Brilliant video. Thank you. But here’s what’s gonna happen: I’ll play the right hand pretty well, the left hand really well and when I put them together it’ll be like watching a sheep try and use an iPhone. I’ve been trying so hard since I was was eight years old. I’m forty something now and still can’t do it.

Thanks Dude! Have you checked out my videos on developing hand independence? It can be a little challenging at first but well worth the effort. I have about 4 or 5 videos with different exercises. I've got a bunch in this playlist kzfaq.info/sun/PLGcfKKbLRnz8_vCD4I50AcQKwq9sOaPMD

Mr. Migliazza..never fails..for clarity, accuracy, and attention to detail..he's second to none in my opinion..and somehow he still manages to make the critical issue of timing shine through with clarity. Still hoping he decides to puit together a comprehensive, beginner to pro TOME and C.D. series with this same quality.

Thanks Alex! The "Tome" would be a huge project for sure, but I may get to that sooner or later :-) Would probably require input and collaboration from several people, which could also be fun to make sure we don't leave anything out 😛

I cna play far more complex pieces than this but am still realy struggling to put boths hands together on this one. can anyone give me some tips on how to level up to this? Like, I for example can even play strde style pieces. but I can't even play the opening bar on this.
@thearthurmigliazza
@thearthurmigliazza Жыл бұрын
Hi Nathan! Let me ask, how did you learn the more complex pieces? If it was by sheet music, then keep in mind this will be an almost COMPLETELY different skill set. This will be you *creating* the music rather than learning to play it. The hands need to be functioning independently. Check out the lessons here, all free of charge. www.schoolofboogie.com/thebasics Also the first link in the video description is a more step by step tutorial by one of my students. That may help too. Best wishes,

@@thearthurmigliazza I did learn by reading sheet music. and basically learning the two hands together was almost like learning an entirely separate piece from learning the right and left hands indvidually. thanks for your help! I have hard time working with each hand independently. I thought I had goodhand independence because i could play counterpoint, but only if I rehearse the both hands together meticulously. looking forward to getting better!

@@thearthurmigliazza okay. i went to your beginner course and did the lessons up through hand independence part two and now I can play the first riff! thanks for your help. still needs some work to clean up, but feel like I made great progress and getting better idea of how I can build my improvisational skill, etc. I'm really more interested in the Fess/Dr. John stuff. Do you recommend I just start working on the New Orleans style lessons instead? these pieces seemed a lot simpler than the new Orleans stuff so that's why came to them. Definitely will be a patron once I figure out the path.
@thearthurmigliazza
@thearthurmigliazza Жыл бұрын
@@nathanreiber6819 Great! I recommend getting some simple blues piano stuff under your fingers first because the LH patterns are so much more straightforward and you will be able to make progress quicker and gain confidence. When people struggle with blues and then jump into new orleans before getting the hang of it they tend to get frustrated.
