Catch and release. Outstanding work gentlemen. Their message of conservation and responsibility is crucial. Like the young man said, I really hope this opens up a dialogue, and inspires others to enjoy and respect the environment.

If they caught it in a net instead of putting a gash in it's face from a hook, then I would agree. Why are catch and release folks so in denial about the fact that they wound the animal? It could get an infection and die.

I don't think I've ever seen blood on my catch and releases.. They used wire to hold it and pull it in. Those gashes are deep. This was fare from a clean catch and release.
@johnread7404
@johnread7404 Жыл бұрын
@@MsMyhouse If that was the case there would be countless sharks floating along coastlines dead from so called 'gashes in their faces'. The fact there aren't says that catch and release works with minimal distress to the animal. In fact I'd wager the shark is more likely to die from the increase in stress hormones than from a point of a hook. I imagine you have never been fishing in your life as most fishing equipment nowadays is designed with the welfare of the fish, and it's safe release in mind. From small coarse fishing tackle, right up to big game fishing tackle. The tackle might look fearsome and large here, but that's because its scaled up to safely land the fish it's designed for. If the fish was to break the line and be stuck with a hook in it's mouth or worse towing tackle around, that could be even worse, so it's important that people fish with the appropriate balanced tackle for the species they are aiming for. I have even seen first aid kits for fish and hook penetration points sold in fishing shops, containing anti bacterial wipes and lotions. Without the fish, the catch and release fishing industry doesn't exist. There is a huge incentive to protect and look after the livelihood of the stock.

There are several being tracked in the Gulf as well as the Atlantic. Ocearch reports three white sharks have "pinged" recently off the coast of Florida - two in the Gulf of Mexico and one in the Atlantic. That's just the ones that are tagged. The one they caught could have been Maple, who pinged March 6 about 43 miles southeast of St. George Island in Florida's Big Bend area. Maple is considered a sub-adult white shark. She was tagged Sept. 14, 2021, off Ironbound Island, Nova Scotia. She was 11 feet 7 inches long and weighed a hefty 1,264 pounds.

@bluemarlin8138
@bluemarlin8138 Жыл бұрын
@@magnumxlpi It’s a bit of a myth that they don’t like warm water. White sharks are everywhere except for the very warmest and very coldest seas. We just didn’t know about it until recently. They migrate down to Florida in the winter from the northeast US and Canadian waters. Some of them head around the peninsula into the Gulf and Caribbean. It is believed that hundreds of years ago there was a thriving white shark population in the Caribbean and Gulf, because there was a huge population of Caribbean monk seals. There were reports from the 1500s of sharks that were much bigger and more dangerous than all the native sharks and were also found in Spanish waters, which pretty much means they could only be white sharks. But the Spanish nearly wiped out the seals, and they were extinct by the 20th century. This drove down the white shark population in the area as well. I’m sure they have still been here in small numbers the whole time, but the recent rise in white shark numbers and the increase in the numbers of people fishing and diving with portable video recorders (as well as satellite tracking of sharks) has greatly increased, so we’re more aware of their presence now.

@bluemarlin8138
@bluemarlin8138 Жыл бұрын
@@ASurfgirl White sharks evolved to survive much worse injuries than that. Read up on what they do to each other during mating. A little cut from a fishing line is nothing by comparison. These guys are always very respectful of the sharks they catch, and every shark I have seen them catch swam away quite well. If they didn’t, then we’d be seeing a bunch of dead sharks washing up along the beach, and we don’t. It’s illegal to target great whites, and it’s incredibly rare to catch one in the Gulf of Mexico. They were careful to leave it in the water and get it released quickly. They didn’t do anything wrong.
@ASurfgirl
@ASurfgirl Жыл бұрын
@@bluemarlin8138 I know exactly how sharks mate thank you but that IS still in the water. Sharks like great whites need constant movement over their gills to breath if they want to be RESPECTFUL then how bout not doing this at all? You don’t use hooks and gear like that to get dinner they were trying for a shark and a big one. You would not necessarily see sharks that were killed from irresponsible fishing practices “wash up” sharks sink it’s rare they wash up it happens with living this sometimes in the conditions on their deaths and tides and winds us the type of animal they are are just right mostly animals sink and are eaten by other marine life and since their bones besides their teeth are cartilage it rare they’ll be anything remaining at all

So glad to hear they don’t fish while people are in the water. Wish other fishermen would have the same manners. It’s so annoying spending so much for a beach vacay only to have someone fishing and attracting sharks when you’re trying to swim.

Trust me, don't go in the ocean or gulf of Mexico. If you do, you risk shark attack!

Absolutely release them. They are in their own environment and should be there.

It’s not rocket science. Of course where there are fishermen fishing, there’s always gonna be sharks. Last time I checked, they are a type of fish. Are they not?! 🙄This is the reason why I don’t swim near fishing poles and fishing boats. There should be designated area/s for them to fish & not near the shore especially where little kids are swimming or just fetching a li’l pail of water from the shallows just to build their sandcastles. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Releasing an animal after that amount of an ordeal and damage to mouth and throat is not a “nice thing to do”. We have no idea if this animal will survive. Hammerheads almost always die after being released.

I have seen some BIG SHARKS off the gulf state pier. I assumed they were tiger but now I'm thinking otherwise.
