Watch Part 1 here: • Learning Swedish in 7 ...
How to learn Swedish in 30 days? Is it possible to become fluent in Swedish fast, in one month? That was the question I asked myself at the start of this language learning challenge. I tried to learn Swedish as best as I could in 30 days, with a conversation as a test on day 30 with a Swedish native speaker.
This is the result of the challenge.
What language are you learning or do you want to learn and why?
Thanks for watching, I appreciate you.
Sven.

I am trying to learn Swedish and I am, but I keep forgetting stuff. I use Duolingo and KZfaq videos, as well as Google Translate to teach myself words and phrases that I personally want to know. I have a Swedish boyfriend and am planning to move to Söderhamn to live with him. He taught himself English, but his family doesn't speak English. I've tried Swedish tv shows with English subtitles, but was unable to grasp which word was which. If I could really learn Swedish in 30 days, that would be awesome.

As I native Swedish speaker I was really impressed with your pronunciation! An idea for a fun short video you could do when Swedish becomes more comfortable is maybe to watch a video in Norwegian and see if you can use your Swedish to understand it. And also if you want a fun Swedish tonguetwister to try, here’s one. “Sju sjösjuka sjömän sköttes om av sju sjuksystrar på ett sjukhus i Shanghai”.

This is really interesting and we love that you are doing this! Europeans can generally speak many languages because all the countries are so close together. It's similar in Southeast Asia where people can speak many languages. Wedee is currently learning Bahasa, but only using duo lingo. We could probably expand on it and start working on conversation because that is the ultimate goal. Thanks for sharing your experience. Love when you guys were just having the conversation in the end! Great video.

First of all, I want to thank the author of the channel for making this beautiful and useful video for us! Many people are embarrassed to speak a foreign language if they have no speaking skills. People are afraid to hear criticism from others in their address. It all comes from having a psychological complex - to make a mistake. But, after all, he who does nothing is not wrong! In Yuriy Ivantsiv's workshop "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign language" states that we need to talk as much as possible: with yourself, with the mirror, with inanimate objects, with children and with pets. Find an interlocutor in real life or online. Talk without shyness. People won't care how you speak. They understand that you are a foreigner, as long as they understand you. They may even acknowledge your progress in their language and compliment you. However, always be prepared for criticism of your speaking skills. If you have the will to speak, you will gain an interesting interlocutor to consolidate your knowledge. Everyone is strewn with mistakes - don't be afraid to learn from them. As the Latin wisdom says, "walk and thou shalt not go astray". In the book "Polyglot Notes" by Yuriy Ivantsiv an entire chapter is devoted to the development of spoken language. Here you will find many useful tips and each student can choose a technique that suits him or her best! I wish you all the best of luck in your language learning!

Been in a similar situation. Living in Germany and speaking german at a quite good level. Learned Dutch from youtube and by reading stuff on LIngQ. Started learning Swedish this month intensively. Hopefully I can reach a conversational level in a couple of months. So basically if you have German and dutch under your belt, read and listen like a madman and have a 30 min conversation every day or every other day. Review missing vocab and repeat the process.No gimmicks required xD. I am in for a study group challenge if you are down for it! Peace!

@@SvenVee A good B2 is always the target goal. That usually requires getting familiar on a number of subjects of interest plus some general knowledge. When I go to Sweden to visit a friend of mine I hope that I will 'live' in the language with little to no English. What about you? Are there any future targets or next videos on 60 days coming up? All the best! :)
@SvenVee
@SvenVee 3 жыл бұрын
B2 is a really good goal man, would be awesome to get to that level. In what time span are you hoping to get there? I'm currently doing a big overhaul on my video production business as well as moving countries, so language learning is a bit in the back burner for now, but I am still planning on making a 6 month video at some point when I get there (albeit not linearly 6 months after i first started learning Swedish). 😁 I also want to learn Spanish and make a video about it at a certain point 🙌🏻
@juanspada3904
@juanspada3904 3 жыл бұрын
@@SvenVee with german and dutch we have the vocab advantage so the focus even from the beginning should be listening comprehension/pronunciation and speaking with natives. If I can keep this pace for the next 3 months I think I could be close. I will start having 1-on-1 sessions after a couple of weeks. I will see how it goes since combining Software engineering with languages can really leave you energy deprived. Spanish should be easier I guess. Checkout LingQ for spanish content the library is quite extensive. (I am not sponsored or payed from them, I just happened to use the tool a lot). Video production in different countries sounds cool by the way! xD

