While the description says "tool only" it does come with one each of a bi-metal kzfaq.infoUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI and HCS blade plus an adaptor plate for non-DeWalt blades. Wish I had known that before I bought the blade kit, but oh well. Since I already have a DeWalt drill, charger and batteries there was no need to buy more of those so this was a great deal.There is one other consideration. DeWalt does't sell the depth guide separately so you need to buy the three parts which make it up -- the N275350 block assy, the N275341 metal rod and the N278801 knob. Amazon does sell all three.

As a huge Leatherman fan, I don't see why other fans thought the Charge would perform like a million times better than the Signal with your specific kinds of tests. It's cool that it did do well in this test though. The wood saw is an identical part, the can opener is identical too, and neither have a great way to pull nails. The Signal has an awl, and a thicker blade. The Signal's pliers are more robust but still have the same wire cutters as the Charge pliers. They both use the same fairly weak liner lock system for the blades. Yes the Charge TTI has significantly better edge retention on the main blade, but I think it's complete overkill when competing against Victorinox's extremely soft (though extremely rust resistant) steel. The Leatherman SuperTool 300 and Surge are closer to the size and weight class of the Swisstool. They both use the best can opener design that Leatherman has ever made (though the Victorinox one will still cut faster if you put your shoulder into it). They have one of the best awls Leatherman has ever made. The Surge (especially the bare stainless steel version) has some of the best Scissors Leatherman has ever made, but it still uses liner locks for all the outside tools including the blades. The Surge comes with one of the shortest wood saws Leatherman has ever made, but it's compatible with any T-shank jigsaw blade (including the 10-inch Bosch T-shank wood saws). The SuperTool 300's locking system is a lot more robust, though I'd still never baton with the blade locked in place. If I had to baton it'd be with the blade slightly folded, disengaged from the lock.

My experience of breaking several Leatherman tools using Normally VS my original Victorinox swiss tool that is well over 18 years old without being replaced should speak volumes to the public. Do not buy Leatherman products, they are crudely finished, Prone to Breakage and rust at the first sign of moisture in the air. No I am not a fanboy of brands in general but Victorinox has never ever let me down when I really need a reliable tool by my side that will ask nothing of you apart from the occasional sharpen.
@Juneof1944
@Juneof1944 Жыл бұрын
you're totally right about craftsmanship, in general. Victorinox is all mirror finished. all tools have their own leaf spring and locking system (3 tools don't open when you try to get 1 out). the general tolerances are way tighter. etc etc. i had the original Leatherman Supertool and some other old smaller model, about 25 years ago. they were way better quality than the Leatherman's of today, which are super crude. however, even those weren't anywhere near the quality of Victorinox. as far as breakage goes: yes, i've broken several Leatherman tools, whereas the Victorinox will tend to bend before it snaps, and can usually be bent right back. however, i think, at least with the blade, this is somewhat of an unavoidable tradeoff. the Leatherman's snap instead of bend because the steel is harder. harder steel holds an edge longer. however, i carry multiple blades, all of which are regularly sharpened. so, that mitagates the above for me. Victorinox is the one i trust and carry.

The charge has a few features that I’ve found useful in my everyday life not featured in this shootout. The serrated Knife makes quick work of cardboard and rope, and the gut hook on the back is great for opening packages without damaging contents as well as removing zip ties and tape from sensitive cables and wires. (It’s one of my most used tools). The Scissors, and files (both rough and diamond) can also be used cut and manicure your nails if you don’t have a nail clipper. The Diamond file can also sharpen knives and tools. If you unfold the half of the tool that doesn’t have the screwdriver while the screwdriver is out it created a handle shape that makes screwing and unscrewing things much easier. Cheers! enjoy your new multi-Tool!

Hi, I think these two tools are different categories. Charge/Wave is smaller and lighter than the Swisstool. It's more like Swisstool vs Surge in my opinion. Other way both are great tools and I think it's up to the user to choose a brand. Fun video guys. Cheers 👍

Before even watching the video: I own several versions of the Swiss tool, as well as the Leatherman wave and Leatherman charge TTI. The charge is my daily edc, and has been for 5 years. Its head an shoulders above the others in quality. I've bent many a swiss tool under hard use. BuI I will say, the Victorinox can opener, and saw are better.

my victorinox swiss tool x has an awl. the awl is super important and under-rated imo. drilling holes is very important for long term survival / bushcraft. it works great for drilling holes in leather / hide or wood. it has all the necessary woodworking / bushcraft tools. i don't know of a leatherman that has an awl, file, saw, scissors, chisel, etc all together in the same multitool. i had a leatherman supertool 300 before the victorinox, and i think the victorinox is a much better quality tool that seems more durable. but the supertool 300 was also a good quality tool that i liked.

I have a wave+ and it's pretty good, but I've used it maybe 5 times. It's more of an emergency or catch-all tool. I leave it in my backpack, feeling better it's there, just like the first aid kit. It even has a knife in case I've forgotten that somehow too! What I don't like is how it destroys my fingernails opening some of the tools...

Nice test, fun watching. If I had to choose between multi tools only then I would choose Spirit. It’s smaller than Swiss tool and has all tools available on sides without opening pliers like Swiss tool. Lighter than all Charges models and Swiss tool. Steel is nice in Leatherman but it’s anyway a small blade. Leatherman has some quality issues. My Charge plus has a bit loose hook blade in locked position. All Leatherman Charge models have issue with closing pliers. If you don’t do it synchronously enough there is a small pin that positions pliers in folded state that bends if you not pay attention. It’s funny because it was intended to keep pliers folded down evenly I think. To this day all Charge and Wave model have this. Like Leatherman believes in design holiness but it needs changes for a long time already.

