That man saying he’s pro life because he’s has GFs who weren’t happy with the experience of getting an abortion is annoyingly ironic. You know what is horrible and not a fun experience? Pregnancy and giving birth!!! It can be so incredibly traumatizing and and takes a long time to heal from mentally. I was never so depressed as after having a baby. Not to scare anyone who wants a child, because it was absolutely worth it and there were nice things about being pregnant. But that’s part of my point, just because it’s an uncomfortable or not great experience, doesn’t mean it’s not worth it. Both abortions or having a baby are great choices if it’s the right choice FOR YOU!

That is so true! I think even a lot of lefties still jump through these hoops that conservatives put up for us women by saying "no woman makes the decision to have an abortion easily". It's really not that hard for some people, super difficult for others! I personally would genuinely rather die than give birth, under any circumstances. It's my body. It's personal and its nobody else's business why I feel that way! You're so right, it's like any medical decisions, sometimes it's simple and sometimes it's complicated, but in every case, it's nobody else's business! ❤

Speaking as a carpenter, who was listening to you two, whilst hanging some doors, in someone else’s home, I’d just like to say that you made the right call with that tradesman who creeped you out, as you really can’t be too careful. Even though I am glad to say that the general atmosphere at work has improved considerably over the years, with far less racism, sexism and homophobia in evidence, you do still get the odd dodgy character on site. On a lighter note, the algorithm must be on form today, as, no sooner had you told that story, an ad immediately came on for Trust a Trader…

I have two littermates who have been together since birth, having two was the best thing I did for myself and them. They learn from each other, things that we can’t teach them and they aren’t as lonely. Me and my girlies are closely bonded, we have cuddled since day one and since then, we are inseparable. As Jackson Galaxy says, two are better than one! 🥰✨

The tradesman story was so relatable and gross. I had a guy come round once to fix our intercom and he was flirty but I was working from home so just returned to my room and let him get on with the job. He came into my bedroom to say he was finished so I walked him straight out again, to see he hadn’t fixed the intercom. I had a bad vibe and asked him to leave at which point he started relentlessly banging on the door as I tried to close it demanding to kiss me. I called the letting agent crying when I’d double locked the door and similarly to Jordan’s story was grossly patronised and not believed. He eventually went downstairs and got locked out the building but wouldn’t drive away for over half an hour. Turns out he wasn’t even the person that was supposed to be sent by the agents to help me that day, and because the agent used different contractors they had no way of finding out who it was. Literally could’ve been a random person with bad intentions and a fake uniform.

Not saying Breadtube fell off in recent time, but I am glad the ideas that sphere of creators promoted are becoming more commonplace in “regular” commentary content where both creators and audiences seem to be on a level of understanding that definitely wasn’t there in pre-pandemic YT progressive/leftist content. Prior, it took a lot of will to say stuff that would have previously been seen as “poking the bear” of sorts. Losing subs, getting labeled as “woke” and the like was a scary thing to creators in the mid-2010s, but I do think the work Breadtube did has made it so these things aren’t sweated anymore as audiences seem to acknowledge these things outright instead of having to come to terms with them over the course of a video’s argument. I know this is still a small sample size: progressive people who not only gravitate to this content and have an algorithm catered to serving it to them but also being online in general - either way it’s cool to see most move away from the label and still have cool audiences for the most part. Always loved yours’ and Tara’s early work and while I don’t actively watch the content of other creators I viewed heavily during the early pandemic when we were all feeling angst and unrest, I am glad I watched them where I did to get to the political reasoning I have now. Thank you guys for your work and even though it’s not political praxis, it was appreciated by me and many others I’m sure. Fantastic episode!

So as it relates to cameras stopping recording, the reason is actually cause flash memory cards cant record files bigger than like 4go, which is basically 30min. But a workaround is downloading magic lantern and using its addon features on the canon, such as the option to automatically restart recording immediately

34:21 the hot feet thing is actually normal! can't say anythhing about their specific circumstances, but : "As the body prepares for sleep, it lowers core body temperature by increasing blood flow to the hands and feet. This process, known as distal vasodilation, can make your feet feel hot at night. The increased peripheral blood flow to the feet and hands typically helps you fall asleep faster.” (excerpt from first google result)

i also LOVED s1 of white lotus more, because i thought it went into family & friend dynamics, classism, colonialism/racism, and the interconnectedness of all of these; s2 focused more patriarchy/misogyny/love relationships, which felt more narrow in its focus and not necessarily more insightful. glad to see someone else thinks the same!

