People who speak generally kazakh have a strong kazakh accent while speaking russian, usually. People who are used to speak russian usually speak the same way as russians in russia. Kazakh language is a turkic language, similar to turkish though. There are lots and lots of kazakh people whose first is russian, by the way, especially in the big cities like Astana and Almaty and the north of Kazakhstan. Southern part generally speak much more kazakh.

@@UnQuacker , в СССР воспитывали советского человека, не русского, а именно советского. Это разные вещи. Сейчас англофикацию даже вести не надо. Хотите чтобы ваши дети добились успеха в жизни - платите за изучение английского и образование. Нет денег - без шансов на карьеру. Классовая система вернулась. В СССР построили систему образования с нуля и одну из лучших в мире и сделали её доступной всем жителям, без единого языка за те короткие сроки, это просто не возможно было сделать.

Try, Steve. At first I was overwhelmed, but it gets easier! :) Learn the alphabet, then watch shows/movies with subtitles, start reading, use some iTunes university courses/KZfaq, meet some Russians(I believe there are some websites for ppl who want to speak with native speakers of different languages via Skype if you can't find any Russians by you lol) and maybe if you can, go over there. ;-)

I still wonder why Russians and Koryo-Sarams don’t speak Kazakh but Russian and English. Also that some Kazakhs never spoke a word of Kazakh(Элізабета Тұрсыңбаева among all cases) and one Russian born from Kazakhstan told me that most Russians never studied Kazakh... but he knows рақмет...

Luqman Nazery Languages are independent of countries. The same way as we don't call Easy English recorded in Canada "Easy Canadian". People in the video speak Russian, it doesn't matter it's Russia or Australia. For most Kazakhs it's a first language anyway. If you speak Kazakh, though, no one stops you from recording new series for Kazakh learners. If there aren't any yet, perhaps there were no Kazakh speakers interested in.

there actually is a EasyKazakh lesson already, but the host's from Mongolia lol. she's native kazakh though. and also, yup, the majority of people especially in a city like Almaty (the biggest city in Kazakhstan) speaks russian. But it doesnt mean we,kazakhs, dont appreciate our language (kazakh) - there are just over 160 nationalities living altogether that speak Russian fluently whereas Kazakh is not that widely spread . but people are working on it