SURGE . I have two of them since 10 years or so (the second because I thought I lost it..). Black "but" I strongly "sanded"/rounded the otherwise too unconfi edges. - with a small variety of extra, ("Bosch") cheep but quality saw blades (even too long to fold), and extra variety of screw-bits. (Love the ale, with its hole, The ultra-fine & stong tip of the plyers, two (...) blades that are easy to open single handed, etc.). Important to me : Without any holster that's how it (finaly) ends up being truly edc for me ( I grew up + with Victorinox)

Excellent video, thanks! Due to legal regulations in my country a one-handed opening mechanism for a blade is sadly no option for me. A Multitool is something I need to be able to carry on my belt every- and anytime. A few years ago I had to decide if I'd go with a Leatherman or a Victorinox. What I use most on a Multitool are the pliers, the wirecutters, the screwdrivers, the file and the saw. Sadly the Victorinox did not offer replaceable wire-cutters. Asides mentioned single Leatherman components were easily available back then, based on import from the US and A. They are still easily available via import from the US, have sadly become ridiculously expensive in the meantime due to shipping cost. Whatsoever ... back then I really wasn't happy with any solution the market offered, to be honest. My solution was building my own, individual Multitool from available components. What I did was buying a Leatherman Supertool 300 EOD and the tools to disassemble 300-series Leathermans (tools I ordered from Russia back in the days). Besides I ordered individual Supertool 300 components from the US, which were dirty cheap back in the days compared to the present situation. I disassembled my 300 EOD and put together my individual version based on 300 and 300 EOD components into one package. This was before Leatherman released the 300 M.

One thing about the victorinox that I hate is the cutters don't have replaceable cutters. Other than that I absolutely love it and use it daily.
@DaroriDerEinzige
@DaroriDerEinzige 10 ай бұрын
Well, you don't really have to replace them unless you reguarly cut nails with them. Copper Wire has basically no impact and even smaller Steel Wire isn't that big of an issue; if you work on fences on a daily basis, you probably wont do the "heavy lifting" with your multitool, would you? Multitools are rather like "Yeah, you can do that in a pinch - but there are actually tools for that, you know?". Like, if you broke down with your car or if you wanna open a can on your weekend trip or if you wanna slice open an apple in your lunch time in the field ...

It can be irritating with super steels... it's even more important that they're made/sharpened/heat-treated right than with more common blade steels. So if you get a company who sells a knife based on the fact that its a great steel, it can be deceptive. It often works good to go with a purchase that's received tried and true consistently-good reviews for a while. Would you rather have the best metal in the world, not heat treated, or have a less reliable steel that's perfectly heat treated?

With all respect, how did you manage to not extract that nail with the Leatherman, pusch it up wirh the insulation stripper, if you can't do it with the screwdriver or the pliers. Also, what in the world, did Leatherman do to that edge and the saw. I know, that the saw from the Leatherman is worse than the Victorinox, but holy cow did they screw up on that perticular tool. In general, the entire tool was extreamly stiff, I have the abilety to manipulate every tool on my Leathermans (Surge, Wave, Signal and Squirt PS4) with one hand. This includes the inner tools and the locking mechanisem.

The deal breaker with the Victorinox, for me, is that it is rivited together. Meaning it cannot easily be stripped down to replace a broken part. I was just about to buy a leatherman Wave, as I've had an original Wave for over 20 years without a problem, but fancied a change. Now I think I'll go with the Charge, after seeing this.

A scout knife and a pair of Boker 6" linesman pliers beats the shrunken balls off any multi tool. Less room in the pockets too. Don't need wire cutters? Trim the ends off some #426 channel locks.

G'day guys, not sure time is the best measure for these things. Anyway; better than nothing, but just reinforces my opinion; perhaps with the exception of beer bottle, maybe can, opening, multitools are about 20% performance and 80% marketing. Bit of fun all same and enjoyed the vid. Cheers Duke.

Hahah it should have been over for leatherman if mickey knew where the tools were and knew how to make a fire, opening a tin was in the criteria, (speaking from my personal experience) the leatherman bottle opener/tin opener gets crushed by the victorinox because they have two separate tools that actually do the job properly instead of that fusion tool.

Nice vid. No MagnaCut in here but it's fine. This time ;) So I have to say I also was dissapointed w/ the factory edge of my leatherman Charge tti+. Paid 182€ but No Deal breaker cuz I always give my knafs a custom edge, full convex in this case and recently, after watching all of Pete's and Gabe's dual grit vids here on you YT, guess what. the right hand side got a 220 dia grit, the other side a spyderco UF cera edge. Stropped with dbk compound. Probs. This Tool is everyday w/ me at jobsite and it's getting abused AF. Prying nails out of the wall with the plyers, sawing drywall, used it as a Hammer, deburring edges. But The most used Tool is the after market leatherman ratchet driver(35€), because then you can use ie Milwaukee's shockwave ¼" bits and not the flat shity bits that comes w/ it . What's funny about the tti is that you get spare parts on aliexpress, ie fancy M24 steel wire cutter replacement parts or even a holder for saws like in the "surge" and somewhere on eBay was a "better" cpm Version as a knife replacement if it's getting ground down after all the excessive resharpening, cuz S30V is 0 tough and not that much of an edge holder