Totally relate to the point about Breadtube, I have my own channel where I talk about movies with someone else and I don't touch on politics whatsoever, unless it's literally unavoidable because a lot of movies are just political. But I don't want to make political videos, I want to make videos hat focus on movies and movies alone. I've not forgotten what happened to Lindsay Ellis, she was not a political KZfaqr, she talked about movies, theatre and literature, but because she expressed her personal views on social media she got lumped in with the Breadtubers, and as a result she had an army of people who hated her because of her personal politics and they deliberately contributed to the reason she was 'cancelled' and infiltrated left-wing spaces pretending to be angry at her for 'being racist' when she was never even close to being racist.
@btarczy5067
@btarczy5067 7 ай бұрын
Sometimes we can’t really choose whether something is political. When Lindsay Ellis started out just her being a woman in a field dominated by men was perceived as political. She didn’t need to express any further political beliefs than the one that she could make video essays about movies. Now, I do think that she wasn’t shy about her progressive values so she attracted a left wing audience which comes with its own toxicity and purity-testing that culminated in her being cancelled. When even one’s existence can be political there is no getting around politics completely in the public sphere. One can decide whether or not to engage with it but it will be there in the audience no matter what.

@@btarczy5067 Well it could also be cultural. In my country, a woman doing something isn't as political as it appears to be in the US. When growing up I don't ever remember people around me getting angry at a female character in a videogame or a non-white character. Now as an adult I see people utterly raging about it, like it's the worst thing in the world. I just can't help but look around and think to myself 'what on Earth happened?' But then Lindsay Ellis also rose to fame during the apex of online misogyny, and now a woman reviewing movies is a pretty normal thing to happen, so the anti-feminists rebranded a little and just drafted in women with Conservative views to be the movie or game reviewers instead. I think a lot of the current climate is driven by culture war politics which dominates most discussions. For example, I grew up in a Conservative area, I had a lot of friends whose parents voted Conservative, and many of them do now. But we never ever discussed politics growing up, not even through our twenties really either. Then, after returning home after Covid lockdowns, I find that all of the sudden these same friends are bringing up politics all the time, and talking about their favourite political podcasters. I do think a part of it is a trend thing too. That's what drives engagement, the anger and resentment gets more clicks, 'ragebait' they call it. I have to be honest, I am a very political person, but I like my escapes too, I don't want to bury my head in the sand, I am engaging with politics on a personal level, but when it comes to my channel I just want people to discuss and appreciate our shared love of film and not drag it back to 'is it good representation or bad representation' or 'is it too woke!!!' These may be the elephant in the room at times, but that doesn't mean they have to be the focus for every single critical perspective on film. I feel really sorry for the likes of Halle Bailey, for example, who is a jobbing performer, who tried her best to play Ariel in the Little Mermaid film, but the only focus in the media was on her race. Not her ability as a singer or an actress, on the lottery of her birth. That is encouraged not just by the 'alt-right' or whatever they call themselves now, but on anyone who approaches a film purely through a political lens. Halle Bailey has the right to be assessed on her abilities, not on being a political tool, as do other performers who are hired for being good at their job but only assessed on what they represent in the culture war.

Wow. Seeing your friends a few times a week is actually pretty frequent to be honest. I think there's a real lack of close friendships these days, but ALSO a lack of casual friends too! People just don't seem to want to meet up and do stuff anymore. And even more ridiculously, they won't message or call much anymore. I know people are busy. But I do wonder if there's a cultural issue going on here. I think people are missing out on the day to day mundanity of friendships. School is the perfect example. We used to spend all day with our friends. Now we spend all day at work, but also usually not being friends with people at work in the same way because of how competitive it is. Think back to a time when you could call up a friend and just go shopping for random bits of clothing at Primark at the drop of a hat. I'm in my early 30s. My friends have all paired off but they don't even have kids yet. And we STILL have to make plans weeks or even months in advance. It's ridiculous.

As a note on changing directions away from political content, and by no means do I want to pressure you in either direction! But your podcast where you cried talking about (in-se ll) tear-or-ism, Im sure it attracted a lot of angry bs or got you a lot of hate. But even if you never do a purely political thing on your channel or podcast again, I hope you understand how listening to that was pretty much life changing for me to listen to and I'm sure it was the same for a lot of others! It is so exhausting being a woman and having to fear violence for rejecting someone romantically, feeling gaslit by the world how we coddle nem so much that even mass killers get the same treatment as a child needing a band aid or something. I live in a city where there was a mass killing from an in - sell, and he was interviewed on the news like he was just some quirky special interest guy. The culture here is completely backwards and concerned with his well being. I'm not great with articulating so I hope it comes across but I am so so so grateful to be validated like that and feel seen! Also, everything is political! Whether the mansplainers call it political or not, even blueberry milk nails is discussing culture and the way we as people look at things! So it's all important, even if it's a topic that isn't super controversial :) It's always best to put your own mental health and happiness first, I just hope you know how appreciated the other stuff was and that will always be the case!
