You seem confused about this boat. It's more than just speed. The ability to trailer easily, sail flat and in shallow water, beach, no need for a dingy...and you can sail fast, even single handed. You need to sail one.

The outriggers are called amas. I grew up sailing beach cats and trimarans and it is really hard to give up the speed for a monohaul. This boat is made for camping/sailing for a weekend and being able to hit 3 or 4 islands in a weekend whereas a monohaul you could mabey do 2. Also they boats do not get knoed down like a monohaul they stay more stable that is why there is not a big saftey factor. If you guys want to sail beach catamaran we will have to hook up, I'm in baltimore

Honestly not sure why I'm subscribed anymore. These boat tour videos are much lower quality than the videos that made me subscribe, and while I get that they need to keep posting I am not at all interested in quick looks inside of boats. Either give us full in-depth tours (like actual review channels do), or try to find some way to show us actual progress on your own boat.

Folding trimarans tend to be expensive - the loads they endure require a lot of build quality. Also, nobody mentioned a big advantage: they don't heel over, so when a gust hits upwind they instantly ( being very light) go faster instead of just wallowing and spilling the contents of the shelves all over the floor.

half a million for the Dragon fly 32, I knew it was expensive because of all the special features but wow. I guess I'll stick with my plan of maybe building a Scarab 32 if I ever get around to it.

they are called amas, not floats or outriggers, im sure others have already pointed this out, but this bothered me for some reason haha. personally if I could get a brand new sailboat without money being a limitation(with money considered i prob. wod go with a marlow-hunter 31), I would absolutely get the dragonfly 32 evolution as my primary choice. the 28 you all were on here is a little too small for my tastes, but the 32 has enough room for a minimalist for myself and the design is more advanced, with new style amas that create more buoyancy and speed. trimarans are for a very specific type of sailor, if you are looking for space while underway not for you, but for someone like me, where I prefer to get to wherever it is I want to go as fast and smoothly as possible, a trimaran is, imo, the best choice and a dragonfly is the currently best of the builds out there on the market, again, imo only. the difference between the 28 and the 32, not only in sailing characteristics, but in down below accommodations is quite noticeable fwiw. cheers.

I wanted to ask some questions that may or may not get answered. They are genuine questions out of pure curiosity. 1. What kind of security measures are taken when sailing? What do people usually do? I've heard Project Atticus hint at some. 2. I can't find anything on what started you two sailing. Did you grow up sailing, learn it as a hobby, ...? 3. What about the wind turbine? When the sun doesn't shine, you have to charge the batteries. Usually when it's cloudy the wind is blowing. Well, thanks for posting. I enjoy watching.

Cool little Polynesian type ama(?) racer. I've seen a couple on Lake Travis outside of Austin, but larger, in the 30-foot plus range, I think, but just not my thing and not all that familiar. Again, another great video and even better when you find boats like this one that is outside the norm because it becomes educational as well. I wish I had more time, I'm on the road, but hopefully, someone with better knowledge of these vessels will educate folks on their history and use. Kudos! Another great video, guys!

You folks need to review a Corsair 36 foot trimaran if you are looking for both quickness & nice interior. The Dragonfly is a very good build Scandavian trimaran but also very pricey for what it is. If I could afford either I would opt for a Corsair.

“Outrigger” usually refers to the whole assembly of a stabilising float and the arms by which it is attached to the principal hull. The float is usually only proportioned to provide some stability and is not a principal hull. As with many (most?) nautical terms there can be many different definitions depending on locale, traditions and misinformation. I include this comment.

Nice review. However, you seem to not quite understand this boat. It is actually pretty specious for its length if you factor in the width. Its interior is ergonomically brilliantly done. It’s cockpit is large compared to 28ft monohulls. It is suited for way more then just day or weekend sailing, depending on the size of your crew. The argument that it is not suited for very long stays on board or even live aboard, doesn’t make any sense, because this goes for any 28ft boat. For that purpose they obviously lack storage space. Variable depth, sailing in shallow waters, beaching, drying out, trailering, easy system to self-set your mast, upright sailing and less fuel consumption make it a very comfortable, independent, safe and versatile high performance companion, if you know how to sail a multihull. Moreover, this 28ft tri is unsinkable(!), making it suited for longer crossings and you’ll arrive at your destination 3 times faster! (Also a safety feature). Therefore it is not overpriced, it only has a high price compared to polyester monohulls. But you really shouldn’t be comparing the two at all, because they are totally different entities, a tri has a lot more to offer and this comes at a price; the amount of engineering, the stiffness to withstand the tremendous force on the amas at 22+ knots; there is no comparison with monohulls. Furthermore the build quality is far superior to the build quality of serie build polyester monohulls nowadays. So don’t compare apples with oranges if you don’t understand apples.

WoW Very Very Fast Boat!!! How ever just like a Cat a Trimaran have's a nasty habit of rolling over in heavy seas....and it will not right it's self.. The mast is stepped on the deck, not good. However it looks like the mast might be able to swivel to keep the the main more aerodynamic for better sailing... Nice the out riggers can be contracted for easy docking.. I would really like to see how the mainsail is connected to the mast that is a must for your viewers that could be potential buyers..

The floats can be called outriggers, floats, amas. Most people use the polynesian names: ama, aka, vaka for floats, arms, hull. Nothing weird about Dragonfly. They're superb Danish trimarans. People do cross oceans in them. Labor rates in Denmark are much higher than Vietnam, South Africa, China, etc.

Just like with a car, the faster you want to go, the more it costs. Personally, I think it is brilliant, but something like this is not for everyone. They provide just enough creature comforts for it to be tolerable as a weekender, but the whole point of the thing (and most of the budget) is in making the sailing performance epic. With that shallow draft, it actually would be a perfect boat for the Chesapeake Bay, or pretty much anywhere where you don't expect big seas. I don't think I would want to ride out a big storm in that thing, but for shorter trips in moderate conditions, let 'er rip!

John Cusick well this boT sails so well you will not use the engine for anything but in and out of harbor , or if motoring in a dead calm you can close the hatch and just open it for occasional adjustments. scott lampe , hi , it goes along with the US prompting term like ‘sailboat’ instead of yacht which has incorrectly become the term for mega-rich-motor-yachts ( motor boats) . Looked it up on Wikipedia and Polynesia never had trimarans according to them so those names probably don't apply. Yacht is just harder to spell than sailboat. I say let's take back that name!
