I review the Leatt MTB 4.0 enduro helmet. This is a downhill rated full face helmet from Leatt that has a removable chin guard to transform into an open face helmet.

Cool video, loved the deadpan kiwi humour haha! Being a kiwi myself lol.. I'm looking at a Leatt DBX 4.0 for a good price and seeing what peeps say on KZfaq beyond the good reviews ive read online.. I'm getting back into MTB for the first time in 10 years, after 8 years in Melbourne. & have an upgraded 2014 Kona Entourage with Fox 40s on the front, & Fox RC4 rear, even though it's actually an agressive enduro bike, not a factory downhill bike.. Bought 2nd hand of course, still running 26inch so it's oldschool but it's heaps of fun, will definitely upgrade to a 27.5 or 29 enduro soon though.. I just upgraded the brakes to Magura MT5s & they're amazing! Cant recommend them enough .. But anyway i dont know many peeps that mtb to shuttle & i don't wanna pay for the chairlift up, so i have to bus the bike halfway up the hills (Christchurch) & ride & walk my downhill bike up to the top to ride down. Not ideal haha but if i dial the suspension right down i can sort of do it, & it's a shorter travel DH bike with 180 instead of 200 travel, so it's not quite as saggy, so i can sort of bike uphill haha.. So anyway, im going to do a fair bit of downhill but i have to get uphill first.. From what ive read the DBX 4.0 Gravity has enough ventilation & is light enough that it's ok even without a removeable chin bar. It's kind of like the Fox Pro Frame but built better from what ive read. It's basically aimed at Enduro riders who also ride downhill.. From everything ive seen Leatt makes alot of really good stuff that's functional & looks cool. Cool also that it comes from South Africa instead of being another big American brand.. will check out your other videos.. Chur :)

Nice review, I'm not sold on removable chin bar to much faff, but good point about travel. Maybe good option when replace Fox Proframe.
@bestdayevermtb23 жыл бұрын
For many people the removable chin guard just won't be of benefit. For me it is great. I am going skiing next month and will take the helmet with me as we plan to ride one day. It packs into a bag so much easier in 2 pieces.

Good review. I’ve gone for the TLD Stage helmet as a full-face and will keep the open face too. Will just decide what I’m riding that day and take the most appropriate I tired a convertible (Met Parachute) but couldn’t get the fit right. Looks a good helmet to though
@bestdayevermtb23 жыл бұрын
I think that is the important bit fit. I tried other options before the Leatt but the fit was not right for me. The reality is our heads are often quite different shapes.

Nice review. I've just watched another review of the helmet and was a little concerned regarding the lack of padding on the rear but as you have explained once the helmet is on and and adjusted it pulls your head away from the rear. Iam looking for body armour. Is there any particular brand you would recommend. I've just recently broken my collar bone and need some to sweeten the wife with.

I am glad you found the review helpful. Don't wear body armour other than knee and elbow pads so not much help there.

hey mate, may I ask how's the helmet holding up after riding with it for a while now? Does it still do a good job at protecting you? I am considering one but even in spite of the DH certification I am a bit worried the chin bar will just snap off during a bigger crash at the bikepark jumps for example, and I'll break my face. Thanks!
@bestdayevermtb2 Жыл бұрын
I am really pleased with it. Back in February I landed on my head and was really worried I had broken my neck, but the helmet was fine. I have made a video of the new Enduro 3.0 which gets launched on the 13th June. This is a seriously cool helmet, and you should wait for the release of it. They are also doing a 20% discount through my video.

I will always be buying a proper full face because there's really no place to keep such a large chin guard in the backpack. Also, can you wear this helmet with the chin guard on already?
@bestdayevermtb23 жыл бұрын
Certainly the traditional full face will still suit a lot of people. I like to ride overseas and taking one helmet that serves two jobs is a big plus. As for back packs the chin guard fits perfectly on the outside as shown in the video. I will admit it is not as easy if you go full enduro and don't use a back pack but it can be done. Thanks for the feedback.

@bestdayevermtb22 ай бұрын
Ok just checked my head. 58cm. I have a large but the dial at the back is fully wound in. I would wind in more if I could. Based on that you probably are a medium. I must admit I hate buying shoes and helmets without trying on. I now have the latest version of this helmet. I did a video also on that one. To be honest I like the new one more. That is a large and fits perfect for me. Hope that helps.
