AI is faster so you know you can take much more speed. But that's the end. Now, you know the track, and if you want to go faster, you have to use different methods. The most overlooked and easiest tool is replay. Go for lapping session and then watch your own replays. You'll see where you can use more track, how close to the apexes are you,... Then, In my opinion, start using onboard youtube videos.

@@alpha007org I think it goes hand in hand. after your first step you should already know the basic flow of the track. Then, when you practice, you'll want to learn the racing line, optimal braking and turn in points. And then it is way better to learn from fast Hotlaps than from the AI. You'll manifest the trackflow while doing so even further. I agree that the replay is a very powerful underused tool.

Great video, thanks! I'm personally try to remember a new track converting It to some sequence of the types of its corners. For instance Monza is going to be chicane-chicane-right-right-tripleS-right. Yes, It's quite minimalistic but it works for me. Once I remember the configuration of the researching track the next step is going to be the breaking references that's right. Unfortunately It's not a secret that not every time we have the distance plates and we have to find some points outside the track of look at kerbs or something like that. 90 degrees corners could be quite tricky and dangerous on the street circuits like Macao or Monaco cause there are we don't have kerbs on the exit and any wide space to be able to make a mistake and also in my opinion apexes may be quite changable keeping in mind that different tracks have different width of the kerbs like in Spa we try to use all the kerbs on the exit in most corners if I remember right so without that width we should have chosen slightly different apex and the breaking references isn't?
@SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer Жыл бұрын
yeah the track width indeed plays a major role. if the track is 100m wide, you can take a 90° corner flat out probably :)
@happyrabbit7944
@happyrabbit7944 Жыл бұрын
@@SimracingPopometer Probably I meant a kerb width but a track width also important for sure. My idea was if we have some "restrictors" on the exit of some corner let's say the sausage in the 1st corner in RBRing our apex will be a bit late than if we could use all the kerb there. Same thing in Spa. In the last corner probably chicane we may use all the kerb+astroturf that makes our exit really fast. Btw would be interesting to know more about other basic racing components like start, overtakes, defence tactics etc. Thanks.

Which side the meter boards are on never struck me as having meaning. I always just assumed... hell, I don't know _what_ I assumed. Whatever it was, it was wrong. So, thanks for that tip -- some of us are clearly still ignorant of things that should be basic knowledge.

Honestly your most informative video yet! How would you compare catalunya t4 vs. spa ravage? I noticed most people seem to double apex in spa, and not catalunya? I've also see you say to just hug the inside on spa.
@zachdoran10
@zachdoran10 Жыл бұрын
turn 4 at catalunya is much longer of a corner and a double apex for ravage means you can setup no name and the run into pouhon to keep gaining time
@zachdoran10
@zachdoran10 Жыл бұрын
also, ravage breaking is downhill but i think you might be talking about t5 at barcelona because that corners is a little more similar to ravage
@DarkDMD
@DarkDMD Жыл бұрын
@@zachdoran10 hmm, i thought he said the longer the corner the more likely to double apex so wouldn't that mean double apexing for catalunya which I don't feel like I see in some of the very high level driving. Is the difference really just about setting up no name?
@zachdoran10
@zachdoran10 Жыл бұрын
@@DarkDMD yes because not only do you setup no name but you will carry way more speed the whole way back down the hill. the main reason you can hug the inside at barcelona is the speed of the corner and have way more grip
@SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer Жыл бұрын
there's always an exception, but its not uncommong to also drive T4 barcelona as double apex. the issue is that the corner is opening up a lot and over a long time, so that coming to a 2nd apex doesnt necessarily make sense, cause you're then not utilizing the width of the track on exit. turn 5 also both works, might differ per car a bit. you can double apex and late-single-apex it.

I was very surprised to hear you say that you don't usually need to coast, but for me that was the thing that helped me to stop spinning, ebcause almost every time I hit the accelerator on my 488, the rear end starts spinning away, so I started coasting, straightening the car and then hitting the throttle, but here you say to stop coasting and it throws all out the window. Like, I don't even understand how can you start being on the throttle so early in most corners at hungaroring, if i do that, I'll spin immediately.
@SimracingPopometer
@SimracingPopometer Жыл бұрын
don't get me wrong. you said you coasted before braking. don't do that. coasting after braking for a short while is fine. but it should be kept minimal. also it's not about just accelerating right away again, it's about braking deeper up until the point where throttle is almost already possible again. if the car spins though, did you turn off TC? it really shouldn't just spin unless something is wrong
@bikerboy3k
@bikerboy3k Жыл бұрын
@@SimracingPopometer I just use the setups I bought from coach Dave and leave them as they are and yes usually tc is pretty low, but I blame myself first rather than setup tc etc, like so many of my friends drive just fine yet I spin, so I must be the problem. But Tha k you very much for clarifying the coasting dilemma I had.

I'm wondering why everbody brakes at 150 at Monza T1 or at least telling that. I lift off the throttle only and start braking at 100 or even a bit later and easily get the inside curb. Seems to work in every game as well. Maybe I coast too much in ACC🤔
@SimracingPopometer

theres no need for lift and coast normally. so you definitely coast too much there :)
