This is a shrunk Leatherman Supertool 300 and it is awesome. At 6.8 oz, it's one of the lightest MDMTs with this complete toolset. It does lack scissors (oh well) and the tools can't be accessed from the outside but the rest is all ACES. Quality is superb with precise grinds on the drivers, long shanks, replaceable 1545CM cutters on the precise pliers, and postive locks and detents on the tools. The 420HC steel clip blade is perfection for this style of MDMT. Since it's plain edged, you'll actually be able to sharpen it. An excellent file, saw, and can opener, and the very welcome punch awl also come along for the ride in the Leatherman Awl. This a pre-production sample but should be very representative of what you'll get. Value should be very high for the quality and longevity of this MT. I do prefer this blackened oxide version of what should be another Leatherman Classic favorite design./////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 10 out of 10

I think the can opener is a really good tool. It can really be helpful because without it, it can be very difficult to open a can and that is not a problem you want to have in the out of doors or ,in a situation where you need to open a can.

I've damaged the wire cutters on my multi-tool before; and whats nice about having removable wire cutters and a file is that in the field if you damage the wire cutters you can always remove them and file em back using the file.

The shortage of scissors is easily overcome with a Leatherman Micra or equivalent. For my money, I want the saw; and the can opener is actually quite useful when you find yourself saying "Damn, if only I had a wire stripper."

Nearly 90% the size of the ST300, but only 70% of the weight. Awesome tool! FWIW, scissors are a nonissue for me, as long as you have a sharp knife. It has the emergency sheepsfoot so even in 1st aid situations, scissors aren't needed.

Bhargav Sharma another great feature is that the ST300 & Rebar have the safest blades on Leatherman. The Lockback is strong, and also the handle design means a lock failure still cannot close on your hand.

Nutn - I've used the multitool can openers many times. I went on a slew of camp-outs and short hikes where I brought some canned food and EVERY TIME forgot to bring a can opener. It was like a running joke. "Hey, guess what I forgot..." As my hikes increase in duration and distance I don't bring any cans of food, but those openers have at least served their purpose in the past.

The first Leatherman I owned was back in the early 1980's, used it every day at work. Main use was to cut wire coat hangers because I was always rigging things up at my factory job. I got many years of use out of it untill it finally broke,... but I've never held that against it... I just wore it out. Great multi-tool. ^_^

I ordered the rebar over the weekend. I EDC a SOG flash tanto, it's awesome and light but realized it lacked subtlety. And yup, that video helped with my choice. Now I get to carry a great multitool, that I'll like 240% cover my needs and will also be very useful around the house but man will it look better than carrying a full sized knife lol.

I have had mine for a few months now still really like it! You were dead on about it being a great Hiking or Emergency multi-tool! I use it at work all the time, I think it has a really good feel to it and its simple classic design is what draws me to it. Sure the tools are not "Easily" accessible, it makes you take you time to decide what you really need to get to. Good review!

My favourite is still the swisstool spirit with standart blade (not the funky butter knife). All tools accessible from the outside, outstanding quality. Exchangable jaws would be nice, but not necessary. I think every MT should have a can opener. Nice thing on a victorinox is that it's combined with a screwdriver, so you don't loose any space anyway. People say they love letterman quality, but the fit and finish on those that my brother and me own is less than stellar...

Hey, scissors are handy from time to time for those small cutting tasks, but if it doesn't have a can opener, I have to carry my victorinox too. I frequently have to bail my wife out when the crank style can opener is just not getting it done. I open my Charge or Victorinox and in 30 seconds it's done. I prefer a manual can opener because it's a no-fail tool. I loooooove the toolset on the ST300 and Rebar. Everything I use and nothing on it I don't use. File, saw, drivers, pliers, can opener, awl, small measuring tape, and of course the blades. ST300 and Rebar are perfect for me.

"Good luck sharpening that..." Regarding the serrated blade, you can sharpen them! A Spyderco triangular ceramic sharpener works, but you are right about saving that blade. Over a decade of very heavy use and sharpening, I sharpened the serrations right off of the blade! Bought another Wave to replace it while I sent it back to the factory...I'll let you know how that went when I get it back. Thanks for your great reviews and channel.

