Least Bittern Vocalizing

While exploring a beautiful spot in Florida's Mallory Swamp I heard several Least Bitterns vocalizing rather quietly. One seemed reasonably close and in fact climbed the reeds within just feet of where I stood. I'm grateful for that bird's patience and persistence as a very cooperative subject!

The chorus of birdsong adds a truly glorious dimension to the beauty of nature, in my view. (And so I'm grateful too for the owls and all the nightjars and such.)

Great video! I’ve never seen a least bittern and have only seen an American bittern once down in the Viera Wetlands. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, I'm glad you find these birds beautiful too. For a long time I had wondered at the source of that call, and was glad when I finally learned its source.
