It's been four months since I've started to learn Mandarin Chinese with Rosetta Stone - here's an update with how I've been getting on including a montage of me speaking it whilst 'cooking' dumplings and even SINGING my favourite Mandarin song... how did I do?

Omg!! I got so excited when you mentioned "The First Half of My Life" because I started watching it a few days ago! I'm currently on Episode 14, what about you? I find that listening to songs in Mandarin is so helpful as well! If you could recommend some other dramas and songs you like that'd be great! I can recommend some as well too! :D I've also been learning Mandarin as well through the LingoDeer app (and some others) so I really enjoy these videos you're making! The only downside is that I don't know anyone who speaks Mandarin so I haven't spoken at all with someone. Please continue these videos in the future because they're so helpful!

I’m near the end now! Isn’t it so so good?! You’re the only other person other than my family who knows about the show! Ooh my mandarin songs are super old school but I listen to Jay Chou quite a lot too! I watched Empress of China with Fan Bing Bing which was SO GOOOOD. Purple Hairpin with Raymond Lam and Michelle Ye too! Let me think of a few more! Would love to keep making these videos! And great to hear that you’re learning it too! We can practice together ☺️

I use Viki(.)com to watch my dramas so I just watch whatever seems interesting and has English subs. It seems that a lot of people are also watching it there too and yes it's quite interesting haha! Thanks for the show recommendations! I don't know what types you like to watch but I'd recommend "Chronicle of Life" and for something else more light. more happy "I Am Not an Elite (我不是精英)" would be good. The ex-husband (Lei Jia Yin) and the mother-in-law from The First Half of My Life are also in it too but the show is completely different :)

Ooooh I haven’t heard of that site before! Going to go on and start watching a bunch of shows! Have you found watching them and listening to music helps you with language learning too?
@StudyNotepad

Supply late reply but yes watching shows and listening to music does help! I'll find my self randomly saying phrases from a past episode I watched and then I'll wonder what it means, go straight to google and once I've figured it out, it's stuck in my head haha!

I like how you use the traditional method of adding cold water between cooking your dumplings. But just to let you know, if you're cooking frozen ones, you should add them to cold water initially and bring them to a boil :) Anyway great video and awesome Mandarin skills

Well if you're going to do them, you might as well do them right eh! I just started using Lingodeer (free app) to learn Chinese Mandarin, but would you say it's more worth it to pay for something like Rosetta Stone?
@dejashu
@dejashu 6 жыл бұрын
Eeeeexactly!! Ooh, how are you getting on with the language? I've never used Lingodeer so not sure how much they differ but I do appreciate being able to learn offline, practise speaking skills and love the diverse range of topics on there! Seems much more like 'real' Chinese as opposed to textbook phrases I'd never use!

Well I just started but I have to admit it's no where near as scary as I imagined it to be, it's actually quite fun learning the tones etc. Also, after seeing that there's actually some similarities within how we use intonations and grammar between the languages, it is encouraging. Okay thanks for the feedback and best of luck :)
