Very nice job. I do leather works and I tried painting leather with acrylics. It turned out great. I made a portfolio for my wife’s water color paintings. On the leather cover, I tooled on stems and flowers. My wife loves Hummingbirds so I carved one large and one small hummingbird into the design and colored them accordingly. It turned out beautifully.

OLD LEATHER SMITH here, I just finished a radio belt 4 a fireman beside painting the letters red w/gold outline I Buck stitched in SILVER ROO both the short and long, client was very happy with the outcome. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

What would you recommend for leather care on something that's been painted? I'm planning to paint some boots and am wondering if using my regular leather cleaner/conditioner routine is a bad idea with the painted finish? Thanks for your video this is very helpful!!

How does the paint do over time? Im thinking of using it to design my lifting belt but was wondering if the paint crumbles easily when the leather is bent or agitated

I've had requests for painting mats I make for trading card games, but I'm worried the cards sliding across the top or rolling the mat may flex or damage the paint. Is there any sealing top coat I can use to protect the art? Also, is it better to tool the design or can you free paint and not have a raised surface?

So what is the best way to correct a mistake if made? if you were to get a drop outside of where you want it? or is it just game over and restart?

i tried using the squeeze bottles and i found that the paint likes to drain out even when not squeezing, kinda like the fource of the liquid coming out pulls the inner material out in a stream do you ever run into that problem and if so do you have any advise on how to fix it thanks

Thank you very much for the tips. Question. Can you use angelus paints with airbrush on larger areas. I am making leather book cover and I wonder if I could use these prints with airbrush?

We can’t speak directly to the airbrush use as we’ve never personally done this. I would suspect with a thinner(Weaver offers the angelus 2-thin), this is possibly achievable, but I don’t speak from experience on the topic.

@@axeandawlleatherworks1454 Correct, follow the Angelus 2-Thin to paint ratio and you can airbrush large areas. I use that technique often for white and gold fire helmet shields.

Have you done any oil tan? Does it hold as well as as the veg tan?

Beautiful paint work. Q; Do you always use a white base coat to achieve true vibrant colour or do you just go with final colour? Thanks 😊

The white base coat is not always necessary due to the thin coats prior to the final heavy coat of the standard colors. However, whenever using neons, metallics, or any of the “special paints”, it is always best to lay down a neutral base, or a base of a similar color when working with the “special” paints.

Please tell me what kind of color do you use for painting on leather?

I have Vegtan that hasn't been colored do i still need to deglaze it ?

We would still recommend using the deglazer just in case there is any type of glaze or top coat. Depends a little bit on the tannery the leather is from but the deglazer will help the paint adhere the best.

Is deglazer absolutely necessary or does it just allow the paint to last longer or get absorbed into the leather more

We do recommend using deglazer as it prepares the leather for the paint giving better results in the end and long term.

Did you dye your leather black before hand and if so how long did you allow it to dry?

Hi Shannon, The leather in the video was a pre-dyed English Bridle leather. If you'll be dyeing the leather yourself, just make sure the dye is dried completely.
