A challenge was put out to do a one stick fire challenge in wet conditions.
The day I had to do the challenge was raining, but the woods were only wet, not soaked.
I decided to add another element to the challenge and do the entire fire using only my Leatherman Signal. This was a tough fire!

Out of all the fire starting videos i have seen with the leatherman signal you are the first one to say practice. It really does take time to get to know a tool and the last place on earth you want a crash course is where you need it most. Thank you for the video sir.

What a great lesson to people who might buy such a tool and think that they'll never need to practice!! Excellent!

+Will An That was one of the reasons I made the video. If you buy a Signal you should just but a spare ferro rod and plan on using it up.

Carry some cotton balls or dryer lint. Those materials will light well with a ferro rod.

With a ferro rod that small I’d be hunting down some fatwood or using the back of the saw to scrape up some super fine tinder

Well done Mike, glad you stuck with it.....remember guys... it's all about the tinder...ferro rods like very fine material to grab onto...like anything...practice, practice, practice...especially in crappy weather..

I love my signal. I added a small cylinder pill container with an emergency Black Beard waterproof tender. You can cut it in half for two emergency fires. Works great.

You can actually crack open the worn down whistle/ferro rod and use the underside of it. You can also snap it back together and the whistle will still work. Great video btw!!

I subscribed because of this video. I like how you documented all of the facts, the challenges, the resources & overcame your self-imposed handicaps for the win! Excellent. A very balanced presentation...ok...I also had to support another SIG fan 😏 I love the SIG Legion series, especially the 220 in .45 & 226 in .356 SIG 🤗 I consider firearms essential self-reliance items as well 🇺🇸

Nice work brother, hey by the way sometimes scrapping the wood with the back of the saw helps to make some nice fine wood powder if you know what I mean, easier to light up and then use the feathers to catch the flame. Good job mate

You get an "A" for effort. With that small fero rod, a piece of Fatwood would sure look good. I wonder how many strikes you get from that fero rod?

Nice one mate. Looks a good tool but down here in Oz it's around $220 or so Australian dollars. Could find it cheaper with a bit more looking but it's not something I really need :) When you said Hemlock I thought of "Me Grimlock" from the Transformers and started making the transforming sound Hahahaha. Anyway take care. Craig

I'm assuming you've taken enough abuse for this video. This is quite an old vid so I assume you've been told all about fatwood and picking the right material. If it doesn't ignite right away, something is wrong.

Great video and show of determination to get the task done. Just a thought while watching. DO you think it would have helped if you had made a small pile of saw dust? 'or would that have been just a waste of time?