7 can be pronounced in two ways, you are trying the hard one. :-) And "sjuksköterska" is two word "sjuk" and "sköterska". Might help to do that in steps. But if you really want a challenge, try "tomten" as in that small estate(?) in English and "tomten", which is Gnome or Santa in English. But the difference in pronunciation is really, really small. Like "stegen" as in the ladder, and "stegen" as in the steps. Any ways, it looks like you are able to make a conservation, which is great. "Samtal" is about two people talking, AND listening.

@SvenVee
@SvenVee 3 жыл бұрын
Your original rude comment had nothing to do with constructive criticism and just assumed falsehoods about my intentions and process in this challenge. Before I started, I did in fact only know the 3 words mentioned consciously. Did I find out similar words/sentence structures whilst I learned the language? Yes of course, I did. But that's a given for anyone who spends about 10 seconds researching languages from the same language family tree (Germanic languages, roman languages etc). As for your backhanded comment about calling Nate drew a "legend", that was very obviously tongue in cheek and I even acknowledged the criticism he received for his video. If you don't like the challenge or think it's unimpressive, then fair enough, but that was never the point of the video anyways. I don't make these videos to show what a good job I did at any given activity. It's about documenting a process I go through and sharing the results of sticking with something for a given time. Everyone has their advantages and disadvantages for any given activity/skill/etc. I don't think there is ever a good enough reason to be putting people's efforts down and shitting all over someone's work like that. It says more about you then about the person you're verbally attacking. But by all means, share the video on reddit, if it makes you feel better somehow. I don't mind. I'd rather have a constructive discussion first though. Feel free to dm me on Instagram or mail me at Hello@svenvee.com

@amirsalah7789 3 жыл бұрын
@@SvenVee First of all, I highly appreciate your reply :) I know my original comment was too critical of you. And I think I went overboard with it. For that I'm sorry. But if you've been in KZfaq trying to actually learn a language from scratch you'd know the feeling. The title of the videos should have been "how much Swedish I can pick up as a German speaker in X days". The truth is your experience is 100 times easier than someone who doesn't know a germanic language, and you do definitely sell the idea at least subconciously that anyone can do it you only know 3 words and you learnt so much in X days. If you wanna know what I mean, try speaking with a Japanese native after 7 days of learning Japanese. I think these are just things to be mindful about in the future :) but that being said, congratulation on your journey and achieving what you did. I will not share anything, I admit I was just impulsive with my comment :)
@SvenVee
@SvenVee 3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you saying that and engaging in a discussion, thank you. I understand the frustration and embrace the criticism of my title. I am definitely also not a fan of titles that only give out a half-truth or just plain clickbaiting. Unfortunately, this ecosystem we find ourselves in rewards that because it gets more people to actually click and engage with the video (point in case here I'm guessing). I would love that to be different (as would literally any creator I've ever talked to), but if I want my content to be viable on the platform, I have little choice. I try to minimise it, but my livelihood is literally tied to everything I put online. I am self employed as a videographer/filmmaker/photographer and sometimes get paid leads from the videos I post, so if I want that engagement and the eyeballs on my work, I have to play the game KZfaq / Google / social media have made for us. Apart from that, I also think there are languages that have a generally higher difficulty degree than others. Japanese, Mandarin and Arabic are examples that come to mind, because their structures, alphabet and just general language system is vastly different to anything I am used to and are hard to master even for native speakers to some degree. That's just to say that I'll do my best to give a more nuanced conclusion in my videos at the end (big fan of nuance, to the annoyance of my close friends and fam sometimes lol), but of course I'll be forgetful and imperfect in my striving towards holistic conclusions sometimes, as well as - again - being limited in the time I can spend on conclusions because of viewer watchtime and the attention span of people that browse social media (myself included). I also, maybe naively so, hope/assume that viewers are generally filling in the gaps on certain bits of information that aren't explicitly mentioned or covered, or just that they don't assume any ill intent in my making my videos. Above all else, I do (maybe vainly so) hope that my videos generally motivate/inspire/inform or invite to have a discussion. Thanks again for engaging in a conversation with me, I do really appreciate it.
