Hey hon 🙂 A little tip from someone who has been in ballet since I was 4 and taken 5 college anatomy classes, try to square up your hips, straighten out your back leg, and point your feet to avoid injury. Doing splits with a flexed foot #1 really hurts, and #2 will slow your progress down. Stretching without squaring your hips will overload your hip flexers, causing unnecessary soreness. And training your body to split without straightening your back leg will be frustrating when you do touch the ground just to realize that your leg isn't straightened and you aren't actually properly touching the ground. A bent leg split is known as a "cheater split." Otherwise, this is really impressive and I admire your dedication! And keep in mind, some people never will be able to get their splits because of the way the head of the femur sits inside the acetabulum (meaning the structure of some people's hips don't allow for that type of movement.) If you don't ever get your full splits, it may be due to your hip anatomy, so don't beat yourself up about it. I hope these tips help! ❤

What does squaring your hips mean exactly? I see this under every video about the split but I am not sure I understand (English isn't my first language). Does it mean to keep your hips straight instead of turning to align them with your legs?

*on squaring the hips and other techniques* This is something I practiced throughout the process but didn't mention in the video because i thought i'd discuss it in part 3. When i took the progress photos and footage i often turn to face the camera, which takes my hips out of the square position. Lots of commenters are calling me up on this, but in reality i was making an effort to square my hips, and experiment with different positions when doing the routine. I'm not perfect though of course, and sometimes my legs slip out of the correct position, but i will focus more on this going forward. I've tried, and put into practice a lot more techniques than shared in this video, i've heard of pretty much every trick in the book. But I didn't want to go into too much detail in order to keep the video short and to the point. This 30 day challenge was just an experiment, but I will be continuing my journey with more techniques which i'll share in part 3.

Hun. I'm commenting again. Honestly, give a try to do it the way I told you: bend your front knee and keep back leg straight. Then bounce and bounce. As an ex-gymnast I CAN GUARANTY you that you'll get the split, honestly.Give it a try, please. You'll see the difference. ☺

@@ayrenbethancourt9379 this is probably the worst advice you could give someone. never bounce in your splits!!!! that’s the easiest way to pull a muscle and backtrack in progress

I would suggest taking the advice of those commenters rather than saying you try to square we can see from all your videos you do not square your hips. Find some good videos on how to square your hips follow kinky sweat or danni wilks because your only gonna cause injury if you don't take the advice 😊 also people don't mind a longer video so doing incorrect form to keep the video short is not helping also to the viewers that are also new to split training it's not good for them to see this and not realise about square hips. Best to take a little longer to explain rather than incorrect form for a shorter video

Hi Isabella :) I thought I’d give you some tips since I’ve been doing ballet for almost 10 years now. It seems like your body and hips are tuned a lot to the side instead of forward which makes it actually a lot harder since it’s almost like doing middle splits (which is usually the hardest for most people). I know it can be difficult but I really suggest you try to square your hips a bit more and try to straighten your back leg. I’d also suggest to support your splits with your hands on the ground on either side, it can actually help you get a deeper split because it’s supporting your body weight and you can focus more on straightening and squaring your legs. I really hope it helps! Keep going, you’ll eventually be able to do it!!

Hello! I'm also in a journey to get the splits and I'm very excited about your series to keep me motivated! I just wanted to tell you to be aware of your hips when doing the splits! It seems like you're not squaring them as you should (It kinda looks like you're doing a mix of a front split and a side split as your body kinda turns to the side). I've been practicing yoga for 2 years now and that really helped me being more aware of my body and learning how to better carry myself throughout the poses... Maybe that can help you as well! Wish you the best of luck with this challenge ❤️

I just wanted to say thank you for motivating me to try and get the split. I’m so close today. On the bed, I could do a proper split, but that’s because my foot is pushing into because it squishy, but on the floor I’m pretty close. Edit: I was finally able to do the splits.

This is really interesting. I've always wanted to do the splits and I've tried it several times over the years (mostly in my teens). The one time I was really close to getting the splits (around 4-5 centimeters above the ground) I pulled a thigh muscle because I wasn't warming up properly. This forced me to take a really long break and I just never got back to it. I tried to go back to stretching a few months ago (I'm 24 now so it's slightly more difficult) but again, I wasn't consistent. I hope you'll succeed, I'm looking forward to another video!

This was very encouraging to watch. Over the past two years, I've gone through numerous 30-day split challenges, and have encountered numerous peaks and troughs. There have been many times where I've wanted to give up and many times where I've had to overcome numerous plateaus. I have often found the lack of consistency in my splits the most frustrating. I have touched down on the odd occasion, but on other days I can't regain anywhere the near same depth. However, a few techniques that I've found have really helped me is tension and release - I think this is similar to PNF which other people getting their splits have recommended - effectively you're contracting all your muscles while pushing into the floor and then you slide (or release) while holding the tension. I also saw a physio who said that my lack of strength training could be my missing link - you can't rely on flexibility alone, you also need to strengthen your joints. I've started doing simple exercises to strengthen in my knees and I've been seeing great results. I've found the 30 day split challenges to be little more than a fad...the people who can do it are generally people who have been able to do the splits before but have since lost it. Plus many of them aren't doing it with the proper form. Persevere and keep going. You might not do it in thirty days, but you will do it.

I turned 30 last week and decided to do a 30 day split challenge too! I am doing Blogilates' with additional stretching as desired. It's a true 30 day challenge with no rest days, we'll see if I can keep it up! I am VERY inflexible in the hamstrings so there's no WAY I can get to the splits in 30 days but it's the commitment and routine I'm focused on!

Finally somebody who doesn't reach the goal in only 2 weeks or 30 days and has a realistic journey. I also tried to stick to it and did stretching regularly for 3 months and still didn't archive anything. I progressed then hit a plateau and then fluctuate but never really making any significant progress. I get very jealous of the people who reach the splits in 30 days...

Last time I did this 30 days challenge, first day my splits were pathetic and 30th day I literally almost got my right split and 3-4 cm for left. Then I stopped. 2 years past. I tried again and found out I was only at the level of my 3rd day lol So you gotta keep doing it even if you got them. You motivated me to start this challenge again.

My gym trainer, who works out all the time, recently said, she was only able to do full splits, when she was stretching EVERY SINGLE DAY for a YEAR. When she stopped to a few days a week, all the progress stepped back. For anyone who can't do their splits: some people have a natural flexibility and easier time, some have to work really hard. Don't beat yourself up! As for me, I can get quite low, but also only with a warm up : D I only touched the ground when I was young (working out on my own), then all the progress stepped back.

I'd recommended checking out flexibility coaches since there's a lot out there with either drop in online classes or programs if you want to try out different flexibility techniques. Just holding stretches never personally got me my splits. I think I'm finally at a point where I'm consistently getting it, but I needed to try out different people and methods until I found what worked best for me.

Yes! In my dance and gymnastic classes we did flexibility training with lunges. We alternated long and short lunges. It also helps if you tighten your muscles while you’re in the lunge then relax. I don’t think the legs should be all over the place. Controlled exercises will probably serve you better than pillow mountains. The focus should be on flexibility and strength.
