Have watched this video before. I just received the Angelus 12 pack of neon and remembered you had said something about it. Glad I went back and rewatched about the white primer. Thank you for mentioning it. I would love to see you do an in depth on painting. Perhaps successful tests and fails. Pitfalls to avoid etc. After tooling vegtan I oil it then stain. I finished a butterfly and oiled it lightly. No stain. Would like to try painting it with the neons.

Alfredo Acosta No problem. The paint applicators are a great tool to add if your not already using them as well.

Do you find that some colors' viscosity are far more thin than others? I find that pink, yellow, lilac, and white are so thin that I can't keep them from making an absolute mess with the Henna bottles, but red, green, black, and orange are far thicker and easier to control...

On Angelus: have you used the Preparer and Deglazer? What is that for? Is it necessary before applying paint, like a primer? Can't get the retailer to tell me. Want to undertake some leather repair / restoration on some car leather seats. Not a pro, here. Any comment appreciated, thanks.

alek morgan We use the acrylic paints, and use regular white, and matte white.

The paint in the squeeze bottles. Is it thinned down? It seems like it flows a lot better than it does for me.

It is not thinned down. Some prefer to thin, and at times is necessary for lower frequency used colors due to settling.

Anyone know the difference between regular acrylic paint and “leather acrylic” paint? I wanna paint some leather shoes and idk if that’ll be a huge difference

Angelus is used in the sneaker world very commonly.

@@axeandawlleatherworks1454 that didn’t answer my question if there’s a big difference between “leather acrylic” vs non-acrylic type. I bought the leather version just to be safe

@@alexg9064 hi, Romak. I'm not an expert, but I do work with leather as a hobby. I painted leather with regular acrylic paint, and it came out pretty nicely; it's important to know I used high gloss afterwards. As fae as I know, there isn't a huge difference. I think the leather paint could be used in layers, since regular acrylic paint can peel if you use too much

@@christopherfeatherley I also tried regular acrylic paint, higher quality, and that stuff just won't budge. I am curious if I want to use unfinished vegtan as base and then paint on top of it whether acrylic paint would be resilient enough for wear and tear afterwards or if dyes are the only way to go due to the fact they are soaking into the leather somewhat (obviously the finish would be translucent, not opaque as with paint)...

As far as i can tell the acrylic dries almost immediately. I've been experimenting a little with wood graining as a feature and it works quite well. I'm currently embellishing the color of the leather to more suite my needs, works well in spray pencil gun.

Love y'all videos. I have a question about y'alls steps. Is this correct? 1. Tooling 2. Stain 3. Deglazer 4. Paint Is this correct. I know on the paint it is more than just one step lol

Cody Keilers Thank you! We are mainly using finished leathers, but the steps are similar. Give or take a few. For doing the dye/finish yourself, the process you state is spot on.

Saw your first video sponsored by Weaver which prompted me to check out other videos I am now a subscriber along with others I'm sure. I started leatherwork almost 8 months ago fell in love as most do so you two will be a great addition to my video playlist to help me educate myself my question is finally what are you using to get those 1-inch letters onto leather are you using a carving knife to cut them in or do you use stamps

robert pinto Thank you very much! The 1” letters are indeed stamps. You certainly could cut and tool them, barring the projects scope🙌🏼 This allows you to choose fonts too if it’s for personal projects