Have a leatherman that's been with me for ages (old enough to not have it's model printed). A guesstimate would be 15 years now. And the can opener is well used, probably top three with the blade and the phillips driver. Both bottles (no twist-off-caps in Sweden) and cans. I would like a scissor too, but not at the expense of the can opener, that's for sure.

I carry the Leatherman Micra at ALL times. I usually have a Swiss Army Explorer in my pocket, but when I have dress slacks, or something like that, I only carry the Micra. The scissors on the Micra are far better than on most any of the bigger Leathermans, and I use scissors as much as I use my blade, and far more than the saw or an awl. If you like the Rebar, and I can see why anyone would, then get a Micra for the scissors.

Thanks for the review Nutn, looks like a great MT! FYI to all TNPrs, Leatherman's FB page is a good place to find out stuff like when this tool will be released. the mod of the page (Juli) is great about answering questions and giving out info like release dates & other interesting stuff. recommend it. also, this tool is the replacement for the soon to be retired Blast tool, so if you want the Blast get it quick before they're gone. This still looks awesome, though, may have to get both!

I love my Rebar. Everything I need, nothing I don't. Great for EDC. My ST-200 and my SOG (can't remember model#, but it's full-sized) are just a bit heavy for my tastes. I would most likely never use the scissors, but I love the fact is has replaceable wire cutters. I am not really concerned about the tools not opening from the outside, because for me, a rapid deployment isn't needed, as I carry a knife separately.

Mines coming in the mail. I got the cheaper one on bladehq, (There were two and one was two or three bucks more) but what I find weird is that the only thing I could come up with for the price difference was the case. One was leather and the other was the one you have. Legitimately, it was the same aside from the case. It's going to be a part of my EDC so I didn't see the need for the more expensive case.

@sharpknifesedge The "butterknife" blade is actually much better than I thought it would be. Insanely sharp, blade is a bit thicker than the standard Victorinox blade. It is chisel ground with serrations on most of the blade, but the inner 1/2 or so is plain edge, so if you need to whittle a notch it would work. I really haven't used the blade that much, but I like it better than the standard one on the full sized Swisstool (which I own also). The quality of both tools is a 10.

Nice job, and way to keep it (somewhat) brief. I hope they will make a 'Rebar S' with scissors instead of a saw or can opener, for those of us non-campers. Your videos sometimes tend to be long and rambling, but you've done a good job here keeping it to topics enthusiasts want to know about, but not going overboard. I hope this is the new nutnfancy! I see Leatherman even gave you a shout-out on facebook. BOOYAH!

If you want scissors keep the can opener (you never have one when you need it) and ditch the serrated blade. or both blades for that matter, I always use one of my EDC knives and never my Leatherman blades as they are too hard to deploy. (I have an old, old school super tool btw) if you need a blade a nice half serrated clip would be perfect
@AirForceAce3571

i thought the same thing but then I got a Leatherman S2 Juice for EDC (which has scissors) and I've found situations where scissors are better. for example cutting small, short excess threads on clothing (or "cables" as we used to call them in the AF). also for opening letters or cutting a piece of paper. often you can make do with a blade but I've actually found scissors to be nice to have for EDC. For survival or heavier use, i'd agree not so much needed & would prefer a saw though.

Surprisingly I have needed the can opener, and the corkscrew for my ladies wine. Who would have thought? So I would keep the cand opener on the rebar. I like the wider main blade as well. My Kick and Fuse are a little long for EDC in the pocket. It has to share the space witht the Byrd cara cara. Medium MT is the way to go.

Large enough that the tools are actually useful. Small enough at 6.7 oz that you can forget about it in the bottom of your back pocket. Tools on the inside makes for a smooth outer feel. I can still pop a blade out in about two seconds so not inconvenient.

Nice. Agree that they should have included scissors or at least an option to have scissors instead of the can opener. Would it be possible for them to include a military P-38 can opener that is removable similar to the toothpick / tweezers on a Victorinox? They weigh nothing and work great.
