Hey guys welcome back to my channel in todays video I will be discussing my experience working retail pharmacy vs hospital pharmacy, also explaining why I left retail pharmacy. I did mentioned work duties for retail and hospital and why I think going to college for Pharmacy is the best decision I made! I hope this video is very helpful! i’ve been at walmart 4.5 years now. same as you started as a cashier and moved up to a certified technician. it’s getting soo stressful! too many problems to list them all but management and scheduling are the two biggest issues for me. i wanna get into a hospital asap

That’s amazing! Love to hear about techies growth! 😀 it’s crazy because I was going to stay working retail if they made me lead tech but they didn’t, so that’s why I left to hospital. But girly apply everywhere even if it states things you don’t have experience doing!

I've worked at cvs for 4 years now and I have an interview at the local hospital pharmacy. They offered to let me shadow for a day! Super nervous but looking at some of your videos has really help me relax.

YAY!! That's great, make sure you ask a lot of questions and try to get involved so they can see you're very interested. Have a couple laughs you want them to not only see your qualifications but see that you're professional, cool person that would fit in with the team! Hehehe good luck girly!

thank you for sharing these videos!! ive worked at cvs for 1 year, and got my PTCB certification in may. cvs gave me so many false promises that it really pushed me to go. currently just had an interview with our local hospital and hoping i get the Med Rec tech job there!!

I work for Walmart currently as a pharmacy technician. It’s soooo busy at my Walmart I’ve been a tech for almost 4 years now. I really like it. I have always had the thought of being a hospital pharmacy tech in the back of my mind lol but I think my issue is that I’m comfortable where I’m at lol

I wanna work for a hospital but their requires you to have at least a year of experience or be certified. Im studying for the test while working for a CMOP corp. No bad, the pay is good... well seeeeee Thanks for sharing ur experience baby xoxo!

Heeeey drica. I've been binge watching your vids 😆😆 . I've been working at Walgreens for about 7 years and I'm thinking about a new change. I feel like I forgot all the info from the book about hospital pharmacy and since we don't deal with IVs , I'm not familiar. I may have to Crack open that pharmacy book again to relearn. Because I want to be prepared if I do decide to go hospital or another route.

Hiiiiii 😀😄 omg you’re so sweet! Thank you for supporting my channel, so when I applied to work hospital I did the same thing and read through my pharmacy tech book. I read about IVs and how many itches do you have to be inside the hood lol. Also I highly recommend making sure you know how to solve for mLs

Hi, found your videos today! Very informative, thank you! I am looking into starting school for pharmacy tech. Is it better to attend a two year college or would I get the same info by going to school and doing the shorter program. I believe I saw one that lasts a couple of months. Is there a difference between what you learn at one over the other? Or is there a pay differential?

Thank you for the video. I am a licensed Pharmacy Technician, not certified yet. I have just started a retail job however I do have a good chance to get into a hospital, I am in interview process now. I have always thought I would prefer to work in a hospital. Now if offered the job I am scared to take the leap.

Love your video! What is the difference between going to a 4 year pharmacy school vs becoming a certified pharm tech?

Thank you☺️😄 so going to a 4 year pharmacy school is for you to get your Pharm D, and become a pharmacist. In order to do that you have to do two year prerequisites first. For certified pharmacy technician you just have go through a program and take the PTCB exam also have a certain amount of worked hours in a pharmacy. PTCB.org😊😉

alex99fever hey hey! I can definitely try it’s just hard because most of the medications I make are done in a hood. Yup so we get random labels pop out all throughout the day with a time the nurse will give to the patient. So if a medication prints out and is due right away we go and make it then deliver or if it’s due in a couple hours we put the label to the side till it’s closer to the time it’s due.

So do I apply apply for a license as a retail tech if I just started working ? Or do I have to wait. Until I am trained , take the past the exam (certificate) and the register for a license? So confused. Thank you 🙏

I started at cvs as an extern then got into Albertsons then went back to CVS just interviewed with my local county hospital and the job super happy yet nervous 😬

Hello, Love your videos as well and have learned so much. I'm a bit nervous because I am stepping into a new career but have a question for you. So, I just enrolled at Penn foster in becoming a certified technician. I just recently got a Job at CVS and plan in staying until I finish my courses and pass my exam. My question is do most hospitals require experience over PTCB or more so just experience working in a pharmacy? In my state, it's not required for you to have a licenses before getting the Job.

