Wow! I got my Blast as a gift from the army while I served in my country in 2006. I had it with me ever since. Once I had to send it to get repaired I got a brand new unit back because they said the model was discontinued and there were no more spare parts. I was so sad because the engraving was lost. Knowing that I would have no more repairs for it I decided to buy a new model and bought a Signal because I work a lot in the outdoors. Was looking for a review on the Signal on your channel when I found this video on my beloved Blast. Thank you for making this video, I didn't know that I needed it. I'm holding my Blast right now with a smile on my face.

The Blast was my first Leatherman I got. I still love it, just like a Rebar with the scissors. My collection has to have one. I thinks it's very underrated. Has most of the tools you'll need. Would be nice to have an awl in it.

I have the blast and it's fantastic. Used it for so many little jobs around the house and even cut carpet with it and the blade is still sharp. I bought the screwdriver bit accessories and I use them a lot.

I’ve had one of these since 2005 and have kept it in my daily driver since. It’s a great multitool, not too big and has everything I need. My original Leatherman tool from the late 80’s is my EDC.

I just picked up a Kick,Fuse and a second Blast this week. I have many top end Leathermans,but I like these simple,not more than you need tools. They have always been my favorites.

I have a couple of Blasts which I picked up in a clearance sale, and yes, there are definitely things to be said for it. Overall, I prefer the Rebar, because of a) its thinner body, b) it seems to have a sharper file, c) it has an awl and d) better plier head, but I can see that people who want scissors or an eyeglass screwdriver might prefer the Blast. Definitely worth grabbing one if you can still find them!

Thank you for the good reviews ~! The LEATHERMAN kick Fuse Blast 2004-2012 is a undulating plastic handle that provides a comfortable grip and a comfortable grip in the winter. Thank you for introducing my most beloved Blast, the LEATHERMAN classic model inside open tool method with various functions ^^

Great review! Looking forward to getting my Blast. I have two second gen Waves, one 2014 one 2017. The 2014 has the same plier head as the Blast in your video. The 2017 has the less fine teeth like your Wave in the video.

My first full sized Leatherman was a Fuse, which is in the same series as this one. I still have it. It has a few less tools than this one. Keep up the great videos.

The blast was a very good tool , very capable and I carried for 8 years , it is now in the motorcycle tool kit , better than the wave , to day I carry a 300 super tool , but the blast is smaller and better being a smaller unit easier to carry ever day !

I kind of like the old Zytel handles on those older models as opposed to what they do today.

The Rebar is a very good tool and fantastic bang for buck. My biggest issue with it is hand flex or deflection when loading the pliers. It can make modulating the plier pinch uncomfortable and under less control. TX TC, is it a non noticeable issue for you? On the plier head design and your note of Rebar’s being much improved and more robust. OK the Rebar looks bulkier, but does that translate to stronger? The pivot diameters look the same. The anchor sections that mate to the handles look maybe even bigger on the blast. The plier tines or fingers cross sections look similar. The blast has more of a radius, which in some circumstances can reduce stress concentration. If anything the Rebar’s plier heads look cheaper to make with less processes and cheaper from a warranty perspective of replaceable cutting blades. I’ve ranted before about replaceable blade pros and cons and poor performance I’ve had and who wears warranty costs. In either case admittedly the cutters are no basket cases as they certainly do work. BTW great presentation again thanks.

I’ll have to look more closely at the plier designs. To be fair, I’ve always noted a bit of flex in all of the medium duty multi tools when subjecting them to hard use. Hence the reason I use the Surge. I have to subject my multi tools to harder than average use all the time. I’ll try to evaluate these plier designs a bit closer to see how they perform under heavier loads.

I recently bought a Blast on Ebay. I'm tempted to do a tool swap but I don't know if I want the Blast or the Rebar to be the host. lol The Blast is a little more comfortable but the Rebar is a little thinner and fits my pouches/sheaths better. I really like the longer implements of the Blast as well. Regardless of the host, I think I'd want the same layout of the Blast, but swap the straight edge blade for the Rebar's serrated (to compliment my pocket knife) and swap the can opener/wire stripper with the awl. Obviously the other outer edge tools would be whatever version the host came with. If I went with the Blast as the host, I'd have to try the Rebar's plier head in there. I love the Rebar's pliers.
@txtoolcrib4 жыл бұрын
I wonder if those pliers would fit in the Blast with it’s longer implements.

@@txtoolcrib I just swapped them and they fit perfectly! They are the same dimensions everywhere that matters so the sides don't rub: Rebar/Blast head swap imgur.com/a/Nm2Yw4u

On your Leatherman playlist, I failed to see a Leatherman Pulse. Would you do a vid on this great tool. I have carried the Pulse EDC for 14 years. Used the heck out of it. Good tool. I recently acquired a knifeless Rebar and have carried it for almost 2 months. I miss the diamond /regular file on the Pulse. I think Leatherman should put this file in all their multitools. Haven't used the Rebar enough to make a worthy comparison............. Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately, the Pulse is one of the very few that I don’t personally own.

I've got my beautiful G10 Charge +, and it's great, except 1 problem; have you ever had a Leatherman where the springs wouldn't return fully to the closed position against the cam? It's like there's something catching thenspring, or they were overextended. This means the knife "safety" stays engaged unless you open the blade away from the handle. The ultrasonic and lube didn't solve it, was hoping you had some tips before i sent it off to Leatherman. Thanks!
@txtoolcrib4 жыл бұрын
I’ve never experienced that problem before. I think I would send it in for a replacement if I were you.
@GabeMacDonnell4 жыл бұрын
TX Tool Crib thanks, thats what i'll do. Especially since I've got a rebar awl to install, I don't want to mess up the warranty on a defective . I asked Leatherman about, they said to try cleaning and lubing it, and if it didnt fix the problem 100%, they'd make it right.
