I'm totally new on M-PC, and just switched over to Onyx. I believe it should be possible to control Onyx directly from MIDI without ShowCocpit. I have been able to trigger cues from MIDI, but it's a jungle to learn when you don't have any pre-knowledge. So far, I've been able to trigger cues, but I'm not able to control any programming buttons and parameters. I would really appreciate if you could make a short video to explain how to use MIDI directly into cues in Onyx. A reply here with some details and tips is also appreciated off-course :) Thanks for your great videos by the way. I'm learning a lot by following you :)

That is correct - you will only get cue triggering without an outside app like showcockpit! I will add that video to my list of things to do! -David

I have lc192mini dmx.the midi of my sequencer only works if i hit play (running) and all notes make in the sequencer trigger bank 1 scene 1. Did i pushed somthing wrong? If i select on the dmx bank 2 scene 4 example, if i hit play and i hit a note or a programmed note plays, then it jumps to scene1 bank 1.

Does anyone know if its possible to use this controller to 'busk' a virtual song let's say and record those midi changes into a DAW and then have them play back to the rig at a show? Reason I ask, is I pre program all of our lighting queues with dmxis and playback to click and backing tracks. But this would be so much easier to program a new song if I can just open my visualiser, program the song 'live' and it record all the midi ready to play back at a show? Hope that makes sense

Awesome video and hopefully this is what I need but please let me know if there's anything better or if this is the right thing. I use the MPK249 with SoundSwitch software and DJ808 with serato and most times the 4 faders on DJ808 are mapped correctly on SoundSwitch but will just not work (only once) and the SS team said the following: Windows does not allow two pieces of Software to be controlled by the same MIDI controller. There are 3rd Party MIDI routing softwares that allow you to achieve this. Any help is much appreciated.

That is correct, check out the software "Bome's MIDI Translater", which is a good one that I believe can achieve what you need. Then write to SoundSwitch and beg them to add the functionality for multiple MIDI controllers! Other programs have it :)

@@LearnStageLighting Thanks for the reply. Based on their feedback that functionality exists already but for Mac users so they say it's a Windows problem. I'll check out that software but would love to know more about how all this is supposed work in a future video perhaps. What do you think of loopMidi by tobias-erichsen and Cantabile Lite?

Question, so If i have Ableton open and have mapped my scenes via midi when i press a button, can I simultaneously have DMXis open and use the faders to add in extra effects?

Hi, I'm new to ONYX and all of this. Can you make a video showing how to manipulate ONYX with Ableton instead of the MIDI controller? instead of the MIDI controller, using automated tracks. Is it possible? thank you for sharing knowledge!

I don’t care too much about midi mapping but I just bought a KK1024S console and I am interested in using midi triggering. Do you have any thoughts on this or suggestions for a good midi triggering software that may help me on my KK console?

Every console is different, and I literally know nothing about your specific console. Unfortunately, MIDI triggering/mapping probably isn't available in your console, but check the manual to be sure.

Is it possible to use an APC MINI in this fashion? I ask since they are 100 bucks new and would probably be good for small mobile DJ setups.

Totally. Of course, check with your console and make sure it has the capabilities to do MIDI - but yes, the APC MINI is very popular for MIDI lighting control

I haven't read all commentars so sorry if i ask somerhing that's already been asked before: is there a way how i can map a midi controller that i can set the specific dmx-channels of a fixture with the faders of a midi-controller? For example: lets say i want to create a new scene and i dont want to set the dmx-channels on my screen but with real faders. Can i map the faders of my midi device to control the dmx faders in edit mode? Thanks for your support!

Hey Mike, Every console handles MIDI integration and programming differently, so this is not the simplest question to answer. :). Most modern consoles do NOT work like this, but some do have workarounds. For example, in ENTTEC's DMXis, I can do this, and if I need to separate scenes out, I can use a function called "channel masking". The problem that you'll run into quickly is that modern lights use many channels, and often it quickly becomes impractical to have so many faders. (Which is why most consoles no longer program this way - DMXis is one exception!). Thanks! -David

Is this workable for a Hog4 ? I just want to be able to either send go commands, or is Qlab better?

It really depends on what type of show you are doing. Q-Lab is more for theatre cues, adding a MIDI controller is more for running lights live for music performances. Before you buy, make sure you have everything you need to unlock MIDI in Hog4 - I'm not as up-to-date on the Hog platform, and so you may need to have a console or PC widget to unlock MIDI - not sure!

Good evening David. I and Neal Roby are banging our heads on how to change the mode on either the APC40 and APC40 MKII. We have bought BOME, I really don’t want to have to learn another software. We are running windows 10 on a 24” touch screen all-in one computer. I can’t tell you how many hours we have spent. Can you solve this issue???

Man I am so frustrated with this. I bought showcockpit and it wont work. I have been trying to figure out the OSC stuff but it wont work. I have watched your video with OSC and show cockpit and that didnt work wither. Please help me

hi ,one question .i have the enttec its fine for me i can doing my job easy.can i set my presets programms sending to bcf2000(behringer) faders?one preset one fader?and if how its the steps.thanks

It depends in which software you use with your enttec. ENTTEC D-Pro and other packages like ONYX can do this, but dmxis cannot

I have a Martin M1. I am currently running onyx. I have purchased Showcockpit. Now How do I make it all work. Do I have to network my devices or can i plug the Akai APC40 directly to my board. Please help. I am missing a simple step and I cant figure it out.

You need to run ShowCockpit on a PC, and run Onyx there networked to the M1. Plug the MIDI controller into the PC. Both myself and ShowCockpit themselves have tutorial videos here on KZfaq as well :)

This is one of the reasons I really don't focus on Hog4 - unfortunately, they don't allow MIDI to be openly used with their software in this way.

@@LearnStageLighting It is very bad for Hog, I have tried to connect with ma2 through cockpit - ok! But I do not understand why Cockpit do not see all buttons of My midi controller: all faders, all encoders ,and 2/3 pad buttons . SO , cockpit have no reaction on 1/3 pad buttons and all around programm buttons lik Velocity , Manual, record,change layer and soos

is there a script for the APC mini? I see many using this controller in ShowExpress but when I try it wont recognize my midi in.

I don't think so, and even the script for the full size APC-40 doesn't work well anymore :(

Its there a "better" way to use a Midi Controller??? I mean, its there a Standard on this or just depends on the person??

As for "what" to map to your controller - there really isn't a standard. I usually set it up to be *mostly* playback. But, if I am in a situation where the MIDI controller is the only physical hardware that I have for the console, I do make it a mixture of "programming" buttons and playback. That's probably the best thing about MIDI controllers - you can make it whatever you want, in whatever format you want!

I dont have the Akai Apc40, i recently bought a Novation Launch control XL so i can use it as control surface with DMXIS. So i use the faders to map into the Dimmers of each light and Pan and Tilt, and all the colours i map them to the knobs. This Midi controller has 8 different User Setting that i suppose could work as pages. Would you use it in a more practical way, how would you use it?? I am new at this, being trying to figure some things out hahaha but dont know if the work flow im using its a better way to use it

@@leonelrojas1516 I would recommend keeping it simple. 1 page, map what you need, and if that doesn't feel like enough to you (as you use it), then expand to more.

You would have to use some kind of program to offset the MIDI notes of one of the APC-40's, then it would be able to see it as (2) different MIDI devices. I believe "Bome's MIDI Translator" may be able to do this.

Followed this link - github.com/sproshev/apc40-mode-win-linux/releases. downloaded the file. Made sure Java app was up to date, and I get nothing. What could i be doing wrong?