Hii, so the starting pay is always different per person and experience. I can say when I worked retail I was making around $12 then got certified my pay went up to $16 😀 there is a huge pay increase depending on where you work at

Hey hey, so I went through a tech program at my local community college walmart did'nt have a program at the time I was studying. To save some money I would apply to a retail pharmacy and have them pay for you to get certified, you would work and study at the same time and I believe they pay for you to take the PTCB Exam once, if you fail you have to pay to retake. :D

😊hey hey!! Aww thank you so happy you enjoyed it. Ooh yes, I think volunteering in the hospital is a great idea. I would say 3-4 or 5 hours per day, but I know some jobs will tell you what they require per day and week. Overall volunteering is amazing for your resume, even when you do interviews they’ll love to hear that and also gives you a great chance of getting hired 😀

Is it a good idea to work at a pharmacy while going to a pharmacy school at the same time or does some people go to the school first and then look for a pharmacy technician job?

Hey hey! So when I went to school I worked full time at Walmart pharmacy and it was a huge struggle😬 I would say it’s a good idea because you can have that experience and learn a lot while in school. I would go as part time just because of the work overload and especially if you aren’t living home with your parents lol and have to pay bills! 😭 but definitely do what’s best for you and what you can handle 💛

She went straight to the hospital after completing the program. She actually had clinical rotations with the hospital and they hired her full time once she finished school.

Hi. Love your videos, it’s very informative. I didn’t go to pharmacy school but I’m a licensed tech and PTCB certified interested getting into hospital pharmacy. Every hospital pharmacy job post would require experience in IVs, which I dont. I’m not sure what to do, is it better for me to go to pharmacy school?

That’s great!! Yea still apply, especially since you’re a certified technician. I wouldn’t go back to school because schooling is basically going to prep you for the PTCB Exam and you already took it. Also if your could get a recommendation letter 😀

🤩🤩🤩🥳🥳Congratulations!!!! You can apply on ptcb.com but every state is different. Does your state require you to go through a program or equivalent work experience?

Oh great yes that is correct! I had printed out the application to get your certified license because your pharmacist has to sign it and get it notarized

Drinkk Bleach hey hey, so a lot of hospitals hire pharmacy Technicians that are only state licensed. Then some hospitals will hire a tech if they been through a Tech program. It really just depends on the hospital policy and manager. 😊

Hey hey, so some hospitals don’t require you to be a certified pharmacy technician whereas others would like you to be. I pushed myself to become nationally certified so I have a better chance of getting in also better pay☺️.

If you aren't nationally certified (most hospitals require PTCB over ExCPT), there will be limits on what you are allowed to do in the pharmacy. Certified techs can handle all tech tasks and roles, whereas licensed techs or tech trainees are able to stock only noncontrolled drugs in Omnicells and can't compound IVs. We have two working with us now, and they are a great help except for the times they are scheduled together on shifts that include a narcotics restock. Those days, one of us has to be pulled out of our role to make those deliveries, which in my case means leaving the ED for an extra hour and completing 2 fewer med recs. Go for national certification as soon as you can so you can work at the top of your license.

Alyssa Gates I’m either working 7am-3:30pm or 6:30am-3pm I really got lucky with my schedule 🤗 once in a while I work 3-11 or 10-6:30

Pharmacology what's the secret to memorization?

So instead of tying to learn pharmacology on a drug-by-drug basis, learn the subject on a class-by-class basis. Learning by class means you only need to learn one mechanism, one set of indications, one set of side effects and one set of drug interactions. Also I used Quizlet!

sud cute hey, I had a rough time with math too but just remembering the formulas definitely help and doing practice problems. My exam didn’t have much math questions 🙌🏾😄 the pay isn’t to bad I just don’t agree with non certified and certified technicians making the same amount 🤦🏽‍♀️
